| 00:42 | Now let us open Audacity to dub or record a script. |
| 00:47 | If you are a Windows user, click on Start Menu and type Audacity in the search box. |
| 00:56 | Click on Audacity from the displayed list. |
| 01:00 | This will open an empty Audacity project on your screen. |
| 01:05 | If you are in a Ubuntu Linux, click on Dash Home. |
| 01:10 | Type Audacity in the Search Box
Click on the Audacity icon. |
| 01:17 | This will open an empty Audacity project on your screen. |
| 01:22 | In the main Menu bar, we can see various options.
Like File, Edit, View, Transport, Tracks and others. |
| 01:34 | We will learn about some of these in detail, as we go along. |
| 01:40 | Below the main Menu bar, we will see the VCR controls such as
Pause, Play, Stop, Rewind, Forward and Record. |
| 01:54 | This is also called as Transport Toolbar. |
| 01:58 | Next to this, we will find the Audacity Tools Toolbar. |
| 02:03 | It has Selection Tool and Time Shift Tool, which we will use in this tutorial. |

| 02:15 | At the bottom left of the Audacity window, we can see the Project Rate. |
| 02:21 | Click on the drop-down arrow.
We recommend to keep the Project Rate in Audacity file to 22050 Hz. |
| 02:32 | Low Project Rate will ensure low file size of the final mp3 file. |
| 02:38 | As an example, I will use a Hindi script to record.
This script has begin timings of each sentence. |
| 02:48 | I will be using these noted timings while editing the audio track later. |

| 03:36 | Now I am going to dub this into Hindi language using Audacity. |
| 03:42 | Switch to Audacity again. |
| 03:45 | To record, click on the Record button in the Transport Toolbar and narrate the script. |
| 04:04 | Click on the Pause button in the Transport toolbar to pause the recording. |
| 04:10 | We can also press the P key on the keyboard, to pause while recording. |
| 04:16 | Remember to give a pause for 1 or 2 seconds in between two sentences. |
| 04:23 | Continue to narrate the script.
To resume the recording, again press the P key. |
| 04:40 | Now, click on the STOP button in the Transport toolbar to stop the recording. |
| 04:46 | You may have noticed that there was a loud noise while narrating the sentence. So I had to repeat it. |
| 04:56 | I will teach you how to rectify this problem later in the series. |
| 05:02 | Now, look at the Tracks. |
| 05:05 | The spikes are the waveforms of the audio. |
| 05:09 | If there is only one track, then the audio is recorded in Mono mode. |
| 05:15 | And if there are 2 tracks, then the audio is recorded in Stereo mode. |
| 05:23 | This will be mentioned explicitly in the Label area on the left panel. |
| 05:28 | By default, the recording mode is set to Stereo. |
| 05:33 | We have recorded in Stereo mode, so we can see two tracks over here. |
| 05:39 | But we can also set Mono mode as the default mode. |
| 05:44 | Click on the Audio Track. |
| 05:47 | In the Main menu, go to the Tracks option. |
| 05:51 | Click on the option Stereo Track to Mono.
This will convert the stereo track to mono. |
| 05:59 | Let us revert back to Stereo Track by pressing Ctrl + Z keys. |
| 06:06 | Now let’s record further in the same file. |
| 06:10 | Ideally, we should record in one go so that we get a single audio track. Now, let me adjust the track for a better view. |
| 06:22 | Click on the Selection Tool. |
| 06:25 | Click at the end of the previous recording on the Audio Track. |
| 06:30 | Now, click on the Record button to start the recording again and narrate the next sentence. |
| 06:38 | Add the audio |
| 06:45 | Click on the Stop button to stop the recording. |
| 06:49 | Please note.
This audio clip will appear in a separate Stereo Track. |
| 06:55 | Once we press Stop button and restart recording, the audio clip will always appear on a new track. Let me again adjust the track for a better view. |
| 07:08 | Next, we will learn how to merge all these audio tracks into a single track. |
| 07:15 | Choose Time Shift Tool. |
| 07:18 | Select the audio clip from the second track by clicking on it. |
| 07:24 | Drag-and-drop it at the end of the first audio track. |
| 07:29 | Notice here the 2 clips appear to be merged.
But it is actually not so. |
| 07:37 | To merge 2 audio clips, simply click on the joint between the clips.
They are now merged into a single clip. |
| 07:47 | Now we can move the whole clip wherever we want. |
| 07:52 | Notice here - the second audio track is now empty. |
| 07:57 | We can remove it by clicking on the 'X' button in the Label area. |
| 08:03 | Observe that the track has been removed.
It’s a good habit to remove empty tracks. |
| 08:11 | Once we are done with the recording, we should save the file. |
| 08:16 | To do so, go to the File menu and click on Save Project. |
| 08:24 | A dialog box will open. And it will ask for a filename. |
| 08:30 | I am giving the filename as "Hindi-What-is-ST". |
| 08:35 | Next it will ask for the location where it has to be saved. |
| 08:40 | I will choose Desktop and then click on Save.
This will save the project as 'Hindi-What-is-ST.aup' file |
| 08:52 | Note: we have only saved the project file. |
| 08:56 | The audio is not yet in the format that can play in any audio/video player. |
| 09:03 | Now close this project file. |
| 09:06 | Next, let us see how to open an existing project file. |
| 09:11 | On the Desktop, we had saved the file Hindi-What-is-ST.aup. |
| 09:18 | Whenever we save the Audacity Project file, it will also create a folder named as Projectname_data. |
| 09:28 | In my case it is Hindi-What-is-ST_data. |
| 09:35 | This folder contains the Audacity data for each project. |
| 09:40 | If this folder is deleted or moved to another location, then we cannot open and edit the Audacity project. |
| 09:49 | Double-click on Hindi-What-is-ST.aup to open it. |
| 09:55 | You can see the audio track inside. |
| 09:59 | Now let us close this project file. |
