Time Narration
00:00 Welcome to this spoken tutorial on Nutritious powder recipes for 6 to 24 months old children.
00:08 In this tutorial, we will learn various recipes of nutritious powders such as-
00:15 Amylase powder,
00:17 powder of seeds,
00:18 powder of nuts and seeds,
00:20 powder of beans,
00:22 powder of curry leaves,
00:24 powder of drumstick leaves.
00:27 There are various nutritious powders which can be made at home without much effort.
00:33 Let’s learn how to make these nutritious powders.
00:38 These powders have nutrients which support the growth and development of infants.
00:44 It is recommended that these powders should be given to the baby when she completes 6 months of age.
00:52 Whenever a new food is introduced to a child, it should be given for 3 or 4 consecutive days.
01:00 After 3 or 4 days, introduce a new food to the child.
01:05 These two foods can be mixed but both foods should have been tried individually. And, the child should not have had any allergies like rashes or swelling on the face and the body.
01:20 Whenever a new food containing allergens such as nuts is introduced to a child, then start with the small portion such as tip of a teaspoon.
01:30 Wait for 10 minutes and then gradually feed it to the child.
01:35 Please, do not add sugar, salt or any kind of spices in the baby’s food till she is one year of age.
01:44 Now let’s begin with our first recipe- Amylase powder.
01:49 But, first let us discuss the benefits of it.
01:53 Amylase is an enzyme or chemical required for the digestion of food.
01:59 It is produced in limited amount in the baby’s body.
02:03 This powder provides additional amylase and increases nutrient content and absorption from the food.
02:12 Thus, amylase rich flour or amylase powder should be given to a baby.
02:18 Let’s learn the recipe for amylase powder.
02:22 Ingredients required for making amylase powder are- half cup of wheat,
02:27 half cup of green gram and
02:29 half cup of ragi.
02:32 Procedure: First, soak all the items separately in water for around 10 hours.
02:39 Soaking will improve the moisture content of ingredients.
02:42 After 10 hours, remove all the items.
02:46 Keep them in a strainer and let all the water drain out.
02:50 Then, one by one, tie all the ingredients in a clean and dry cotton cloth.
02:55 Keep them aside till they sprout.
02:58 This process is called germination.
03:01 Note that some items will take longer time and some will take shorter period of time for germination.
03:08 Here, Ragi will take longer time than other ingredients.
03:14 After germination dry them in the sunlight for a day or two.
03:19 After drying, roast all the items on a low flame till they completely dry off.
03:25 Remember, during roasting, continuous stirring is required.
03:30 Next, separate the outer cover of all items by rubbing between clean hands.
03:36 After removing the outer cover, mix all of the ingredients.
03:41 Now, make a powder of this mixture using the grinder.
03:45 And, the amylase powder is ready.
03:48 Store this amylase powder in an airtight container.
03:52 One can either add 1 teaspoon of amylase powder in baby’s food during cooking.
03:59 Or, one can also make a porridge of amylase powder.
04:03 1 teaspoon of amylase powder gives around 18 calories and 0.6 grams of protein.
04:10 100 grams of amylase powder gives around 360 calories and 12 grams of protein.
04:17 Amylase powder has some unique properties which makes it special for a baby.
04:23 It decreases the thickness of food and makes it more palatable for a baby.
04:28 It lowers the dietary bulk and increases the energy density of baby’s food.
04:34 Next, we will learn the recipe for powder of seeds.
04:38 This powder is rich in Zinc, fiber, Magnesium and Calcium.
04:44 These nutrients help in bone development and improves the strength of the baby.
04:50 Also, this powder is a source of good fat which supports brain development in children.
04:57 The 3 different seeds required to make this powder are- half cup of black sesame seeds,
05:03 half cup of flax seeds and
05:05 half cup of raw pumpkin seeds.
05:08 Procedure: One by one, dry roast all the seeds on a low flame for around 4 to 5 minutes.
05:16 Once cooled, make powder of all the roasted items.
05:20 Keep this powder in an airtight jar.
05:23 One teaspoon of this powder should be added in the baby’s food just before feeding.
05:29 It will provide around 30 calories and 2.7 grams of protein
