  • Moodle version 4.5
  • Firefox browser

Slide: Prerequisites

To follow this tutorial, you should:

  • Moodle 4.5 installed
  • Have student access in Moodle
  • For the prerequisite Moodle tutorials, please visit https://EduPyramids.org
Here are the prerequisites for this tutorial.
Login as Mahima Singh with username = mahima.singh and password = Mahima@123 Login to Moodle with your student Mahima’s account.
Screen: Dashboard After login, you will land on the Dashboard.

This is the personalized homepage for each student.

Click Edit mode Turn on the Edit mode at the top right.
Screen: Block Drawer – Calendar, Online Users Click on the block drawer arrow at the top right side.

You will see blocks like Online users and Calendar.

Screen: Add a Block below Dashboard→ Latest Announcements To add more blocks, click Add a block below Dashboard.

Let’s select the Latest Announcements block.

This is a useful block for students that shows course-wise announcements.

Click on "My courses" in the top menu Now, let’s look at Mahima’s enrolled courses. Click on My courses in the top menu.
Point to the 3 courses one by one This is the list of all courses the student is enrolled in.

Please note: Only published courses are visible to students.

Recall Mahima was enrolled earlier to these courses by the teacher and the Site admin.
Screen: Profile Dropdown → Profile Now let’s look at the personal details settings.

To edit your profile, click on your username at the top right.

Then click Profile.

Screen: Edit Profile Page

Add any city (Pune and country (India) → click on Update Profile

Click on Edit profile and Expand all.

You can update name, city, description, or upload or update your profile photo.

Once done, save the changes by clicking on the Update Profile button.

Now, let’s learn to send some messages.
Click on Dashboard → look at Online Users block

Point to Mahima (you will see her online if you followed my instructions at the beginning of the script)

Click on Dashboard and look at the Online Users block.

You can see other students here when they are logged in.

Click on the callout icon Click on the callout icon next to Amina Hasan.
Type "Hello Amina" → Enter Type “Hello Amina” and press Enter.
Type “Can I meet you at 4pm today in the library?” → Enter Then type “Can I meet you at 4pm today in the library?” and press Enter.
Just perform the below steps

Switch to the private browser window where Amina is logged in.

Click on Dashboard and look at the Online Users block.

Click on the callout icon next to Mahima.

Point to Amina's messages Let’s look at student Amina’s dashboard now.

Here are Mahima’s messages.

So that’s a quick overview of the Student’s dashboard!
