This tutorial is an introduction to Aakash Business Tool, ABT for short.

We will also see

  • some applications & features of ABT

And learn how to install Aakash Business Tool on an Aakash tablet.

System Requirements

To record this tutorial, I am using
  • ABT version 1.0
  • Aakash Tablet with Android version 4.2 i.e Jelly Bean and


You can use any rooted tablet of your choice.

To install ABT on your tablet, you will require

  • a working Internet connection and
  • 400MB of free space on internal/external SD-card

Prerequisites

To learn ABT, you must be familiar with the concepts of book keeping.

What is ABT?

What is ABT?
  • ABT is an accounting tool, which runs on Android.
  • It is intended for accountants and accounts-students.
  • It is Free and Open Source Software, licensed under GNU GPL version 3.

Who can use ABT?

It can be used by an NGO as well as a Profit making organization.
Features of ABT

Now let us look at some of the features of ABT.

The first feature is Maintaining Organizations and User authentication and role.

Now let's learn how to install ABT on a Aakash tablet.
Settings -> WiFi -> Advance Options If you work behind a proxy server, please ensure to bypass localhost in proxy settings.
Go to Settings -> WiFi -> Advance Options You can find the option under,

Settings -> WiFi -> Advanced Options Fill the details.

Add an entry of 127.0.0.1 to bypass localhost.

You can skip this step for direct Internet connection.

Point to web browser Open the browser on your tablet and visit this link:

http://aakashlabs.org/ac/iitb/

Search for Aakash Business Tool & tap on Download.


Point to sdcard location

Once Downloaded, install the apk file.


Point to ABT application

Open ABT application.

Point to the prompt It will prompt that,

File system does not exist! Do you want to download and install?

Tap on Yes.

Point to progress bar This will download abt.tar.gz file in your internal memory.
Point to extraction After downloading the file, it will automatically extract abt.tar.gz.


Point to the prompt

After extraction, it will again prompt that the, File system is not mounted, device requires a reboot

Please Reboot the tablet.

This was the recommended method of installation.

Manual Installation

Point to web browser

Now, we will learn how to install ABT manually.

For that,

Open web browser and download apk from this link, http://aakashlabs.org/ac/iitb/

We will manually download abt.tar.gz file from this link,

http://www.it.iitb.ac.in/Aakash/Apps/repo/abt.tar.gz

If you are unable to download the file on the tablet,

please download it on your desktop.

Point to sdcard

Copy the file to /mnt/sdcard of the tablet.

Install apk.

Open ABT application.

Point to extraction

It will start the extraction of abt.tar.gz file.


Point to the prompt After extraction it will again prompt that the,

File system is not mounted, device requires a reboot

Now Reboot the tablet.

Note: Incase there is not enough space in internal memory,

  • Extract abt.tar.gz file on your desktop &
  • Copy abt.img file to your external SD card.


Point to ABT application

Tap on ABT application.

We have successfully installed Aakash Business Tool.

You can see the information about ABT.

Now ABT is ready to use.
