Right-click on the Pages pane and select New Page. | Let us add a new page to the RouteMap file.
Right-click on the Pages pane and select New Page. |
Only narration | In the previous tutorials, we had briefly used grids.
Now let us learn about grids in detail. |
Click on the Display grid icon in the Standard toolbar | Click on the Display grid icon on the Standard toolbar. |
From the Main menu >>
select View >> click on Grid and Helplines. |
Alternatively, click on the View menu and select Grid and Helplines. |
From the submenu select the Display Grid option. | From the submenu, select Display Grid option. |
Use the mouse to point to the small grids. | The Draw page gets filled with a number of horizontal and vertical dotted lines.
These form the grid. |
Use the mouse to point to the small grids. | These grids are for display and positioning purposes only.
They will not be printed. |
Point to any grid. | You can customize the size of the grids as per your requirements. |
Main menu >>
select Tools >> click Options |
To do so, from the Main menu, select Tools and click Options. |
Options dialog box appears. | The Options dialog box opens. |
Select LibreOffice Draw >> select Grid | Click LibreOffice Draw and select Grid. |
Click Resolution.
(default value Horizontal – 1 cm Vertical – 1 cm) Under Resolution enter the following values: Horizontal – 5 cm Vertical – 5 cm |
Under Resolution let us change the values as follows.

Point to Subdivision. | Subdivision decides the number of spaces in a grid. |
Under Subdivision enter the following values
default values Horizontal – 3 Vertical – 4 Screenshot from windows. |
Let us leave the Subdivision values as default.
Horizontal 3 Vertical 4.

Synchronize axes >>
Leave this option unchecked.
|
Let us leave the Synchronize axes option unchecked.
Then on the OK button at the bottom right of the dialog box. |
Move to the Draw page
Move the mouse in a circular fashion so that it goes over a grid. |
Look at the Draw page now.
Look at the size of each box in the grid. |
Cursor on the Draw page. | Let us count the spaces that we set in Subdivision. |
Point to the Horizontal 1, 2, 3 spaces and vertical 1, 2, 3, 4 spaces. | Horizontally there are 1, 2, 3 spaces and vertically there are 1, 2, 3, 4 spaces.
Here too spaces may change in your system. |

Click on Helplines while moving icon. | Click on Helplines while moving icon on the Standard toolbar. |
Go to the Main menu >>
click View >> Grid and Helplines Helplines While Moving |
Alternatively, click on the View menu and select Grid and Helplines.
From the submenu, select the option Helplines While Moving. |
Point to the park. | Click on the Routemap slide.
Let us move the park a little to the right side. |
Select the park, move it a little to the right.
Wait so that the extension lines are visible. |
When park is moved, extension lines at the edges of the object become visible.

Now let’s see what Snap Lines are?

Go to the Draw page
Right-click for the context menu >> select Snap Guides

Go to the Draw page.
From the submenu select Display Snap Guides option. |
Point to route map | Let us enclose the objects in the map using the snap lines. |
Move the mouse cursor over the vertical (left) ruler. | On the Draw page, move the cursor over the vertical ruler. |
Press the left mouse button. | Press the left mouse button. |
Point to the changed cursor. | Observe that the cursor has changed to a two-sided arrow. |
Drag the mouse towards the Draw page. | Drag the cursor towards the Draw page.
Can you see a dashed line? This is a Snap Line. |
Do not let go of the mouse button. | Do not release the mouse button. |
Holding the left mouse button
>> drag the dashed line that appears on the page. Let go of the mouse button. |
Holding the left mouse button, drag the dashed line to the page.
Now, release the mouse button. |
Press the left mouse button on the vertical ruler.
Drag the mouse towards the Draw page. Drag the dashed line that appears on the page. |
Similarly, drag and drop another snap line at the right end of the map. |
Cursor on the Draw page. | Now let’s draw horizontal snap lines. |
Place the cursor on the top ruler >>
Press the left mouse button. |
Place the cursor on the top ruler and press the left mouse button. |
Drag the mouse cursor to the draw page.
Place the snap line on top of the map. |
After you see the two-sided arrow, drag the mouse cursor to the draw page.

Press the left mouse button on the top ruler.
Drag the mouse towards the Draw page. Drag the dotted line that appears on the page. |
Similarly, drag and drop another snap line at the bottom of the map. |
Point to all the snap lines. | Notice that we have enclosed the map using the snap lines. |
Drag and show one more snap line. | You can create as many Snap Lines as you want. |
Point to the horizontal and vertical Snap Lines function as x and y axes on the graph. | The horizontal and vertical Snap Lines function as x and y axes on a graph.
Within these two axes, you can position the objects exactly. |
Right-click on the vertical snap line.
From the submenu select Edit Snap Line. |
Now we will edit the drawn snap lines.
For this right-click on the vertical snap line. From the submenu select Edit Snap Line. |
Edit Snap Line dialog box opens.
Under Position, >> Change the X value. Click on the OK button. |
Edit Snap Line dialog box opens.
Under Position, we can change the X value. Notice that Y field is inactive in the dialog box. This is because we are changing the position in the X-direction. Click on the OK button. Notice the change in position of the line. |
Right-click on the horizontal.
From the submenu select Edit Snap Line. Change the position of the Y value and click the OK button. |
Similarly right-click on the horizontal snap line.
From the submenu select Edit Snap Line. Change the position of the Y value.
Click the OK button to update the changes. |
Right-click on the snap line.
From the submenu select Delete Snap Line to delete it. |
We can also delete the snap lines.
Right-click on the snap line. From the submenu select Delete Snap Line to delete it. |

Point to the objects. | Objects can be resized exactly to any measurement that is required. |
Point to Home. | Let’s use exact measurements and change the shape of Home. |
Right-click for context menu >>
Select Position and Size. |
Select Home and right-click for the context menu.
Select Position and Size option. |

Enter Width = 3, Height =3. | Under Size, enter the value 3 in both the Width and Height fields. |

Switch to the Draw file Route Map | Now let’s space the right edges of some objects evenly. |

Select Residential Complex, Parking Lot and Commercial Complex.
Press shift key down and click on each object. |

Right-click and select Distribution
Point to the Distribution dialog box. Under Horizontal >> Select Right. Click OK button. |
Now, right-click and select Distribution.
Distribution dialog box opens up. Under Horizontal, select Right radio button and click on the OK button. |
Point to the right edges of the object. | The right edges of the objects get evenly distributed. |

From the main menu click Format, >> select Line | From the Main menu select Format and click Line. |

Click Line Styles tab | Click on the Line Styles tab. |
In the Line Styles select 3 Dashes and 3 Dots. | In the Line Styles field, select the option 3 Dashes and 3 Dots. |
Leave the Type field as is. | Leave the Type field as it is. |
In Number enter 10 and 5; Length 8%. | In the Number field, let’s enter 10 and 5.
In Length field enter 8%. |
Click Add. | Click the Add button on the right side of the dialog box. |
Enter the name My Line Style >>
click OK. Click OK. |
Enter the name My Line Style and click on the OK button.
Again click the OK button at the bottom right of the dialog box. |
Select any direction arrow in the map, right-click and select Line | Let’s select this arrow, right-click, and select Line.
The Line dialog box appears. |
Click the Line tab. | Click on the Line tab. |
Click on the Style drop-down box.
Point to My Line Style. |
Then click on the Style drop-down box.
It displays the new style that we created just now. |
Select My Line Style >>
Click OK. |
Select it and click on the OK button.
We have created a new line style! |

From the Drawing toolbar >>
Click Basic Shapes >> select a Circle. |
From the Drawing toolbar, click on Insert Basic Shapes drop-down.
Select a Circle. |
Draw a small circle to the left of the School Campus. | Daw a small circle to the left of the School Campus. |
Point to the outline of the circle.
Type the text Stadium inside it. |
The outline style of the circle is that of My Line Style.
Let’s type Stadium inside it. |

In the Pages pane >>
Click on Slide 2. |

From the Drawing toolbar
>>click Insert Basic Shapes>> Select a Circle. >> drag to draw a circle on the page. |

Move the mouse to the Draw page and drag to draw a circle. |

>> click Insert Basic Shapes >>Diamond |
Similarly, select Diamond and draw it overlapping the circle. |
Select Fill Color
From the Palette select Dark Red 1. |
Next, click on Fill Color drop-down and select Dark Red 1 from the Palette.
Click on the diamond to colour it. |
Draw a Rectangle
From the Drawing toolbar >> click Insert Basic Shapes >> Rectangle drag to the draw page. |
Next, draw a rectangle overlapping the circle and diamond. |
Fill Color >>
Light Green 1 >> from the palette. |
Colour the rectangle as Light Green 1. |
Press Ctrl + A keys to select all the objects. | Now Press Ctrl + A keys to select all the objects. |
Right-click >>
Context menu >> Shapes. From the submenu select Combine option. |
Right-click for the Context menu and click on Shapes.

Click anywhere on the page to deselect the objects.
|
Click anywhere else on the page to deselect the objects.
|
Point to the new object. | The new object takes the colour of the object that is last and at the back. |
Press the keys CTRL + Z together. | Let us undo this action by pressing the CTRL+ Z keys together. |
Right-click for the Context menu | Select the objects again and right-click for the context menu. |
Click Shapes >> Merge. | Select Shapes and click on Merge.
Another new shape is created! |
