00:01 Welcome to this Spoken Tutorial on Features of Marble.
00:06 In this tutorial we will learn to

00:12 Copy a map to a document and
00:14 Record a movie in Marble.
00:18 To record this tutorial, I am using, Ubuntu Linux OS, version 16.04
00:25 Marble version 1.12.20
00:29 FFmpeg and
00:31 A working Internet connection.
00:34 The process demonstrated in this tutorial is identical in,
00:39 Ubuntu Linux OS, version 18.04

Marble version 2.2.20.

00:47 To practise this tutorial, learner should be familiar with Marble interface.
00:53 For the prerequisite Marble tutorials, please visit this site.
00:58 The files used in this tutorial are available in the Code Files link on this tutorial page.
01:05 Please download and extract them.
01:08 Make a copy and then use them while practising.
01:12 I have downloaded and saved the files to my Desktop.
01:16 Let us first learn to create a map in Marble.
01:20 Let us open the default Atlas view.
01:24 In the Map view panel select Flat View option, if not already selected.
01:30 Flat view of Atlas is seen on the interface.
01:34 Click on the File menu and select Create a New Map option.
01:39 Marble Map Theme Creation Wizard dialog box opens.
01:44 Select the second radio button A single image showing the whole world.
01:49 Click on the Next button in the box.
01:52 In the box, click on the 3 dots button next to Source Image field.
01:59 Open dialog box appears.
02:02 Select the folder where you have saved your desired map.
02:07 My image file is in the Desktop folder.
02:11 Double-click on the Desktop folder.
02:14 Select oceans-and-seas-map-of-the-world.jpg file
02:19 We can either use .png or .jpg image files.
02:24 Click on the Open button at the bottom right corner of the dialog box
02:29 Image path is added to the Source Image field.
02:34 Click on the Next button in the dialog box.
02:38 Please read the General Information given at the top.
02:42 In the Map Title field I will type the name as World Oceans and Seas.
02:48 In the Map Name field type the name as Oceans and Seas.
02:53 In the Description field , I will add a short description about this map.
02:58 This description is provided in the Code files.
03:02 Below the Description field, we can see the Preview Image of the selected map.
03:08 If you want to change the image, click on Change button.
03:13 As this is a downloaded map, I don't want to change the image.
03:18 I will click on the Next button.
03:21 Let us leave the Legend image and its components as default.
03:26 Then click on the Next button.
03:29 Read the Summary carefully.
03:32 Map Name, Map theme, and Preview Image are seen here.
03:38 Click on the Preview Map button.
03:41 Preview Map- Marble Virtual Globe window opens.
03:44 It shows the preview of the map.
03:48 Close the Preview Map window.
03:51 Click on the Finish button in the box.
03:54 Go to the Map View panel and scroll down.
03:59 World Oceans and Seas map is saved in the Map View panel.
04:04 Here you can see the description that is added while creating this map.
04:09 Let us open this map.
04:12 Now I will show how to delete this map from the interface.
04:17 Go to World Oceans and Seas in the Map View panel and right-click on it.
04:23 Select Delete Map Theme option.
04:27 A message: Are you sure you want to delete “World Oceans and Seas” appears.
04:33 Click on the Yes button in the box.
04:36 This map is deleted from the Map View panel.
04:41 Next we will learn how to copy a map from Marble to other documents.
04:46 For example, I will copy the Satellite view of the world to a document.
04:51 Go to Map View panel and select Satellite View.
04:55 I will hide Overviewmap, Compass, Windrose and Scale Bar for a better view.
05:05 Go to the Edit menu and select Copy Map option.
05:10 I have opened a LibreOffice Writer document in my system.
05:15 To paste this map in the document press Ctrl and V keys together.
05:20 Satellite View of the world map is copied to the document as an image.
05:26 We can resize the image by dragging the handles.
05:30 Now we will save this document.
05:32 Click on File and select Save option.
05:36 Save dialog box opens.
05:39 Select Desktop folder to save the file.
05:43 In the Name field, type the name as Satellite hyphen view dot odt
05:50 Click on the Save button at the bottom of the dialog box.
05:54 This is the saved document Satellite hyphen view dot odt
05:59 Double-click on it to open the file.
06:02 An assignment for you.
06:04 Create a world map showing climate zones of the world.
06:09 Hint: Climate Zones map is available in the Code files link.
06:15 Next let us learn to record a movie in Marble.
06:19 Before we start the recording, we have to set a theme for it.
06:24 I will choose Earth at Night view to record a movie.
06:28 Click on Earth at Night view from the Map View panel.
06:32 Click on the Globe View to see the virtual globe.
06:36 To record a movie in Marble, FFmpeg software is required.
06:42 FFmpeg is a collection of libraries and tools to process multimedia.
06:48 FFmpeg is a free and open source software.
06:52 It handles video, audio, and other multimedia files and streams.
06:58 You can download FFmpeg from the below link.
07:02 I have download FFmpeg software to my system.
07:07 To record a movie, go to the Edit menu and select Record Movie option.
07:13 Movie Recording Marble dialog box opens on the interface.
07:18 Click on the Open button in the dialog box.
07:22 Save video file dialog box opens.
07:26 I will select the Desktop folder as the destination.
07:30 In the File name field type the name as Earth hyphen at hyphen Night dot mp4
07:38 Select the Files of type as MPEG-4.
07:43 Click on Save button in the box.
07:47 Here we see Fps up and down arrow button.
07:52 What is FPS?
07:54 FPS is frames per second.
07:58 It shows how many unique consecutive images a camera can handle in one second.
08:05 We can change the FPS value between 1 and 60.
08:10 I will keep the value as 30.
08:13 Once everything is set, we can start the recording.
08:17 To start recording, I will click on the Start button.
08:21 Earth at Night map view shows the Earth’s city lights.
08:26 These lights are visible at night on the Earth's surface.
08:31 Let us rotate the globe to see different continents.
08:37 The brightest areas of the world are the most populated areas.
08:42 Since there is no human population, oceans and seas look completely dark.
08:50 Now we have completed our recording.
08:54 Let us go to the Edit menu and select Stop recording option.
09:00 Now let us check our saved video.
09:03 Go to the Desktop folder.
09:06 Earth at Night dot mp4 file is saved on the Desktop.
09:11 Let us open this file.
09:14 We can see that Earth at night view has been captured.
