Ubuntu Linux 16.04 operating system and Firefox web browser

00:38 You can use any OS or web browser of your choice.
00:43 Spoken Tutorial Forums are used to post questions on a particular portion of a specific tutorial.
00:52 Any registered learner can ask doubts related to a particular FOSS course
00:59 Offline learners can refer to the Forum questions and answers to clear their doubts
01:06 I’ll open Firefox web browser and type spoken hyphen tutorial dot org
01:15 The Homepage of Spoken Tutorial website opens.
01:20 On the menu bar, locate Forums and click on it.
01:25 We are redirected to the Spoken Tutorial Forums webpage.
01:30 On the top part of the page is a slider, which displays all the software series in graphic form.
01:38 Just below the slider, is a prominent blue button named “View all previous questions”.
01:46 On the right of this button, we can see the total number of questions posted so far.
01:53 And the total number of answers posted till date.
01:58 Below this is the Recent questions section.
02:02 Here we can view the 10 most recently posted questions, arranged in chronological order.
02:10 At the top-right corner, we can see Search, Ask Question and Login links.
02:19 We will learn about these later in this tutorial.
02:23 Now, let’s click on View all previous questions button.
02:28 Immediately, we can view all the questions that have been posted in Forums, till date.
02:35 The entire sorting is in alphabetical order of FOSS name.
02:40 All questions with FOSS name starting with “A”, is displayed first.
02:46 So, we see Advanced C questions followed by Advanced C++ and so on.
02:54 20 questions are displayed at a time on the page.
02:59 To see more questions, we can use the page selector at the bottom of the list.

We are viewing these questions without any login.

03:12 To view the corresponding answers, simply click on the Title of the question, like this.
03:19 Now we can see all the answers posted by various users for this particular question.
03:26 Click the back button of the browser to come back to the previous page.
03:31 Note the various column headers.

These are clickable.

03:36 Now, let’s click on Tutorial and Title column heads, to see what happens.
03:44 Each time we see that the sorting changes to alphabetical order of that column.
03:51 Now let’s click on Min, Date, View and Answers columns.
04:01 The sorting changes to ascending or descending order of that particular column.
04:08 We can see how many answers have been given for a particular question, in the Answers column.
04:15 Views column specifies the number of views that a particular question has received.
04:22 User column displays the username who posted the question.
04:27 In the FOSS column, click on the magnifying glass icon

next to the FOSS name.

04:34 For example, I’ll click on the magnifying glass next to Moodle-Learning Management system.
04:41 It shows a list of all the tutorial names on which questions were posted, in alphabetical order.
04:49 Now, click on the magnifying glass icon next to any tutorial name.
04:55 I’ll click on Admin Dashboard.
04:58 All the questions posted for the tutorial Admin Dashboard are displayed.
05:04 The order of display is in ascending order of minutes and seconds.
05:10 This helps us to check all the questions that are posted under a particular FOSS and tutorial.
05:18 Now click on any question to read the full question and the answers posted.
05:25 To return back to the question list of that particular tutorial, click on the name of the tutorial.
05:33 Let me go back to the same page once again.
05:38 To return back to the question list of that particular FOSS, click on the name of the FOSS.
05:45 Let us go to the Homepage of Forums.
05:49 To do so, click on the logo and the text Spoken Tutorial Forums, at the top left.
05:57 Next we will see how to use the Search feature on Forums.
06:03 Click on the Search link at the top right of the page.
06:07 In the Search by Keyword tab, we see a textbox with a hint to type a FOSS name.
06:15 I’ll type Arduino and click on the Search button.
06:19 All the forum questions that contain the word Arduino get displayed.
06:25 Next, click on the Search by Time tab.
06:30 4 drop-down menus are displayed on the page.
06:35 In Select Category dropdown, we have to choose the FOSS.

I will select Scilab.

06:43 In Select Tutorial dropdown, choose the tutorial.

I will select “XCOS Introduction”

06:51 Then select the minutes and seconds range in the respective dropdown menus.

And click on the Search button.

07:00 If the selected minute and second has any questions, then they will be displayed.
07:06 This is how we can view questions and answers on Forums.
07:11 What should we do if we want to post a new question?
07:15 First of all, we have to be a registered user in Spoken Tutorial website to post a question.
07:23 Click on the Login link at the top right of the page.
07:28 If you are a registered user, type the username and password and click on the Login button.
07:35 If you are not a registered user, please read the information given under Rules and Regulations.

Then click on the Register button.

07:45 Register Yourself window appears.
07:49 Type in all the details as requested in the form.

And then click on the Register Me button at the bottom right of the window.

08:00 You will get a notification email in your registered email id.
08:06 Locate this mail in your Inbox, Spam or Junk folders.
08:12 Move it to your Inbox and click on the link given in this mail, to activate your account.
08:20 This is a self-authentication process.
08:24 Now, let’s come back to the Forums homepage.

And login with our registered username and password.

08:33 Next, we will see how to post a question.
08:37 Click on Ask Question link at the top right of the page.
08:42 Click on Select a Category dropdown.
08:45 Select the Foss in which you want to ask the question.

I’ll select Moodle-Learning Management system.

08:53 Next dropdown is to select which particular tutorial you want to post a question on.
09:00 So, I’ll click on Select a Tutorial dropdown and select Users in Moodle.
09:07 Next select the minute range at which we have a doubt in that tutorial.
09:12 We can also specify the exact seconds range from the tutorial.
09:17 For example, while watching the tutorial, I have a doubt in between 6-7 min and 20-30 secs.
09:28 Next, type a proper title for the question.
09:32 This will help other users to search for the same kind of related questions.
09:38 I’ll type ‘Create CSV file’ in the title textbox.
09:44 Question text part:

I’ll type the question as shown here.

09:49 Then click on Submit Question button.
09:52 Immediately, the question is posted on the Forums page.
09:57 Next we will see how to answer a question.
10:01 Domain experts, Spoken Tutorial team members or anyone who knows the answer can reply.
10:09 But one has to give relevant answers and use a friendly tone.
10:14 Also, avoid posting any obscene, hateful or nasty comment.
10:21 The questions and answers posted on Forums are moderated at regular intervals.
10:28 Any of the above mentioned content will be purged.
10:33 Now I’ll login as another registered user Nirmala Venkat and post an answer to this question.
10:41 In the Question column, I’ll click on the question title ‘Create CSV file’.
10:47 It will open a new webpage.
10:50 In the Answer textbox, I can type the answer.

I’ll type as shown.

10:57 Then click on the Submit Answer button.
11:01 So, this is how we can post questions and answers on Spoken Tutorial Forums.
11:08 Forum questions and answers are displayed on the Video Player page of each tutorial.
11:15 This applies to online as well as offline content.
