0:38 Let us now learn about Part design workbench.
0:41 This workbench provides tools for creating 3 dimensional solid objects.
0:47 Using this workbench it is possible to design precise 3D mechanical parts.
0:53 The Part design is intrinsically related to the Sketcher workbench.
0:59 The Sketcher workbench is used to create 2 dimensional geometries for use in Part design.
01:05 Let us open FreeCAD.
01:09 I will open a new file.
01:11 I have selected the Part Design workbench.
01:15 In the Tasks menu, under Start Part click on Create body.
01:22 A new Body needs to be created to draw a sketch.
01:25 Now under Start Body, click on Create sketch.
01:30 This creates a sketch view where you can draw the components.
01:34 On the panel we can see three planes in 3 mutually perpendicular directions.
01:41 In the Combo View under Select feature three planes are shown.
01:47 Select XY-plane in the Combo View.
01:50 This denotes the top view.
01:53 Click the OK button to select the plane.
01:56 Observe that new tools are shown on the toolbar.
02:00 Now let us draw a vertical line from the x-axis.
02:05 Select the Create line tool from the tool bar.
02:08 Place the cursor on the x-axis line.
02:12 You can see that the x-axis line changes to yellow.
02:17 You can see that a Constrain point onto object symbol appears near the cursor.
02:22 It denotes that the point is fixed to the line.
02:27 Now click on the line to start drawing it.
02:30 Drag the mouse vertically upwards to draw a vertical line.
02:36 You can see a Vertical constrain symbol appearing near the cursor.
02:40 It represents the line drawn vertically.
02:43 Left click to complete the drawing of the line.
02:46 Now let us draw a horizontal line along the x-axis.
02:52 Make sure that the Create line tool is selected.
02:55 You can check that by seeing the symbol near the cursor.
02:59 Place the cursor on the line.
03:01 You can see the Constraint Point onto object symbol near the cursor.
03:06 Click and drag the cursor horizontally to draw a horizontal line.
03:11 Now you can see two symbols appearing near the cursor.
03:16 Constrain point onto object symbol and Constrain horizontal symbol.
03:21 We don’t want two Constraint point onto objects.
03:25 This means that the line is fixed at two points to the same object.
03:30 Upon clicking, you can see that the entire drawing has turned to red.
03:35 To clear that, click on any one of the constraints.
03:39 Press the Delete key on your keyboard to delete the constrain.
03:44 Now you can see that the drawing came back to normal.
03:47 Let us avoid the appearance of the Constrain Point Onto Object symbol twice.
03:52 To do this, let’s draw a line below the x-axis.
03:57 To deselect the tools, right-click on the panel.
04:00 Or press the Escape key to deselect the tools.
04:05 Now let us draw an arc.
04:08 Select the Create arc tool from the tool bar.
04:11 Place the cursor on the top end of the vertical line.
04:15 You can see that a X-Shaped symbol appears near the cursor.
04:20 It is the Constrain coincidence.
04:23 It denotes that the cursor is at the top of the end point.
04:28 Now left click and drag the cursor to left or right.
04:33 You can see a model circle that can be drawn.
04:37 Click to release the model circle.
04:40 Drag the cursor to start drawing the arc.
04:44 Left click again to finish the arc.
04:47 Now let us draw a circle.
04:50 Select the Create circle tool.
04:53 Place the cursor at the end of the horizontal line.
04:57 Check for the X-Symbol.
05:00 Left click and drag the cursor to draw the circle.
05:04 Once the definite size is visible, left click to finish the circle.
05:10 Observe that, we have drawn these shapes with no dimensions.
05:15 Let us assign some values to them.
05:18 Let us select the vertical line.
05:21 Select the Constrain vertical distance tool from the tool bar.
05:26 Insert length pop up appears.
05:29 In the Length field type 30 mm and click the OK button.
05:36 You can see that a dimension is applied to that line.
05:39 Now select the horizontal line and click the Constrain horizontal distance tool.
05:46 Insert length pop up appears.
05:50 In the Length field type 30 millimetre and click the OK button.
05:55 Now to set the radius of the arc, select the arc.
06:00 Select the arrow near the Constrain arc or circle tool.
06:06 In the drop down select Constrain radius.
06:09 Insert radius pop up appears.
06:12 In the Radius field type 10 mm and click OK.
06:17 Now let us give the dimensions to the circle.
06:21 To set the radius for the circle, select the circle.
06:26 Select Constrain radius.
06:29 Insert radius pop up appears.
06:32 In the Radius field type 20 mm and click OK.
06:37 In the Combo View click on the Close button to complete the sketch
06:42 Now let us use the tools to draw a Flange coupling.
06:47 Now I will open a new file.
06:50 We can select the Create body tool from the toolbar.
06:54 Then select Create sketch.
06:58 Select XY-plane and click OK.
07:03 Now let us draw two circles.
07:07 Select the Create circle tool and place the cursor on the x-axis.
07:12 You can see that line changes to yellow color.
07:16 You can see that Constrain point onto object symbol appears near the cursor.
07:22 Now click on the line to draw a circle.
07:26 Repeat the process on the other side of the x axis.
07:30 Now right click the mouse to deselect the tool.
07:34 Select the center of any one of the circles and the midpoint of the plane.
07:40 Once the points are selected they turn to green color.
07:44 Click Constrain Horizontal Distance tool.
07:47 In the Insert length dialog box, type the length as 100 millimetre and click OK.
07:55 Select the centers of both the circles and click Constrain Horizontal Distance tool.
08:02 Change the length to 200 mm.
08:06 Let us move the drawing to a convenient place to see it clearly.
08:11 Press and hold the middle mouse button to see the move cursor.
08:16 Move the mouse and place the drawing at a convenient location.
08:21 Now select the Create arc tool.
08:25 Place the cursor on the center of the circle.
08:29 You can see that midpoint changes to yellow color.
08:33 An X-shaped symbol appears near the cursor.
08:37 This denotes that the cursor is at the midpoint of the circle.
08:42 Now click on the midpoint and draw a semicircle from bottom to up.
08:48 Repeat the same process on the other side.
08:52 Let’s draw two more arcs above and below the plane from center of the plane.
08:59 Now, select the Line tool and connect all the arcs.
09:05 Make sure to click only when the X-symbol is visible.
09:10 Now select a line and the arc and select the Constraint Tangent tool.
09:16 This makes the connection between the arc and line smooth .
09:20 Repeat this process for the arcs and lines at four points to make them smoother.
09:28 Now select the top arc and click Constraint radius tool
09:34 Set the radius to 75 mm.
09:38 Let us change the radius for the bottom arc also.
09:44 Now select both the circles and click Constraint radius tool.
09:50 Change the radius to 10 mm.
09:55 Select the arcs around the circles and change the radius to 30 mm.
10:02 Click Close in the Combo view.
10:04 You will exit the sketch view
10:06 Now select the Top view from the Gizmo.
10:11 Select the Pad tool from the tool bar.
10:15 You can see that the sketch will turn into a 3D object.
10:19 In the Combo view change the length to 20 mm.
10:24 This will increase the thickness of the drawing making it 3 dimensional.
10:28 Then click the OK button.
10:31 Let us rotate the drawing.
10:33 Press and hold the middle mouse button.
10:36 Right click and move the mouse.
10:39 Or you can change the view using the gizmo.
10:44 Again click Create sketch.
10:48 Then click XY-plane.
10:51 Click the OK button.
10:55 Select the View section tool to clearly see all the points.
10:59 Now draw a circle from the center of the plane.
11:05 Set the radius to 50 mm.
11:09 Click the Close button.
11:12 Go to the Model tab in the Combo view.
11:15 Select the sketch if not already selected.
11:19 Now select the Pocket tool from the tool bar.
11:23 Pocket tool is used to create holes in already existing drawings.
11:28 In the Combo view, change the length to 20 mm.
11:33 Tick the Reversed check box.
11:36 Click the OK button.
11:39 Now change the view to front using the gizmo or from the tool bar.
11:45 The 3D component is ready.
11:48 Now let us Save the file with an appropriate name.
