0:34 To record this tutorial, I am using
0:36 Windows 11 OS and FreeCAD version 0.21.1
0:46 To follow this tutorial,
0:48 Learners must be familiar with the FreeCAD interface.
0:53 For pre-requisite tutorials, please visit this site.
0:57 I have opened the FreeCAD interface.
01:01 To create a new exercise, click on File, New.
01:06 The Workbench option on the top shows start.
01:11 In the menu option on top, select Draft workbench.
01:16 The interface menu options change.
01:20 Go to View then Toolbars in the menu.
01:24 Make sure that all the tool bar options are enabled in the list.
01:30 If any option is not enabled click on the left side to enable it as seen.
01:37 Macro option allows the user to write and install own features.
01:43 All menu buttons may not be seen on the top as in the video.
01:49 If so, drag and rearrange them to make them visible for future use.
01:56 Now click on Edit, Preferences.
02:01 Preferences window opens.
02:04 Go to the General tab.
02:06 Ensure that the styles are appropriately selected .
02:11 Now choose the units tab.
02:14 From here you can change the unit system that you desire.
02:20 For the unit system, I will choose Standard.
02:24 I will keep the number of decimals as 2.
02:28 You may change this later on.
02:31 Next, click on the Draft option on the left side panel.
02:36 In the General setting tab, make sure the default working plane is selected.
02:43 I will select XY top.
02:46 We can also select this view using the gizmo on the interface as seen here.
02:53 Internal precision level can be changed based on user preference.
02:59 I will leave it as is for now.
03:02 Now go to Grid and snapping tab.
03:06 I will uncheck the Grid options as seen here for ease of drawing later on.
03:13 Click on Apply to accept the changes and then on OK to close the window.
03:20 Now click on View, then on Panels.
03:24 Make sure Report View and Combo view are checked or selected.
03:30 Stepwise procedure and any bugs will be shown here by FreeCAD.
03:36 Model shows the tools used during drawing.
03:41 The Property View window shows the properties of the object that can be changed.
03:48 Click on the cube or the gizmo icon as seen.
03:53 The drop down prompts the user to make 2D, 3D or another selection.
04:00 Select orthographic or isometric as desired.
04:05 Orthographic gives 2D drawing and isometric is projection of 3D drawing.

04:16 I will also select the top view.
04:20 These can also be accessed from the View menu on the top.
04:25 First click on the Snap ortho tool.

04:39 Snap tools aid the user in selecting specific points on an object.
04:45 They can be start point, end point, mid point, intersection or perpendicular.
04:52 Make sure that the Lock icon is disabled.
04:56 Now the Report view panel prompts the user to pick the first point.
05:02 The options in the Draft creation tools can be used to choose Line.
05:08 Notice the changes on the panels on the left side when we click on the line tool.
05:15 Left click on the canvas, hold and drag to draw a line as desired.
05:21 Click again to end the line.
05:24 You can change the length of the line from the task tab in the Combo View panel.
05:32 At this time notice the coordinates on Combo View changes.
05:38 Since this is a horizontal line, only x coordinate changes.
05:43 The exact dimension of the line can also be specified here.
05:49 You may pause the video and do the following.
05:53 Add another line by giving x coordinate dimension as 100 mm.
06:00 Notice a blue small + sign, which indicates that the snap ortho is on.
06:08 It aids in drawing a horizontal or vertical line.
06:12 Let’s draw another line which will snap to the end of the first line.
06:18 Next enable the Endpoint and Midpoint icons in snap tools.
06:24 Now place the cursor close to the end of the first line.
06:28 Notice the white dot at the end of the line.
06:33 Now the snap tool will snap the new line to this point.
06:39 To save the file, click on File, Save.
06:44 Now the two line objects can be seen in the list.
06:48 To select an object click on it and notice the green outline.
06:53 We can also select an object from the Combo View.
06:58 Next, we will use Draft modification tools.
07:02 To move the object, first click on the 4 direction arrow.
07:07 Many parameters can be tracked during the move in the combo view panel.
07:13 First click on the object and move the mouse to the new location.
07:19 Left click again to the desired location, to move the object.
07:24 To make a copy of an object, first select it.
07:30 Click on the check box for Copy.
07:33 Notice the duplicated object name appears on the combo view panel.
07:39 The new object is superimposed on the parent and is indistinguishable.
