Switch to the browser.
Enter http://127.0.0.1/moodle/ |
Switch to the browser and open the Moodle site. |
Highlight the header and the courses | A page with a header and available courses will be displayed. |
Click on Log in | Click on the Login link at the top right corner of the window. |
Type username = becky0808 and password = Spokentutorial1@ | I will login as teacher Rebecca Raymond. |
Change password page | We are on a page that prompts us to change our password.

New password -> Type current password >> new password Spokentutorial12# | Type the current password followed by the new password.
|
New password (again) -> Re-type new password >> Click on Save changes button | Re-type the new password.

Highlight the success message in a red box | A success message appears confirming that the password has been changed.

The page that we are in now, is called the dashboard. | |
Point to the 3 columns | Our dashboard is divided into 3 columns.

Click on Courses | Courses tab lists the courses you are enrolled in.

Point to Calculus | In the In Progress tab, we see 2 courses here: Calculus and Linear Algebra.

Click on Future tab.

Future courses assigned to her, will be visible in the Future tab.

On the top left corner >> point to Navigation menu. | Let us now look at the header of the page.

Point to Calendar and Administration | This gives access to the Calendar, Private Files and My courses links. |
Click on the menu bar to collapse it.

This is a toggle menu.
|
Highlight the notification and messages icons. | At the top right, there are quick access icons for notifications and messages. |
Click on the Rebecca Raymond’s user menu.
|
Clicking on the profile picture at the top right, will enable us to access the user menu.

Click on the Profile link. | Click on the Profile option. |
Highlight various sections of the Profile page. | Every user in Moodle has a profile page. It has links to

Click on Edit Profile link. | Now let’s click on the Edit Profile link |
Scroll down to show the various sections.

The Edit Profile page opens up.
This page is divided into 5 sections:

Point as per narration | The General and User picture sections are expanded, by default. |
Click on the Expand all and Collapse all links | The ‘Expand all’ link on the right, expands all the sections. |
Click on any one section | And clicking on any section name either expands or collapses it. |
All fields here are editable. | |

Scroll down to the Optional Section that has instant messaging details.

Click on Update Profile | Then click on Update Profile button and save the page. |
Click on quick access menu.

Now click on the quick access user menu at the top right again.

The Preferences page gives users quick access to various settings they may wish to edit. | |
Highlight the 3 sections. | Preferences page for a teacher’s account is divided into :

Scroll down to show the User account section. | We have already seen Edit Profile and Change Password earlier. |
There are some other preferences for Language, Forum, Editor, Course, Calendar, Message, Notification. | |
Click on Calendar Preferences. | Let’s click on the Calendar preferences. |
Select 24-hour from the Time display format dropdown. | We will set the calendar to display time in 24 hour format. |
Select 2 weeks from the Upcoming events look-ahead dropdown. | Also, we will set the Upcoming events look-ahead to 2 weeks.

Click on Save Changes button. | Click on the Save Changes button. |
We will go through the rest of the preferences when we discuss those features later in this series. | |

Point first to Dashboard | It helps us to go back to a higher-level page with a single click. |
Click on Dashboard | Click on the Dashboard link in the breadcrumbs to go to the dashboard. |
Now let us see how to add a topic and brief summary for the Calculus course. | |
Click on Calculus | Let’s click on the Calculus course in the Navigation menu at the left. |
Click on gear icon at top-right | On the new page, click on the gear icon at the top right. |
Click on Turn editing on | Then click on Turn editing on option. |
The page now displays more edit options. | |
Click on pencil next to Topic 1 | Click on the pencil icon next to Topic 1. |
Type Basic Calculus >> Press Enter | Now, in the text box that appears, type Basic Calculus.

Point to the topic name | Notice the change of topic name. |
Click on Edit | Now click on the Edit link at the extreme right of that topic. |
Click on Edit topic | And then click on Edit topic option. |
Point to Summary | This brings us to the Summary page. |
Summary field:
Following sub-topics will be covered in this topic: Evolutes and involutes; Evaluation of definite and improper integrals; Beta and Gamma functions and their properties; Applications of definite integrals to evaluate surface areas and volumes of revolutions. |
Here, in the Summary field, we can give a brief summary of the topic.

Click on the Save Changes | Scroll down and click on the Save Changes button. |

Click on user icon >> choose Log out | We will now logout of Moodle.
