System Requirement

To record this tutorial, I am using,
  • Ubuntu Linux OS version 16.04
  • Windows 10
  • GeoGebra version 5.x
  • Mozilla Firefox Browser 67.0
  • Open jdk 9 and
  • A working Internet connection.

Pre-requisites

To follow this tutorial learner should have knowledge of basic Mathematics.

About GeoGebra

Let us first see what is GeoGebra.
  • GeoGebra is a dynamic and interactive mathematics software for geometry, algebra and calculus.
  • It is useful for computer aided interactive learning.
  • It is a free/libre and open source cross-platform software.
  • Its code is written in Java programming environment.
Now we will learn about the GeoGebra website.
In the address bar type: www.geogebra.org >> press Enter. Open your default web browser.

In the address bar type: www.geogebra.org and press Enter.

Cursor on the website. This is the homepage of GeoGebra website.
Now we will see how to use the online GeoGebra Math Apps.
Click on blue START GRAPHING button.

Point to the new tab.

Click on the blue START GRAPHING button.


GeoGebra Graphic Calculator window opens in a new tab.

Point to the interface. This the interface of online GeoGebra window.
Point to:

Algebra icon

Tools icon

Input bar

Graphics view

Keyboard

The interface has,
  • Algebra icon to show Algebra view
  • Tools icon to show the geometric tools
  • Table icon
  • Input bar
  • Graphics view and
  • Keyboard to input values into the input bar
Click on Tools icon.

Point to the tools.

Let us click on the Tools icon.

Geometric tools are displayed on the left panel.

Point to the headings like,

Basic Tools

Edit

Media

Measure and others

All the tools are grouped under different headings.
Scroll down to show tools. I will scroll down to show all the tools.
Cursor on the online interface Let me show a small demo.
Click on the Segment tool.

Point to the tool tip and HELP.

Under the category Lines, I’ll click on the Segment tool to draw a line segment.

Its tool tip and HELP appear below.

Click two points in the Graphics view. Now click two points in the Graphics view to draw segment AB.
Click on GeoGebra webpage tab. Let us go back to the GeoGebra webpage.
Click on CLASSROOM RESOURCES button. Click on CLASSROOM RESOURCES button.
Point to the page.

Arithmetic

Geometry

Trigonometry and others

Classroom Resources page opens.

This page has various apps created using GeoGebra for different branches of Math.

You can explore these resources later on your own.

Download GeoGebra

Now I will show how to download GeoGebra on Windows 10 and Ubuntu Linux 16.04 OS.

GeoGebra Classic 5

Geogebra Classic 5 is the stable version of GeoGebra, while recording this tutorial.


To practise these tutorials, you can download any 5.x version of GeoGebra.

Cursor on Windows 10 screen.

www.geogebra.org

In Windows 10, open the GeoGebra homepage in the browser, as shown.
Click on the link Apps Downloads.

Point to Download GeoGebra Apps page.

On the left of the panel, click on Apps Downloads.

Download GeoGebra Apps page opens.

Select GeoGebra Classic 5 >> click on DOWNLOAD. Go to the section GeoGebra Classic 5 and click on the DOWNLOAD link.
Point to the dialog box. A dialog box opens, prompting us to save the file.
Click on Save File button.

Point to the downloading.

Click on the Save File button to start downloading.

Downloading takes a few seconds depending on your internet speed.

Point to the Geogebra Windows installer file in the Downloads folder. Geogebra Windows installer file has downloaded to my Downloads folder.
Double click on the installer file.

Click on Yes button in the dialog box.

Double-click on the installer file.

Click on the Yes button in the dialog box that appears.

Point to the window.

Point to the message.

GeoGebra Installer window opens.

It shows Welcome to the GeoGebra 5 Setup Wizard message.

Point to English in the drop down. In the language drop down, English is selected by default.

We will leave it as it is.

Click on Next button. Click on Next button in this window.
Click on I Agree button. In the License Agreement dialog box, click on I Agree button.
Click on Next button. Click on Next button in this window.
Point to Setup Type

Point to Standard radio button.

In the Setup Type window, Standard radio button is selected by default.

We will leave it as it is.

Click on Install button in the window. Then click on Install button to start the installation process.

Installation takes a few seconds.

Point to the message.

Click on Finish button.

Completing the Geogebra 5 Setup Wizard message appears.

Now click on the Finish button.

Cursor on the interface.

Click on the X button to close the Sign in dialog box.

GeoGebra interface opens.

The Sign in to GeoGebra option is not mandatory.

We can skip this and close the dialog box.

Cursor on Ubuntu Desktop. Next I will show how to install Geogebra Classic 5 in Ubuntu Linux 16.04 OS.
www.geogebra.org. Open the GeoGebra homepage in the browser, as shown.
Click on the link Apps Downloads.

Point to Download GeoGebra Apps page

On the left of the page, click on Apps Downloads.

Download GeoGebra Apps page opens.

Select GeoGebra Classic 5 >> click on DOWNLOAD. Go to the section GeoGebra Classic 5 and click on the DOWNLOAD link.
Cursor on the page. GeoGebra Classic 5 for Desktop page opens.
Linux (deb): 64 bit / 32 bit installers for .deb based systems (Debian, Mint, Ubuntu)

Click on 64 bit / 32 bit.

To download GeoGebra on Ubuntu Linux,

select Linux(deb) 64 bit / 32 bit installers for .deb based systems (Debian, Mint, Ubuntu)

You can click on 64 bit / 32 bit depending on your system’s configuration.

I will click on 64 bit link.

Point to the dialog box. A dialog box opens, prompting us to save the file.
Click on Save File button.

Click on OK button.

Show the downloading files.

Click on Save File radio button.

Then click on OK button to start the download.

Downloading takes a few seconds depending on your internet speed.

geogebra5_5.0.543.0-686440_amd64.deb file geogebra5.deb file downloads to the Downloads folder.
Right-click on .deb file and select Open with Software install. Right-click on the .deb file and select Open with Software install.
Point to the window.

In the window click on Install button.

Ubuntu Software window opens.

In the window, click on the Install button.

Point to the installation >> Point to the dialog-box. Once the installation starts, Authenticate dialog-box opens.
Type the system password >> click on Authenticate button at the bottom. Type the system password and click on

Authenticate button at the bottom.

Point to the Installation progress bar. The installation takes a few seconds.
Point to the Remove button in the Ubuntu Software window

Click on the X button to close.

Once the installation is complete, you will see a Remove button.

Close the Ubuntu Software window.

Cursor on the Ubuntu screen. Let us now open GeoGebra using Dash Home.
Click on Dash Home.

In the Search bar type geogebra.

Point to the icon.

Click on the icon to open.

Click on Dash Home.

In the Search bar that appears type geogebra.


The GeoGebra icon appears.

Click on the icon to open GeoGebra interface.

Now we will learn about the benefits of GeoGebra.
  • GeoGebra is simple and flexible in all its features.
  • It allows to use the tools in 2D and 3D Graphics modes
  • GeoGebra helps to create worksheets and learning materials.
  • Tools in GeoGebra help in constructions and calculations and to prove theorems.
