Koha homepage

From top menu click on Search catalog

Let us now place hold on an item through the staff interface.

From the top menu, locate the Search catalog option and click on it.

Search item in search bar as:

keywords title, author, ISBN, or barcode.


By using the Search catalog bar you can find the item to place the hold on.

Here, we can search for an item by using keywords, title, author, ISBN, or barcode.

Type Microbiology and click on search In the Search catalog bar I will type, Microbiology and press Enter.
Cursor on Search Results A Search results page opens.
Cursor on Result In this page a list of items related to Microbiology appear.
Cursor on Industrial Microbiology Patel, Arvind H. Locate the item Industrial Microbiology by Patel, Arvind H. and click on it.

Click on the Search

So, here we will type the patron name as Myo.

Click on the Search button at the right side of the field.

It may take some time to search.

Scroll down, we can also see two sections:
  • Hold next available item to reserve the first copy that becomes available and
  • Hold a specific item to reserve one exact copy (by barcode), not just any available one.

Click the radio button adjacent to Hold a specific item

Click the radio button under the Hold column

From Allowed pickup locations drop down select Spoken Tutorial Library

Click on Place hold

So click the radio button adjacent to Hold a specific item.

Now click the radio button under the Hold column.

For the Allowed pickup locations,

from the drop down select Spoken Tutorial Library if not selected by default.

Click on the Place hold button at the bottom of the page.

On the same Holds page, the Existing holds appear with a table.

Here we can see the item is placed on hold for the patron Miss Thinzar Myo.

A hold can be canceled by deleting it.

To do so, under the Delete column click on the trash bin icon.


It will open a Confirm deletion window.

Here it's confirming that Are you sure you want to cancel this hold?


If you want to cancel the hold then click on the Confirm cancellation.

If not then click on the Cancel button.

Cursor on Holds(1) At the left side of the page we can also see the number of Holds on this item.
