00:01 Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on Article Options in Joomla.
00:06 In this tutorial, we will learn about: Status of an article, Publishing Options for an article and

Global Options for Articles

00:17 For this tutorial, I will be using:Ubuntu 14.04, Joomla 3.4.1, Apache, MySQL and PHP obtained through XAMPP 5.5.19
00:34 To follow this tutorial: Ensure that you know how to create articles in Joomla. If not, check the relevant Joomla tutorials on the Spoken Tutorial website.
00:46 Earlier, we learnt to create, edit, copy and delete an article in Joomla.
00:53 Now, let’s learn some other options for these articles.
00:57 Let’s switch to the Joomla Control Panel .
01:00 Click on Article Manager.
01:03 Here are our previously created articles: “Benefits of Sodium” and “Vitamin A”
01:10 Let us check if they are visible on the homepage.
01:14 Click on Digital India at the top right of the page.

01:22 You can see “Benefits of Sodium” here but not “Vitamin A”. Why is this so? This is because we had made “Benefits of Sodium” a featured article.
01:33 Let us now make the article “Vitamin A” also as featured.
01:38 Go back to Article Manager page.
01:42 Click the Featured attribute, i.e, the star in the featured column, for the article “Vitamin A”.
01:49 Let me undo this change by clicking on the Featured attribute once again.
01:54 We can also feature an article by: checking the checkbox in the first column to the left of the article title
02:01 And then clicking on Featured button in the top menu.
02:05 Notice that the yellow star has appeared in the featured column.
02:09 Now, switch to the Digital India homepage tab and press F5 to refresh it.
02:15 We can see that both the articles are visible now.
02:19 Let us get back to the Article Manager page.
02:22 We will now learn a few more Article attributes.

02:26 Click on the article “Vitamin A” to reach the Edit Article page.
02:31 Here is a field named Status. What does it indicate?31
02:36 Whenever an article is created, the status takes the default value “Published”.
02:42 A featured article is displayed on a website because its status is Published.
02:48 So are our two articles, as of now.
02:51 What happens if the status of an article to Unpublished?
02:56 Switch back to the Article Manager page.
02:59 We are in the Edit Article of “Vitamin A”.
03:02 Let us change the status of our article “Vitamin A” to Unpublished.
03:07 Click on the Save & Close button.
03:10 Switch to the Digital India web page and refresh the page.
03:14 Notice that the article “Vitamin A” is no longer visible here.

03:19 Switch to the article manager page again.
03:23 Let us learn about the third value of Status, i.e. Archived.
03:28 For a change, let's now modify the status of “Benefits of Sodium” to Archived.
03:34 Click on the title “Benefits of Sodium”.
03:38 Now click on the Status drop-down and set the Status to Archived.
03:43 Click on save and close button.
03:46 Come back to the Article Manager.
03:49 “Benefits of Sodium” has now been removed from the Articles list of Article Manager.
03:55 Verify that it is also no longer displayed on the homepage, either.
04:00 So where has the article gone?
04:02 Come back to the Article Manager.
04:05 To view archived articles, we will need to use a filter.

04:10 To the right of search box, we can see Search Tools button.
04:15 Click on it. It will show a number of search filters.
04:20 Click on the Select Status filter.
04:23 Let's set the filter to Archived.
04:26 Now we can see our article “Benefits of Sodium” listed here.
04:31 An article when archived becomes a part of the historical data.
04:36 You can re-publish it whenever required.
04:40 The status of an archived article can be directly set to Unpublished or Published, as well.
04:47 To do so, first hover the mouse over the Status column, as shown.
04:52 You can see a small tooltip here, which says “Unpublish Item”.
04:57 Click on the left icon in the Status column.
05:00 Notice that we cannot see the article now.
05:00 This is because the Status filter is still set to Archived.

05:09 Let’s remove the filter by clicking on the Clear button next to Search Tools.
05:15 We can now see the article “Benefits of Sodium” listed here.
05:20 Notice that the status icon has now changed.
05:24 The newly acquired status indicates that the article is now ready for publishing.
05:30 In a similar manner, you can get the list of Published, Unpublished and Trashed articles.
05:37 Let me first change the status of the article “Benefits of Sodium” back to Archived.
05:43 Click on the checkbox to the left of the title.
05:46 Now click on the Archive button in the toolbar on top.
05:51 A misset appears which says the article has been archived
05:56 An Archived or Unpublished article can still be viewed and edited in the Article Manager.
06:03 Let’s change the status filter back to Archived.
06:07 Click on the archived article “Benefits of Sodium”.

06:11 Let’s append this sentence at the end of given text.
06:15 “The daily consumption of sodium, however, depends on a number of factors.”
06:21 I will change the status of this article from Archived to Published.
06:26 Then click on Save & Close.
06:29 Let us now select All in Select Status filter.
06:34 This will show all the articles, irrespective of their status.
06:39 Notice the status of all the articles here.
06:42 Also notice the article “Sodium” that we had deleted or trashed in the earlier tutorial.
06:49 Explore whether you can change its status on your own.
06:53 The other available filters here are Category, Levels, Access, Author, Language and Tag.
