00:01 Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on “Animate a toy train” using Synfig.
00:06 In this tutorial, we will learn to animate the toy train which we created earlier.
00:12 For this tutorial, I am using:

Ubuntu Linux 14.04 OS,

Synfig version 1.0.2

00:21 Let’s open our Train Synfig file.
00:25 Please open your Train Synfig file which you saved on your system.
00:29 Let us start with the animation.
00:31 Click on the drop down list of Engine group layer.
00:36 Right-click on any of the Wheel group layer.
00:39 Select the Star layer.
00:41 Again right-click and click on New layer.
00:45 Then click on Transform and on Rotate.
00:50 Now the Rotate effect has been applied to the wheel.
00:54 Move the anchor point to the centre of the wheel.
00:58 In the Animation panel, click on Turn on animate editing mode icon.
01:05 Type 24 in the Current frame box.
01:09 Go to the Parameters panel.
01:11 Double-click on the value of Amount parameter and change the value to 360.
01:18 Observe that waypoints are created on the Time track panel.
01:23 Click and drag the Time cursor between the 2 waypoints and check the rotation of the wheel.
01:29 Save the file by pressing Ctrl + S.
01:33 Let us now create a time loop for this rotation effect.
01:37 Right-click on Rotate effect layer and click on New layer.
01:42 Then click on Other and on Time Loop.
01:48 In the Parameters panel, tick the checkbox of Only For Positive Duration.
01:55 Next, let us add the Rotate & Time Loop effects to all the wheels.
02:00 So, select both the effect layers using the Shift key.
02:05 And press Ctrl and C keys to copy the layers.
02:09 Now, click on the Wheel-1 group layer.
02:13 Press Ctrl and V keys to paste the layers.
02:17 Repeat the same process for all the wheels.
02:24 Now the rotation effect has been applied to all the wheels of the toy train.
02:29 Save the file once again by pressing Ctrl + S.
02:34 Let us now animate the train.
02:37 Select all the group layers except Rail.
02:41 Group them together and rename the group layer as Train.
02:47 Make sure that the Time cursor is in the zeroth frame.
02:52 Using Shift key, drag the train outside the canvas to the right.
02:57 Move the Time cursor to the 100th frame.
03:01 Using Shift key, drag the train to the left side outside the canvas.
03:07 Click on Turn off animate editing mode icon.
03:11 Save the file by pressing Ctrl + S.
03:15 Let us now render the animation.
03:18 For this, go to File and click on Render.
03:22 In the File name field, change the extension to avi and change the Target to ffmpeg.
03:31 Increase the quality to 9 and click on the Render button.
03:36 Now go to Desktop. Right click on the avi file and play using Firefox web browser.
03:43 We can now see the Toy train animation.
03:47 With this, we have come to the end of this tutorial.
03:50 Let us summarize. In this tutorial, we learnt to animate a Toy train.
03:56 Here is an assignment for you-animate the bus created in an earlier assignment by following the steps shown in this tutorial.
