To follow this tutorial, ensure you have:

  • Moodle 4.5 installed and
  • Admin access to your Moodle site
Here are the prerequisites to learn this video.
Login as admin We will log in as the Admin user.
Click on Home Moodle Home Page (Admin login) Let us begin with the layout of the Front page of Moodle.

Click on Home.

Screen: Moodle Home Page (Admin login) The Front page is the first thing users see when they access your Moodle site.

It provides navigation and general site information.

Point to the top bar >> Site administration >> Point to General >> Scroll down and point to Site Home >> Point to Site home settings >> click on it From the top menu-bar, click on Site administration.

Under General, scroll down to Site home, Site home settings.

Site home settings form Here, we can customize what logged in users and non-logged in users see.
Point to the "Full site name" and "Short name" fields

Type "Full site name" as “Edupyramids by Spoken Tutorial”

Type "Short name" as “Edupyramids”

First, enter the Full site name and a Short name.

These names will appear in the browser tab.

Show “Front page” dropdown options

Select List of courses, Announcements, Course search box

Next, choose what should appear on the Site home i.e. the Front page before login.

You can display List of courses, Announcements, Course search box or None.

Show "Front page dropdown options when logged in"

Select Announcements, List of courses, Enrolled courses, Course search box

Similarly, select what appears after login.

You can display Announcements, List of Courses, Enrolled courses, Course search box or None.

Show "Add custom content" checkbox If you check Add custom content, you can add custom content or welcome messages at the top of the Front page.
Scroll and show “Default site home role” Scroll down to the Default site home role.

Here, you can choose the default role assigned to users when they visit the Front page.

By default, this is set to Authenticated user on site home.

Scroll to bottom and click “Save changes” After making all the changes, click Save changes.
Show updated Front page view Point to the full site name and the short name next to Home Point to the URL name also Scroll down also to show the page Now click on Home.

Your Moodle Front page is now configured as per your inputs.

You can revisit these settings anytime for more changes.

Logout I’ll log out now to show the Front page without login.
Login >> click on Home Login once again and click on Home.
Turn Edit Mode slider ON Turn Edit Mode on.
Click gear icon Click on the gear icon below Home.

Edit section settings page opens.

Type “Introduction” In the Section name field, type “Introduction”.
Type "Welcome to Edupyramids Moodle portal!" In the Description field, type a suitable introductory text for your portal.
Click on Save Changes. Click on Save Changes.
View these changes on the Front page.
Logout You can also logout and view the changes.
So, that’s a quick overview of the Front Page!
