00:00 Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on “Design a CD label” using Inkscape.
00:06 In this tutorial, we will learn to-
00:09 * Create a CD label template
00:11 * Design a CD label
00:13 * Save the file as PNG.
00:16 To record this tutorial, I am using-
00:18 Ubuntu Linux 12.04 OS
00:21 Inkscape version 0.48.4
00:25 Let us open Inkscape.
00:27 Click on File and then on Document properties.
00:32 Change the Width and Height parameters to 425 pixels.
00:37 Close the dialog box.
00:40 Create a square using the Rectangle tool. Color it red.
00:45 Click on the selector tool.
00:47 On the Tool controls bar, change the Width and Height parameters to 425.
00:54 Next, draw a circle using the Ellipse tool.
00:58 Once again, click on the selector tool.
01:01 On the Tool controls bar, change the Width and Height parameters to 425.
01:07 Select both the circle and the square.
01:11 Go to Object menu.
01:13 Click on Align and Distribute.
01:16 Set the Relative to option to Page.
01:19 Align the objects in the centre.
01:22 Go to Path menu. Select Difference.
01:26 Now draw another circle.
01:28 Once again, click on the selector tool.
01:31 Change the height and width parameters to 85.
01:35 Align it to the centre of the page using Align and Distribute.
01:41 Select both the shapes.
01:44 Since this is the template, we will change the color to White.
01:49 So, it may not be visible now.
01:51 Go to Layer menu and click on Layers.
01:55 Change the name of the current layer to CD template.
02:00 Lock the layer to avoid the movement of the elements in the layer, by mistake.
02:05 Now, let us create another layer and name it as CD design.
02:10 Place it below the CD template layer.
02:13 Now our CD template is ready.
02:16 We can use this for creating various CDs in the future.
02:20 Let us save our SVG file.
02:23 Go to File and click on Save As.
02:26 I will save it on the Desktop.
02:29 I will type the Filename as CD template and click on Save.
02:35 Now we will work on the CD design layer.
02:39 Let us design a background.
02:41 For this, draw a square using the Rectangle tool.
02:46 Since the color is white, it may not be visible.
02:49 Change the color to light blue.
02:52 Click on the selector tool.
02:56 Then change the Width and Height parameters to 425.
03:01 Align it to the centre.
03:03 Now we can see the background color within the boundaries.
03:08 Let us now design a graphic illustration.
03:11 Draw a gradient green.
03:14 Select the Bezier tool and draw a curvy illustration.
03:19 Next, let us import the Spoken tutorial logo.
03:23 The logo has been provided in the Code files link.
03:27 Go to File and click on Import.
03:32 Resize the logo and place it on the top of the illustration.
03:37 Type Spoken Tutorial to the right of the logo.
03:41 Change the font size to 20.
03:44 Type “Partner with us...help bridge the digital divide” on the next line.
03:51 Change the font size to 8.
03:54 I will type the contact details at the bottom of the CD label.
03:59 Let me copy the contact details from a LibreOffice Writer file that I had saved earlier.
04:05 Now paste this in the bottom area.
04:08 Make Contact us Bold and align it in centre.
04:13 Change the text color to blue.
04:16 Next, we will add some images on the right of the CD label.
04:21 I have already made an image collage and saved it in my Documents folder.
04:26 The same image has been provided in your Code Files link.
04:30 Please check the folder in which you saved it.
04:34 Now click on File then on Import and lastly select Image1.
04:40 Now the image is imported here. Resize the image.
04:48 I will place it on the right side of the CD label.
04:51 Let us save the SVG file by clicking on File and Save As.
04:57 I will type the Filename as ST CD label and click on Save.
05:03 Now our CD label is ready.
05:06 Let us learn how to export the file in PNG format.
05:10 Go to File and click on Export Bitmap.
05:14 A new dialog box will appear.
05:16 Click on Page tab under Export area.
05:21 Under Bitmap size change the dpi to 300.
05:26 Then click on the Browse button.
05:29 I will choose Desktop as the location to save the file.
05:33 And I will type the filename as ST-CD-label and click on Save.
