Slide: Prerequisites

To follow this tutorial, you should:

  • Have a teacher login
  • Teacher access to a Moodle course
  • Have assignment and quiz submissions from students
  • For the prerequisite Moodle tutorials, please visit https://EduPyramids.org
Here are the prerequisites for this tutorial.
Point to the logged in username Login as teacher Nitya Jeevan.
Screen: Dashboard → My Courses → Calculus From the dashboard, navigate to My Courses and select the Advanced Algebra course.
Screen: Course Page → Assignment 1 Scroll down and locate the Assignment 1 activity.
Screen: Submissions Refer to the above image Click on the Submissions menu.
Screen: Submissions table You will see a table of student submissions.
Point to Participant 1, Participant 2 Anonymous submissions was enabled for this assignment.

So, the student names appear as Participant 1, 2 and so on.

Click on the three dots below → "Grade" column → textbox → type For Participant 2, let’s locate the column named Grade.

Click on the three dots below it and click on Grade.

Click on the right arrow to go to pages 2 and 3 → Scroll each page to show the text of the submission Page 1 of Participant 2’s submission is now displayed on the screen.

Click the right arrow to view page 2.

Type 55 in the Grade textbox Now look at the right side of the screen and scroll down.

Since this submission is incomplete, we will grade it 55 out of 100.

Feedback comment box type “Incomplete submission” Then in the Feedback comment box we will type a short message.
Screen: Save changes Once done, click Save changes at the bottom of the page.
Point to Graded status The assignment submission now has Graded status.
Click on Change user dropdown and point to Amina Locate Change user dropdown.

Using this dropdown, we can choose the next student’s assignment.

Screen: Repeat the same steps for Participant 1’s submission Repeat the grading process for all other student submissions.
Click on Advanced Algebra at the top left Let’s return to the main course page of Advanced Algebra.'
Screen: My Courses → Calculus Locate Quiz for Basic Calculus Now, let us learn how to review a quiz submission.

Click on My courses and then on Calculus.

Scroll down to the quiz activity Quiz for Basic Calculus.

Screen: Quiz Summary Page → point to Attempts:2 We land on the quiz summary page.

Here we can see Attempts as 2.

Click on the Attempts link.

Screen: Quiz attempts table You will see a table of quiz attempts by the students.
Point to the Grade column This is an auto-graded quiz.

So grades are shown automatically for each student’s attempt.

Screen: Mahima → Review attempt Below the student’s name, we can see Review attempt link.

Click this to view the student’s detailed attempt.

Click "Make comment or override mark" You can override the grades for any question or add feedback comments.

Click Make comment or override mark.

Click on “Make comment or override mark” and type “Please refer to the Reading chapter for better understanding.” You can provide written feedback in the comment box.
Point to the Marks box You can also override the marks for the attempt.
Screen: Click on Save Click Save to apply the feedback and change in Marks, if any.
So, that’s how you do the grading for students’ assignments and quiz attempts.
