  • 1.Free voluntary Labour (Shramdan)

  • 3.Ban on Tree-cutting (kurhad bandi)
  • 4.Ban on liquor (Nasha Bandi)

Pic 11

ShramDan
  • People started working together for community welfare. Villagers developed a work culture

Pic 12

* They came together to construct check dams near the hill to reduce water flow speed.
  • Check dams helped in increasing the ground water table and reduce soil erosion

Show Slide Title: Charai bandi

Pic 13

CharaiBandi

Overgrazing of cattle was banned.

Pic 14 Overgrazing leads to desertification (land degradation) and soil erosion.

Pic 15 Ban on grazing increased the production of grasses from 200 tonnes in 1994-95 to more than 5000-6000 tonnes in 2001-2002

Pic 16

Kurhad Bandi
  • Cutting of trees was banned.
  • Trees help in preventing soil erosion

Pic 17 * Soil erosion causes degradation of land and hence less farm produce.
  • Trees slow down rain water and helps in increasing groundwater level.
  • Tree wastes are useful in increasing soil fertility.

Pic 18

Nasha Bandi
  • 22 liquor shops were closed.
  • Consumption of liquor and tobacco was completely banned.
  • Gram Sabha tied up with the bank to provide loans to those who had liquor shops.
  • Crime rate reduced .
  • People got involved in more productive work which helped the community.

Pic 19

Kutumb Niyojan
  • A strict one child per family rule was imposed.
  • Birth rate has been reduced to 11 per thousand
  • It helps prevent pregnancy related health risks in women.
  • Family Planning also reduces infant mortality.
  • It helps empower people and enhance family education.
  • Family Planning is the key to creating a sustainable community.
