Introduction

KTouch is a typing tutor. It teaches you how to type using an online interactive keyboard. You can learn typing at your own pace.You can gradually increase your typing speed and along with it, your accuracy. KTouch also has lectures or typing samples, in various levels of difficulty, for you to practice with.

Getting Started with Ktouch

  1. Start Typing
    • Initiate the user into typing using Ktouch
    • Install Ktouch using Ubuntu Software Centre.
    • Overview of the Interface.
    • Explain the QWERTY Keyboard with reference to the keyboard displayedQWERTY Keyboard with reference to the keyboard displayed.
    • Common special characters used in English language
    • Point to the Tab, Caps Lock, Shift keys, and Space Bar keys.
    • Point to and briefly explain the Enter and Backspace keys.
    • Difference between the Teacher Line and the Student Line.
    • Explain the position of the fingers with respect to the keyboard.
    • Complete a basic typing lesson.

Configuring Settings

  1. Set level, speed, correctness and configure toolbars
    • The topic will assist the user to:
      Adjust the levels of typing.
      Set the typing speed.
      Set the correctness of the typing.
      Set the workload (the number of lines that a user can type).
    • The user will also be able to view the details of typing statistics such as
      session details,
      current level statistics,
      monitor the typing progress.
    • The topic will also teach user to configure the toolbars.

Customizing Ktouch

  1. Create a New Lecture and Keyboard
    • The user will create a new lecture by
      entering new characters to learn,
      saving the new lecture as an XML file,
      viewing the new lecture file,
      practice typing of the characters in the new lecture file.
      The user will also set the colour settings for the training.
    • Create a key board by
      Customizing an existing keyboard.
      Changing the font of the existing keyboard.
      Save the keyboard as an XML file
