Excel to MARC

  • In your existing library, you may have the

library records in an Excel spreadsheet

  • Now your library is migrated to the

Koha Library Management System

  • Koha does not support Excel files
  • Records must be converted from Excel into MARC format
In your existing library, you may have the records in an Excel spreadsheet.

Now your library is migrated to the Koha Library Management System.

Please note, Koha does not support Excel files.

So all the records must be converted from Excel into MARC format.

Narration only To convert Excel data into MARC format we will be using MarcEdit software.
Open Firefox web browserType

Highlight the link in the search tab

To download the software, let's open the Firefox web browser.

In the address bar, type this url and press the Enter key.

Cursor on Downloads Downloads page opens.
Under Current Development >> MarcEdit 7.0.x/MacOS 3.5.x >>

click on Windows Build Options

Pop window Windows 7.7 Installation Options

Under Current Development,

go to MarcEdit 7.7.x/MacOS 3.5. x.

Click on Windows Build Options.

A pop Windows 7.7 Installation Options opens.

  • User Only Installation (Self Contained)

Download MarcEdit 7.7 (All Users) and

  • Consolidated Installation

Download MarcEdit 7.7 (Consolidated Build)

Scroll down we can see two sections:
  • User Only Installation Self Contained Download MarcEdit 7.7 All Users and
  • Consolidated Installation Download MarcEdit 7.7 Consolidated Build

Click on Firefox toolbar Downloads icon

As my machine is 64-bit, I will click on Download MarcEdit 7.7 All Users.

To check the download process, click on the Firefox toolbar Downloads icon.

Here we can see the file download process has Completed.
