Point to the heading. | A new page opens with the heading About PhET.
This page has information about PhET. |
Point to the video.
Click on the play button and play the video.

Registration Confirmation |
You will receive an email from PhET simulations admin team.
Open your registered email account.

Point to the SIGN IN button.
Click on the Sign In icon available at the top-right corner of the page.

After completing the activation process you can sign in.

Type email id and enter the password.
|
I will Sign In using my email id and password.
Then click on the SIGN IN button |
Point to UPDATE PROFILE button.

You can update your profile here.

Point to centre of the page.
Click on EXPLORE OUR SIMS button. |
In the centre of the page click on EXPLORE OUR SIMS button.
The simulations page opens. |
Point to the tabs: Browse and Filter. | On the page, we have two tabs, namely Browse and Filter.

Scroll down the page to show the simulations subject-wise | In the Browse tab simulations are arranged subject-wise.

Point to Math.
|
Let us say we want to check the simulations given under Math.

Scroll down the page | All the simulations under Math are displayed.
|
Click on the back arrow button. | Let us go back to the previous page.
|
Click on the Filter tab. | Now click on the Filter tab. |
Point to all the filters.

In the Filter tab, the left-panel has the following filters:

Under COMPATIBILITY >>
Click on the check box to uncheck it.
|
By default under COMPATIBILITY, HTML5 checkbox is selected.
|
Point to the HTML5 files. | The HTML5 files are browser-based.
|
Point to the Java files. | Java files on the other hand require Java installation in the systems. |
Point to the Java files. | Java installation on various OS is explained in the Additional Reading Material. |
Click on the By Grade Level link. | Let us click on the plus sign next to the GRADE LEVEL filter.

Point to the checkboxes.

Click and show the dropdowns.

On the home page, we have the following dropdowns. SIMULATIONS, TEACHING, RESEARCH and ACCESSIBILITY. |
click on TEACHING dropdown >> select Browse Activities link.

Let us click on the TEACHING drop-down and select the Browse Activities link.

Point to each list.
Scroll the lists and select based on your requirement. |
On this page, we have the following lists.
Simulations, Types, Subjects, Levels and Languages. Scroll the lists and select based on your requirement. |
In the Simulations list, select Bending light.
In the Types list, select Lab. In the Subjects list, select Physics. In Levels, select HS. In Languages, select English. |
In the Simulations list, I will select Bending light.
In the Types list, I will select Lab. In the Subjects list, I will select Physics. In Levels, I will select high school, HS. In Languages, I will select English. |
Click on the browse button.
Show all the displayed activities. Click on the TITLE. Point to the Download link. |

Activities related to the simulation will be displayed. Select the activity by clicking on the TITLE link. |

On the page, links are provided to download the activity files. Here you can download individual files or all files as a compressed zip file. |

Double-click to open the file.

Point to Full Install section.
Click on the MacOS link. |
Under the Full Install section, click on the MacOS link. |
Enter the Sign-in details.

In the Sign in window, please sign with your registered email id and password.
|
Point to the file in the Downloads folder. | The phet-mac-app.dmg file downloads to the Downloads folder. |
Double-click on the dmg file. | After the download is complete, double-click on the dmg file.
The installation starts automatically.
|
Drag the PhET installer file and put it in the Applications folder. | Drag the PhET installer file and put it in the Applications folder.
|
Double to open the Applications folder.
Point to the PhET logo.

Open the Applications folder.
Locate the PhET logo.
|
Point to the dialog box.
Click on the Open button to open the Index of sims window. |
A confirmation dialog box opens.

Click on the thumbnail of any simulation. | Click on the thumbnail of any simulation to open and explore. |

Now let’s see how to download the offline version of PhET on Linux OS. | |
Show One at a Time Section. | For Linux users, there is no link to download the complete list of simulations.

Scroll down to Greenhouse Effect simulation.
|
As an example, let us download The Greenhouse Effect simulation.
|
Point to the dialog box. | Opening greenhouse_en.jar file dialog box opens. |
Select the Save File radio button.
Click on the OK button. Point to the file in the Downloads folder. |
Select the Save File radio button.
Then click on the OK button. The file downloads to the Downloads folder. |
Press Ctrl, Alt and T keys on the keyboard. | To open the jar file we need a terminal in Ubuntu.
To open the terminal press Ctrl , Alt and T keys simultaneously. |
At the prompt type, cd Downloads and press Enter.
Type java -jar greenhouse_en.jar and press Enter. Point to the simulation window. |
At the prompt type, cd Downloads and press Enter.
Then type java space hyphen jar space greenhouse_en.jar and press Enter. The Greenhouse Effect simulation opens. |
Click Cancel to continue the simulation. | Do not close the terminal, it will kill the process.
Click Cancel to continue the simulation. |
