Procedure to construct a Biogas plant.

Hello friends.

Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on Material required to construct a Biogas plant.

Slide Number 2

Learning Objective

  • The various materials required to construct a Biogas plant
  • Area required to construct the plant
  • The site
  • Number of days required for construction
  • And the best time to construct the plant
In this tutorial, we will learn about
  • The various materials required to construct a Biogas plant
  • Area required to construct the plant
  • The site
  • Number of days required for construction
  • And the best time to construct the plant
Let us begin Let us begin.
Slide no. 3

Where to procure the materials from?

The materials required to construct a Biogas plant-
  • can be procured from any hardware & cement shop.

Material required to construct a Biogas plant?

The following material are required to construct the plant:

1. Cement 14 packs

2. Gravel - ½ brass

3. Sand - 1 brass

4. Three bundles of Chicken mesh, 30 feet each

5. Weldmesh sheet of size 3 ft x 4 ft with 1 inch x 1 inch of the hole size

6. Twelve feet of 6 mm Steel rods- 35 kgs

7. One kg of Steel wire- to be cut into 7-8 inches per piece

8. Bricks- 3

9. Two kg of White cement

11. Jute gunny bags- 25 (approx.)

12. Plastic sheet- 13 feet x 10 feet

13. Seven Bamboo sticks of approx. size - 3.5 ft

Adequate Water

14. Liquid waterproofing material - 1 Ltr

Point an arrow in the middle of the trowel to show the concave bent

15. Wooden square trowel with a concave bent from inside.

These are especially used for-
  • smoothening the cement plaster
  • on the dome of the Biogas plant

20. Trough with a capacity of 10 kgs

21. Scissor to cut the chicken mesh

22. 1 measuring tape

23. One kg of Newspaper

25. Iron rod with hollow ends at either sides

[[Image:]][[Image:]][[Image:]] We will now look at other items required to construct the plant such as-
  • tubes,
  • pipes and
  • valves
[[Image:]] We require-

1. Main gas control valve of size 1 inch

2. Metal pipe-

  • To be connected from the center of the dome- 30 cms x 1 inch of diameter
  • This will be the main gas pipe
[[Image:]]

3. Gas conveyer pipe of 1/2 inch diameter

  • The length of this pipe will depend upon
  • the distance between Biogas plant and the kitchen
[[Image:]]

4. Inlet pipe connected from Mixing tank to Digester tank-

  • Should be 6 inches diameter and approx. 5 feet of length

Image of the pipe in a horizontal position

5. Another outlet pipe of 6 inches diameter

  • To be connected from slurry tank to the slurry collection pit
[[Image:]]

If the outlet pipe is not required, alternately, construct a drain-

  • Between slurry tank and the slurry collection pit as shown.
  • The depth of this slurry collection pit can be between 4 to 6 feet.
  • The slurry collected in this pit can be manually poured in the fields.

6. We also require Safety-valve of 1 inch

7. Approximately, 6 mtrs of rubber hose pipe of ½ inch diameter

This rubber hose pipe will be used to convey the gas-

  • from the safety valve to the kitchen stove
[[Image:]]

8. Two Vohj clips are required to secure the pipe.

9. A few other items like-

  • Synthetic Resin Adhesive- 250 ml
[[Image:]]

10. And Teflon tape

[[Image:]][[Image:]][[Image:]] Always use good quality cement, gravel and sand.

These are really important for the durability of the Biogas plant.

Let’s now talk about the-
  • Area
  • Site
  • Number of days required for construction
  • And best time to construct the plant
[[Image:]] To construct the Biogas plant, we need approx. 12ft X 8 ft of land, near the house.
[[Image:]] The site should be such that-
  1. construction cost is minimized and
  2. it receives ample sunlight
  3. to maintain the right temperature inside the Biogas plant.
[[Image:]][[Image:]] The selected site should also ensure easy operation and maintenance of -
  1. Mixing tank
  2. Digester tank
  3. Main gas control valve to switch off gas inflow and
  4. Slurry tank
The site should also be located-
  • near to the source of animal dung
  • and the toilet.

This will help to easily operate the plant and avoid wastage of raw materials.

  • The total number of days required to complete
  • the civil work of a Biogas plant are 3 - 5 days.
Show full year calendar The best time of the year to construct the Biogas plant is-
  • Between November and June.

Constructing Biogas plants during the rainy season is best avoided, as it becomes messy.

This brings us to the end of this tutorial on the material required to construct a Biogas plant.

The construction part of the Biogas plant will be explained in next tutorial, under the same series

Let’s Summarize-

In this tutorial, we learnt

  • Preferred site and
  • Number of days required
  • Along with the best time to construct the plant
