Show Web Browser and type: | To view the OPAC, open a Web Browser and type this url |
Point to the URL. | This URL is based on the port number and domain name given at the time of installation. |
Please type as per what you had mentioned.
And press Enter. | |
Show Opac homepage
Welcome to Spoken Tutorial Library |
This will open the OPAC homepage
I will open the Spoken Tutorial Library OPAC page. For this, click on the libraries tab Locate the Spoken Tutorial Library. To open this library, click on it. The Spoken Tutorial Library OPAC page opens. |
Cursor on left side Library catalog | On the top left side we have the Library catalog, drop down.
From here we can search books by the following options: |
Show dropdown options: Title, Author , Subject, ISBN , Series and Call number. | Title, Author, Subject, ISBN, Series and Call number. |
Show search field Microbiology
Click on Search icon |
In the right side field I will type Microbiology.
Click on the Search icon at the right side of the field. |
Your search returned 3 results page | All the Library items having the word Microbiology, are listed in the results. |
Narration only | The listed items with the search word, can be further sorted as per the user’s choice. |
Cursor on Relevance tab | To do so, go to the right side of the list and click on the tab Relevance. |
From dropdown select Author (A-Z). | From the drop-down, I will select Author (A-Z). |
Narration only | You may choose any other relevant option as per your requirement. |
Show Author (A-Z), a list of Authors. | Upon selecting Author (A-Z) a list of Authors is displayed in alphabetical order. |
Highlight Availability field | Look below the title of the listed items.
Here, we can see the availability of that particular item across the libraries. |
Narration only | So, how can we improve our search for even better results? |
Cursor on Refine Your Search | We can do so by clicking on the Refine Your Search tab on the extreme left. |
Highlight Availability, Authors, Item Types and Topics | Then go to the various tabs under sections like: Availability, Authors, Item Types and Topics. |
Narration only | Now, let us see what to do in case the required material is not found with a general search. |
Cursor on Advanced Search | On the Search Catalog page, click on the link Advanced Search. |
Page with the title Advanced Search opens | A new page with the title Advanced Search opens up. |
Narration only | Using the multiple drop-down options, we can refine our search for our required material. |
From the first drop-down on the left side Show such Options
Keyword, Subject , Title , Author , Publisher, Publisher Location, ISBN and Barcode. |
From the first drop-down on the left side, select the appropriate option such as:
Keyword, Subject, Title, Author, Publisher, Publisher Location, ISBN and Barcode. |
From Keyword drop-down and Select Subject | I will select Subject.
And in the right side field, type the details of the option selected from the left side drop-down. |
In Subject field type Microbiology | I will type Microbiology here. |
From the second drop-down option select Author as Patel. | Using the second drop-down option, I will select Author as Patel. |
From the third drop-down option select Publisher as Pearson | Using the third drop-down option, I will select Publisher as Pearson. |
Point the cursor to Item Type- | On the same page, notice the other options under the section Item Type- |
Point the cursor to options Books, Reference. | Books, Reference. |
Scroll down and Point the cursor to following options | Followed by options such as- Location and availability, Sort by, Publication date range and Language. |
under the section Item Type.
Click on the option Books |
So, under the section Item Type, I will click on the button for Books. |
leave the Publication date blank | I will leave the Publication date range as blank. |
Go to Sort by and click on drop down and select Author (A-Z). | Under the section Sorting, for Sort by: I will click on the drop down and select Author (A-Z). |
Go to Language and select English | For the Language, select English from the drop-down. |
Click on Search button | After filling all the details, click on Search at the bottom of the page. |
Point the cursor to Microbiology | This page will have a list of all items having the following:
Subject as Microbiology, |
Point the cursor to Patel Arvind H. | Author as Patel Arvind H., |
Point the cursor to Pearson | Publisher as Pearson. |
Go to Advanced Search page | Now, let’s go back to the Advanced Search page and click on More Options button at the bottom of the section Search for: |
On doing so, the layout of the Advanced search page changes. | |
Go to first dropdown and select Subject | Once again, in the first drop-down, I will select Subject. |
Type Microbiology. | Then I will type Microbiology. |
Go to the second row of option. | Now come to the second row of options. |
Point the cursor to and | In the first drop-down, I will keep the option and as it is. |
Select Author | And, in the drop-down to the right, I will select Author. |
Type Patel | Then to the right of this, I will type Patel. |
From the first drop-down, select the option or. | Next, come to the third row of options.
In the first drop-down, I will select the option or. |
From drop-down to the right,select Author. | And, in the drop-down to the right, I will select Author. |
Type Volodymyr | Then to the right side of this, I will type Volodymyr |
Narration only | If required, you can further expand the search using the search options under the section Item type or the rest of the options. |
Click on the Search Button | After filling in all the details, click on the Search button at the bottom of the section. |
Narration | This is how we can search for items in the library using OPAC. |
