To follow this tutorial, you should have
  • Koha installed on your system and
  • Admin access in Koha.

If not, refer to the Koha Installation tutorial on this site. Also, you should have knowledge of Library Science.

As an activity pause and create a Patron Category as Post graduate student under the Spoken Tutorial Library. Hint Administration> Patrons and circulation >Patron categories>+ New category> Post graduate student

Let us start by defining the Circulation and Fine Rules for Patron category.

As an activity pause and create a Patron Category as Post graduate student under the Spoken Tutorial Library. Recall, it has been explained in an earlier tutorial in this series. We will be using this information later in this tutorial. Resume the tutorial once the Patron category is created.

Login to Koha with Username as Bella and Password as Library@1. Show superlogin png

Let us switch to the Koha interface.

I will login as a superlibrarian.

Show Koha staff Interface The Koha staff interface opens.
Click on Koha administration Click on the Koha administration module.
Koha administration page The Koha administration page opens.
On new page, Patrons and circulation>>Circulation and fines rules. Scroll down to Patrons and circulation section and click on Circulation and fine rules.
Cursor on Defining circulation and fine rules for all libraries Defining circulation and fine rules for all libraries opens.
Locate Select a library >> select Standard rules for all libraries. Locate, Select a library and from the drop-down select Standard rules for all libraries if not

selected by default.

Under the section Patron category, >> select Post graduate student Now scroll down and locate Patron category column, from the drop-down, click on Post graduate

student

Under the section Item type>> click Books Under the section Item type, from the drop-down click on Books.
Current checkouts allowed >> enter 5 In the field- Current checkouts allowed enter 5.
Point to Current on-site checkouts allowed I will leave Current on-site checkouts allowed, as it is.
Loan period>> 30 Enter 30 for Loan period
Point to For Unit I will leave, For Unit, as it is i.e. Days
Point to Hard due date Leave Hard due date, as it is
Fine amount >>5 Enter Fine amount as 5
Fine charging interval >> 1 And Enter 1 for Fine charging interval
Point to When to charge I will leave When to charge as it is.
Point to Fine/suspension grace period: I will leave the Fine/suspension grace period: blank.
Point to Overdue fines cap (amount):

Point to Cap fine at replacement price:

I will also leave Overdue fines cap (amount): and

Cap fine at replacement price: blank.

Point to Suspension in days (day) : I will also leave Suspension in days (day) : blank.
Point to Suspension charging interval For Suspension charging interval enter 1.
Renewals allowed (count) >> 4 Enter 4 for Renewals allowed (count).
Point to Renewal period: I will leave the Renewal period: blank.
Point to No renewal before: For No renewal before, I will leave it blank.
Point to Automatic renewal For Automatic renewal, I will leave as it is.
Holds allowed (total) >> For Holds allowed (total), I will leave as it is.
For On shelf holds allowed >> select If all unavailable. For On shelf holds allowed, from the drop down, select If all unavailable.
Point to OPAC item level holds I will leave OPAC item level holds as it is.
Point to Rental discount(%) Leave Rental discount blank.
Cursor on Actions

Click on Save

Next, go to the Actions column at the extreme right of the table and click on Save.

This brings us back to Defining circulation and fine rules for all libraries page.

This page contains all the entries that we just filled.

Clone these rules to: >> select Spoken Tutorial Library >> click on Clone. Now, go to Select a library and from the drop down select Standard rules for all libraries if not

selected by default. Locate Clone these rules to and from the dropdown select Spoken Tutorial Library, if not selected by default. Next, click on the button named Clone.
