Notes to spoken tutorial developer:

Create a background scene – a small house (inside and outside), a bathroom with its door open

Create characters of a lady -Anita (25-30 years old), a lady-doctor (30 years old) and one newborn kid (few weeks old).

Objects to be created – a door, towel, a milk bottle, a feeding bowl

Images to be used (with proper numbering) should be given to the creators/animators before video production

Opening Slide	Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on Neonatal Childcare.
Learning Objective	In this tutorial we will learn about:- How to take care of a newborn baby Common problems faced by a new mother and How to tackle those problems
Doctor Anjali enters the house of Anita.	Dr. Anjali enters Anita’s house and expresses her happiness on her newborn child.
The doctor sees that Anita is holding her baby the wrong way. (Fig. 1)	Dr. Anjali notices Anita is holding her baby in a wrong way. She tells Anita to be careful while carrying the baby.
Anita panics.	Dr. Anjali shows her how to support the head of the baby and cradle it when holding the baby upright or when laying it down.
Anita looks towards the doctor.	The doctor advices Anita to never handle the baby roughly.
Anita moves towards the doctor and speaks to her.	Anita tells the doctor that she is new to all this. And asks for her advice on taking better care of her newborn baby.
The lady doctor nods and agrees to help her.	Dr Anjali happily agrees. She points out that first and foremost it is important - to wash your hands with soap or charcoal-ash before handling the newborn babies. Young babies have not yet built up a strong immune system. So, they are susceptible to infections.
Image of a baby being fed.	Anita asks the doctor, “How often should I feed my baby?”. The doctor tells Anita that a newborn baby needs to be fed every 2 to 3 hours.
Image of Doctor and Anita conversing	She explains that breastfeeding is most important for - the health of the baby and development of the baby’s immune system.
Image of Doctor and Anita conversing	Also, if you're breastfeeding, give your baby the chance to nurse about 10-15 minutes at each breast.
Image of Doctor and Anita conversing	Then, Anita asks the doctor about formula-feeding the baby.
Image of Anita feeding her baby milk-substitute(cerlac)	The lady doctor states that if you're formula-feeding your baby (like milk-substitutes), then it will most likely take about 60-90 gm at each feeding.
Anita moves towards the doctor and speaks to her	Anita then asks the doctor about when and how can she give the baby a bath.

Slide	She says that we should give the baby only sponge bath, until (a) the umbilical cord falls off (b) the circumcision heals (c) the naval heals completely
Image of a little grown up baby (of ~1 year of age)	The doctor explains that after the initial period, 2-3 baths per week, with a mild soap, are sufficient to the baby. This can continue during the first year of the baby. Frequent bathing may be drying to the skin.

Anita gets scared.	Anita gets scared. She asks the doctor how to take care of such rashes.

Image of baby with rashes.	She further says that you should change your baby's cloth diaper frequently, and as soon as possible after bowel movements.
Anita wipes the baby with a cloth.	After cleaning the area with mild soap and water, wipe it dry. Then apply some baby powder over it to keep it moisture-free.
Image of Anita and doctor conversing.	The doctor further explains that if you use cloth diapers, wash them in hot water with a disinfectant (Dettol). Its also a good idea to let the baby go un-diapered for part of the day.
