00:01 Welcome to this Spoken tutorial on Search Places and Measure Distances.
00:08 In this tutorial we will learn about,
00:12 Search places
00:14 Place information data sheet
00:17 Measure the distance between two places.
00:21 To record this tutorial, I am using; Ubuntu Linux OS version 16.04
00:28 Marble version 1.12.20
00:33 The process demonstrated in this tutorial is identical in

Ubuntu Linux version OS 18.04, Marble version 2.2.20

00:45 To practise this tutorial, learner should be familiar with Marble interface.
00:51 For the prerequisite Marble tutorials, please visit this site.
00:57 We have already learnt about different panels in Marble.
01:02 We will learn how to search places using the Search panel.
01:07 In the Search panel, we can see a search box.
01:11 Search box has a binocular icon with drop down arrow button.
01:17 Click on the down arrow button to show Global Search and Area Search.
01:23 By default Global Search is selected.
01:27 Let us enter the name of a place in the search box, to find its location on the map.
01:33 We will search for China on the map.
01:37 Type china in the search box.
01:41 When we type the alphabet C, all the places starting with C appear below the search box.
01:48 Now select China from the list.
01:52 Press Enter key on the keyboard.
01:55S Notice that a cross hair appears on the location of China on the map.
02:01 If crosshair option is not activated on your interface, go to View menu.

And check Crosshairs option.

02:12 Let us zoom in and navigate to China.
02:17 After finding the location on the map, left-click on its label.
02:22 Place information data sheet appears on the screen.
02:26 On the top of this data sheet name and flag of the country are shown.
02:32 Next we have Coordinates table.
02:36 This table shows information about Longitude, Latitude and Elevation of a place.
02:45 Below the table we have Short Description.
02:49 In the Short description, a brief history about the country is given.
02:55 Data sheet has a scroll-bar to scroll to the bottom of the sheet.

Let us scroll down to the bottom.

03:03 Now we have Fact sheet table.
03:06 It shows Population and Area of the country.
03:11 I will scroll up the data sheet.
03:14 Click on the Close button to close the data sheet.
03:18 To clear the search history, click on the Clear button in the Search box.
03:23 I will zoom out to go back to default view on the map.
03:29 Let us search for Mount Everest.
03:33 I will type Mount Everest in the search box.
03:37 When we start typing Mount, a list of mountains appears below the search box.
03:44 Select Mount Everest from the list.
03:48 Press Enter key on the keyboard.
03:41 Mount Everest is shown the map.
03:54 Left-click on its label to show place information data sheet.
04:00 Let us close this data sheet.
04:04 An assignment for you.
04:07 Find the location of Russia on the map.
04:11 Show its place information data sheet on the map.
04:16 Next we will learn how to measure the distance between two places on the map.
04:22 Let us find the distance between Mumbai and Chennai.
04:27 I will zoom in and locate Mumbai on the map.
04:32 Then right click on its location.
04:35 A context menu appears on the globe.
04:38 Select Add measure points option.
04:41 A white plus sign appears on the location of Mumbai.
04:46 Next locate Chennai.
04:49 Right click on its label. Context menu appears again.
04:55 Select Add measure points option.
04:58 A red line, connecting Mumbai and Chennai is shown on the map.
05:04 The distance between Mumbai and Chennai is shown as 1020.5 Km.
05:12 This value may slightly change while you are measuring.
05:17 Total distance between these two places is also shown below the Overview map.
05:23 To remove the measure points, right click on the map.
05:27 Context menu appears.
05:30 Select Remove Measure Points option.
05:34 Now we do not see the measure points for Mumbai and Chennai.
05:40 An assignment for you.

Find the distance between Pune and Hyderabad on the map.
