00:01 Welcome to the spoken tutorial on Inserting Images, Hyperlinks & Bookmarks.
00:08 In this tutorial we will learn how to insert:
00:12 An Image file
00:14 A Hyperlink
00:16 A Bookmark into a Writer document.
00:20 This tutorial is recorded using

Ubuntu Linux OS version 18.04 and LibreOffice Suite version 6.3.5

00:32 We will start by learning how to insert an image file in LibreOffice Writer
00:38 Open the file Resume.odt which we have created earlier.
00:44 This file and an image file have been provided to you in the Code files link on this tutorial page

Please download and extract the files.

00:54 Make a copy and then use them for practising
00:59 I would like to insert an image here on the right hand side.
01:04 As mentioned earlier, this image has been provided in the Code files link.
01:10 Go to the line which is Mother’s Occupation Housewife and press Enter twice.
01:17 Now, click on the Insert Image icon in the Standard toolbar.
01:22 Insert Image dialog-box appears.
01:25 Go to the location where your file is saved.
01:29 I have extracted and saved the file on my Desktop.
01:33 I will select the image file by clicking on it.
01:37 And then click on the Open button at the top right.
01:41 The Image gets inserted into our document.
01:45 We can resize this image to fit into the top right corner of the Resume document.
01:51 Select the image

On the image, we can see 8 handles.

01:57 Using the mouse, click on any of the side handles.
02:01 Then drag to increase or decrease the size of the image.
02:04 Undo these changes by pressing Ctrl+Z keys twice.
02:08 We can even scale both dimensions using the corner handles.
02:14 When we do that, the proportions are maintained.
02:18 Resize the image by clicking and dragging the mouse, like this.
02:23 After resizing, click on the image and drag it to the top right corner of the document.
02:30 We can also insert images by clicking on the Insert menu in the menu bar.
02:36 And then click on the Image option.
02:40 Next we will learn how Hyperlink is created in Writer.
02:44 Hyperlink within documents are words or phrases that can be clicked.
02:49 On clicking them, we jump to a new document or a new section within the current document.
02:55 Before creating a hyperlink in this file, we’ll first create a new document to be hyperlinked.
03:02 Click on the New icon in the standard toolbar
03:06 A new Writer document opens named as Untitled 1.
03:11 Now we will create a list of hobbies in this new document.
03:16 Let’s type the heading as HOBBIES and press Enter.
03:21 Now, let us type few of the hobbies as
03:25 Listening to music,
03:27 Playing table tennis and Painting one below the other.
03:32 Then save this file by pressing Ctrl + S keys together.
03:37 In the file browser, I will select Desktop as the location to save my file.
03:43 In the Name field of dialog box, we’ll type the filename as HOBBY
03:48 Then click on the Save button at the top right.
03:52 Close this file HOBBY.odt by clicking on the X icon at the top right corner.
03:59 Now we’ll create a hyperlink in Resume.odt which would redirect to this document.
04:06 Place the cursor at the end of the last line in the document and press Enter twice.
04:12 Type the word HOBBIES.
04:15 Now select the text by dragging the cursor along the word HOBBIES.
04:20 Then click on Insert menu in the menu bar and click on the Hyperlink option.
04:26 Hyperlink dialog box opens up.
04:29 On the left, we see the options Internet, Mail, Document and New Document.
04:37 For creating a hyperlink to another text document, click on Document option.

05:13 We see that the path to the file gets inserted in the Path field.
05:18 At the bottom, click on the Apply button first and then on the Close button.
05:24 We see that the text "HOBBIES" is underlined and is blue in color.
05:30 Which means the text is now a hyperlink.
05:34 Now, place the cursor on the word HOBBIES.
05:38 Then press the Ctrl key and the left mouse button together.
05:42 We see that the file HOBBY.odt opens up.

06:02 Bookmarks are useful when we are reading large documents.
06:06 It helps us to mark and later revisit certain pages or paragraphs in a document.
06:13 I will select the text RAMESH.
06:16 Then click on the Insert Bookmark icon in the Standard toolbar.
06:21 The Bookmark dialog box opens.
06:24 The text field says Bookmark 1.
06:28 We can give our own customised name if we wish to.
06:32 I will leave this as it is.
06:35 Click on the Insert button to the right of this field.
06:39 The Bookmark dialog box automatically closes.
06:43 I will now select another text within the document, say SELF EMPLOYED.
06:49 Once again, click on the Insert Bookmark icon in the Standard toolbar.
06:55 This time the dialog box shows our previously created bookmark in the list below.
07:01 The text field now says Bookmark 2.

Again, I will leave it as default.

07:08 Then click on the Insert button to the right of this field.
07:13 Click on the Insert Bookmark icon in the Standard toolbar.
07:18 This time the dialog box shows 2 bookmarks.

07:28 Click on the Close button.
07:31 The focus shifts to the specified portion of text in the document.
07:36 Click on Insert bookmark icon in the Standard toolbar.
07:41 Now click on the other bookmark.

And then click on the Go to button at the bottom of the dialog box.

07:49 Click on the Close button.
07:52 The focus shifts to the other specified portion of text in the document.
07:58 Explore what the other buttons in the dialog box will do, on your own.
08:03 This is how we can insert and use Bookmarks in a Writer document.
08:09 Press Ctrl+S to save Resume.odt file.
08:14 And then click on X icon at the top right corner of the window to close it.
08:20 We have another feature in Hyperlinks which is Target in document.
08:25 This will help the reader to find a specific section in the target document.
08:30 Open HOBBY.odt file.
08:33 Inside the document, select the word tennis.
08:37 Click on Insert menu in the menu bar and select Bookmark.
08:42 Under the Bookmark dialog box, in the place of Bookmark1 type tennis.
08:48 Now click on the Insert button on the right.

09:04 Click on Insert menu in the menu bar and select Hyperlink.
09:09 The Hyperlink dialog box opens up.

09:21 Under Target in document section, click on the circle icon to the right.
09:27 The Target in document list box opens.

10:00 Keep the cursor on the word HOBBIES.

And press the Ctrl key and the left mouse-button together.

10:06 Notice that this time the cursor is next to the word tennis in the HOBBY.odt file.
