00:01 Hello everyone.Welcome to this tutorial on Introduction to ExpEYES Junior.
00:07 In this tutorial, we will learn:
  • About ExpEYES Junior device
  • Features
  • How to buy the device
  • Installation of the software on different operating systems.

  • Connect the device to the system and
  • Demonstrate a simple experiment.

  • ExpEYES version 3.1.0
  • Ubuntu Linux OS version. 14.04

  • Firefox browser version 35.0.1
00:45 To follow this tutorial, you should have
  • Knowledge of basic high school Physics.
00:51 Let's first see what is ExpEYES.
  • ExpEYES stands for Experiments for Young Engineers and Scientists.
  • It is used to perform basic Physics and Electronics experiments.
01:06 ExpEYES Junior device looks like this.
  • It is a small compact rectangular box with dimensions 8.6x5.8x1.6 cm cube (cm3).
  • It weighs around 60g.
01:24 Device can be connected to the system through USB port.
01:28 Here is a list of some important features of ExpEYES Junior.
01:33 The device can measure voltages, generate plots and waveforms.
  • It is low cost and gives accurate measurements.
  • The device has built-in Signal Generator and Oscilloscope.

  • It has Microsecond timing resolution.
  • Software is available on Bootable ISO image.

02:03 Open Firefox web browser, in the address bar type, http://expeyes.in/hardware-availability and press Enter.

02:22 Let's learn about the availability of the Software on different operating systems.
02:28 * The software of ExpEYES Junior is coded in Python language.
  • It is free and open source.
  • It is distributed under GNU General Public License.

  • GNU/Linux,
  • Netbook,
  • Android and
  • Windows.
02:48 To begin with, let's install on Ubuntu Linux OS.
02:52 We can install the Software directly from Ubuntu Software Center.
02:57 Alternately, open Firefox web browser.In the address bar, type: http://expeyes.in
03:08 On the page, click on SOFTWARE tab.

Software Installation page opens.

03:15 Click on link expeyes.deb

Save File dialogue box opens, select Save File and click on OK.

03:26 Click on the downloaded file.
03:29 File opens in Ubuntu Software Centre.Click on Install button.
03:35 Authenticate dialogue box appears.Type the system password and click on Authenticate button.
03:42 Installation may take a few minutes.
03:45 To open the Software interface,Click on Dash Home.In the search bar type expeyes junior.
03:54 ExpEYES Junior icon appears. Click on it, to open the interface.
04:00 Let's install the Software on Netbook.
04:03 ExpEYES Junior software can be installed on Netbook using Lubuntu Software Center.
04:10 Right click on Software Center icon. Select Open.Lubuntu Software Center window opens.
04:19 In Search a package box, type expeyes. Expeyes icon appears. Select the icon.
04:28 On the Status bar, click on Add to the Apps Basket button.
04:33 On the Menu bar, click on Apps Basket button. Apps Basket window opens.
04:41 From the Package list, select Expeyes. Click on Install Packages button.
04:48 Authenticate dialogue box appears.Type the system password and click on Authenticate button.
04:56 Installing packages dialogue box appears.The installation take a few minutes.
05:03 Connect the device to the netbook using USB cable.
05:08 To open the software interface in Netbook, click on Start button. Navigate to Education.
05:15 Select ExpEYES Junior.Software interface opens.
05:21 Let's install the Software on Android.
05:25 Please ensure that Wi Fi or Data pack is available on your Android device.
05:31 ExpEYES Junior device can be connected through OTG cable to your mobile.
05:38 Click on Home button on your mobile. Navigate to Google Play Store.
05:44 Click on APPS.APPS page opens.
05:48 Click on magnifying glass on the top right corner.
05:53 Type expeyes, click on ExpEYES. Click on INSTALL.
05:59 Accept the license agreement.Downloading starts.
06:05 After downloading, click on OPEN.
06:09 ExpEYES Experiments dialogue box opens.
06:12 Click on the check box, Use by default for this USB device.
06:17 Click on OK.Interface opens.
06:21 Let us learn to install the software on Windows Operating System.
06:27 Open your default web browser.In the address bar, type the URL expeyes.in and press Enter.

ExpEYES page opens.

06:40 Click on SOFTWARE tab. Scroll down to MS Windows.
06:45 For Windows installation, we need to install Python interpreter and required libraries.
06:52 Download and install the following drivers and files: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM20814_Setup.exe
06:57 I have already downloaded all the files in my Downloads library.
07:02 Right click on expeyes-3.0.0 zip file and click on Extract Here option. The file is extracted.
07:14 Double click on expeyes-3.0.0 folder.
07:21 Double click on eyes-junior folder. A list of files open.
07:27 Navigate to croplus file.Right click and select Properties.croplus Properties window opens.
07:36 Click on Change button. Select Python, then click OK.
07:44 Click OK in the Properties window.Double click croplus file.
07:51 You can see that Python exe file is running.Software interface opens.
07:59 Please note, while installing the Software on Windows 8/8.1, enable unsigned driver installation in settings.
08:10 We can connect the device to the system through USB port.Once connected, the software interface opens.
08:19 Now, I will show a basic experiment using the device and interface.
08:25 In this experiment we will measure and compare the voltages of external and internal sources.
08:33 To show the experiment, we require a battery as external source of voltage.Voltage of the battery is “3V”.
08:44 For this experiment, Ground(GND) terminal and A1 terminal are connected to the battery.
08:50 On the interface, click on A1 to show the voltage across A1 terminal.The displayed voltage is “+3.15V”.
09:00 On reversing the connection, the voltage is “-3.14V”
09:06 In the place of the battery, we can use PVS as internal source of voltage.For this experiment, A1 is connected to PVS.
09:17 On the right side of the interface,Set PVS value= 3V and press enter.The displayed voltage of PVS is 3.001V.
09:31 On the top left corner, click on A1.The displayed voltage of A1 is “3.008V”.
