Let’s create a geometry chart which shows a 2D shape and

For example,

  • a square is a 2D object
  • a cube is its 3D form
Switch to a Draw file named as
3DObjectsChart.
We have a new Draw file here named as 3DObjectsChart.
Before we begin the drawing, let’s enable the grids and the guidelines.


We have learnt about this in previous tutorials.

Click on View >> Grid >> Display Grid

Click on View >> Guides >> Display Guides.

From the Main menu, click on View, select Grid and Display Grid.


Then again click on View, select Guides and Display Guides.

Point to the Ruler I want to set both the rulers to centimeters.
Place the mouse pointer >> horizontal ruler. Right-click >> Select Centimeters. Place the mouse pointer on the horizontal ruler.

Let us enable the 3D toolbars.
From the Main menu >> click on View >> select Toolbars >> select 3D-Objects. From the Main menu, click on View, select Toolbars and 3D-Objects.
Click on View >> Select Toolbars >> 3D-settings. Again click on View, select Toolbars and 3D-settings.

Create 3D objects by Extrusion

The method of obtaining a 3D object using a 2D object is called Extrusion.


Basically, the surface is moved outward, to create the 3D object.

Select rectangle >> color it Turquoise 1 First, let us change the colour of the rectangle to Turquoise 1
Use the CTRL+C keys and create a copy of the rectangle. Press the CTRL+V keys to paste it.

Let’s make a copy of the rectangle.

Drag the copied rectangle and
place it on right half of the page.
Let’s drag the copied rectangle and place it on right half of the page.
Select the copied rectangle and

right-click to view the context menu.

Now, while it is still selected, right-click to view the context menu.
Click on Convert >> Select To 3D Now click on Convert and select To 3D.
The 2D rectangle is converted to a cuboid.
Double click on the box rectangle and
Type the name as Rectangle

Let’s type “Rectangle” inside the rectangle shape.
Double click on the right side 3D rectangle box However, we cannot type text inside 3D objects.
To type text, we need to use the Text tool.
Click on the Text tool >>
Draw a text box inside the Cuboid
Click on the Text tool and draw a Text box inside the cuboid.
Type the text Cuboid inside it. Type the text "Cuboid" inside it.
Select the text box and the Cuboid.

right click and click on Group

The Text box and the cuboid are treated as two separate objects.


Therefore, let’s group them.

Select the Square >> colour Turquoise 1 >> right click >> select 3D objects

Select the Circle >> >> colour Turquoise 1 >> right click >> select 3D objects
Select the Triangle >> >> colour Turquoise 1 >> right click >> select 3D objects

Similarly, we can colour and convert the Square, Circle and Triangle into 3D objects.

Go to the drawing toolbar and point to the Fontwork Gallery icon >> then click on it. Click on the Fontwork Gallery icon on the Drawing toolbar at the bottom.
Select Favorite 16 >> click on OK. Let us select Favorite 16 and click on the OK button.
Point to the text Fontwork The text "Fontwork" is displayed on our Draw page.

So let us select it and right-click for the context menu.

Now select 3D Effects.

Point to Geometry, Segments, Normals You can see various options here.
Change Depth to 3cm. For demo purpose, let us change Depth parameter to 3cm.

Let us create an effect using Duplication on the 2D rectangle.
From the Main menu select Edit >> click Duplicate. From the Main menu, select Edit and click Duplicate.
The Duplicate dialog box appears. The Duplicate dialog box appears.
Enter the following values -
  • Number of copies = 10

Under Placement

  • X Axis = .10
  • Y Axis = .20
  • Angle = 0 degrees
Let us enter the following values -
  • Number of copies = 10

Under Placement

  • X Axis = .10
  • Y Axis = .20
  • Angle = 0 degrees
Point to Enlargement

Width = .20 Height = .30 Start color = Yellow End color = Red

We will keep the Enlargement Width and Height as default

We will change the Start color to Yellow End color to Red

Click OK. Click OK.
Point to the special effects. Look at the great special effects that we got!
