This tutorial will give you an introduction to ABT.

We will also see

  • some applications of ABT and
  • some features of ABT.

And learn how to install ABT on an Android tablet.

System Requirements

To record this tutorial, I am using
  • ABT 1.0
  • Android 4.2 and
  • Aakash Tablet

You can use any Rooted Tablet of your choice.

To install ABT on your tablet, you will require

  • a working Internet connection and
  • 300MB of free space on internal/external SD-card

Prerequisites

To learn ABT, you must be familiar with the principles of book keeping.

What is ABT?

What is ABT?
  • ABT is a portable accounting tool, which runs on Android.
  • It is intended for accountants and accounts-students.
  • It is free and open source software, licensed under GNU GPL v3.

Who can use ABT?

It can be used by an NGO as well as by a Profit making organization.
Features of ABT

Let us look at some of the features of ABT.
  • Manage Organizations and User authentication

So, these are glimpses of what you will learn through the ABT series of Spoken Tutorials.
Now let's learn how to install ABT on a tablet PC.
Settings -> WiFi -> Advance Options If you work behind a proxy server, then ensure that you bypass proxy server settings.
Go to Settings -> WiFi -> Advance Options To do so, go to

Settings -> WiFi -> Advance Options

Also, add an addition entry of 127.0.0.1 to bypass localhost.

Skip this step for direct Internet connection.

Point to web browser Open the browser on your tablet and visit this link:

http://www.aakashlabs.org/ac/projects/

Search for Aakash Business Tool.

Tap on Download button.

When prompted install the apk.i.e. Android application package file.

Point to ABT icon Tap on ABT icon from the list of applications installed on the device.

Allow it to download the image file.

Download and extraction Downloading and extraction process will take some time, depending on your internet speed.
Point to reboot option After downloading and extracting, reboot your device.
Point to ABT application ABT application is now ready for use.
Manual Installation

Point to web browser

Visit http://www.aakashlabs.org/ac/projects from your web browser.

Search for Aakash Business Tool and tap on Download to download the APK.

Download a compressed image file from

http://www.it.iitb.ac.in/AakashApps/repo/abt.tar.gz

Point to extracted image file Extract image file.

Image file name will be abt.img.

Point to sd card Copy abt.img and ABT.apk to sdcard(internal or external) of

'your tablet.

Using a file browser, install ABT by clicking on ABT.apk file.

When prompted, say Yes.

Point to reboot option Reboot the device
Point to ABT application ABT application is now ready for use.
In the subsequent tutorials of ABT series, we will learn how to use ABT for accounting purposes.
