Open Browser | Go to the MOODLE website installed in the local system, by typing the URL http://localhost/moodle. The tutorial on installation of moodle will be available soon in spoken tutorials. The front page shows the name of the learning management system given by the site administrator.
On the right hand side corner of the screen there is a link available for login page. Click on the link to enter into the login page. |
Continue in browser | Now login as an administrator, by typing the user name and password of the administrator. |
Continue in browser | Once you login as an administrator, you can see the site administration module of the MOODLE in the left side of the screen. The site administration module has options like Users, Courses, Grades, Location, Language, Modules, Security, Appearance, Front page, Server, Networking, Reports and Miscellaneous. |
Continue in browser | Now, Click on the Front Page link available in the site administration module. |
Continue in browser | It displays the list of sub menus. Click on the ‘Front page settings’ option. It leads to a page titled Front page settings . |
Continue in browser | Here you can load the relevant details to be displayed on the front page of your MOODLE site. You can also set the items with respect to the courses , news items and list of categories. These items will be displayed on the home page of the website. |
Continue in browser | The details of maximum category depth, news items to be shown and the number of courses to be displayed per page can also be chosen and set in the same page. |
Continue in browser | The next option is on the front page roles which displays the roles as administrator, teacher etc.. along with their brief description. Users can be added for a particular role by selecting the appropriate role. |
Continue in browser | Throughout Moodle, you will see a question mark in a yellow circle as seen beside the front page roles title. This is a link to Moodle’s very extensive help system. When you click the question mark icon, a new window pops up with the help file for the item you are asking about. After you read the help file, you can close the window with the “Close this window” button or look at other help files by clicking on the “Index of all help files” link. You can then select any help file from anywhere in the help system. |
Continue in browser | Click on the ‘Front page backup’ option. It leads to a page where the choices for setting up the backup options and backup role assignments for different roles can be set. The default values are shown in this page which can be modified to suit the needs. After setting the options, click the continue button at the end of the page to go to the next page. This page displays the backup details. Click on continue again. The next page displays the name of the backup file created. Click continue again to go to the 'front page restore' option of the site administration menu. A table with a list of backup files is displayed. Now the appropriate action can be selected. For example say you want to restore a backup file, click on restore option corresponding to that file and the changes you made after that backup will be undone. |
Continue in browser | The front page restore page also contains a provision to make a folder, upload a file and to select or to deselect the given list of backup files/folders. We may also delete, move or create the zip archive of selected files/folders.
. It also gives the details about the name of the file, the size, date of modification and the action to be taken. These options are useful for restoring the front page. |
