00:01	Hello everyone. Welcome to this tutorial on Installation of Audacity in Windows OS.
00:09	In this tutorial, we will learn about installation of Audacity
00:16	Lame library and FFmpeg library in the Windows Operating System
00:24	To record this tutorial I am using Windows OS version 7
00:32	Audacity version 2.2.1 And a working Internet connection
00:40	Audacity is a free and open source software.
00:45	It is used for multi-track audio recording and editing.
00:51	It is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux and other operating systems.
01:02	Now let’s learn how to install Audacity in Windows OS.
01:09	To do so, open this link on any web browser
01:15	Here is the page.
01:18	On the left hand side , you can see that the current version Audacity 2.2.1 is available for download.
01:29	The latest available version could be different when you are downloading.
01:35	Let me click on the link Audacity for Windows.
01:40	You will see two links - Audacity 2.2.1 installer Audacity 2.2.1 zip file
01:53	I will click on the first link, that is the installer link.
01:59	The Save dialog box opens. It will ask “Would you like to save this file?”
02:06	Click on Save File button. This may take some time to download depending on your internet speed.
02:15	Now, let me go to the Downloads folder to view the downloaded file.
02:22	Here you can see the downloaded Audacity setup file. Right-click on the file and click on Run as administrator.
02:35	A message box may appear asking about User Account Control. If it does, click on Yes.
02:45	Another dialog box named Select Set up Language will appear.
02:51	Select English from the drop-down and then click on OK.
02:58	A Setup - Audacity window will appear. Click on Next.
03:05	It will show you some information. Read it and then click on Next.
03:13	It will direct you to another window named as Select Destination Location.
03:21	Here, by default, it is set as like this
03:27	You may see a different default location on your machine.
03:33	Carefully set the path here, in case you want to change the location.
03:39	Now click on Next.
03:42	In the Select Additional Task window, I will check Create a desktop icon.
03:49	On checking this, a shortcut icon will be created on the Desktop.
03:55	Then click on Next.
03:58	Now, the setup file is ready to install. Let’s click on Install.
04:06	You can see it is installing. This may take a few seconds.
04:13	Now click on Next.
04:16	I will check the Launch Audacity option.
04:20	This will show us the Audacity window, once the installation is completed.
04:27	Lastly, click on Finish to exit the setup. The Audacity window pops up immediately.
04:36	Note: Whenever you open Audacity, a small window may appear with some information.
04:44	Check the option “Don’t show this again at start up”. Then click on OK.
04:51	This is how the Audacity interface looks like.
04:55	To cross-verify the installation, we will do a small demo recording.
05:01	Click on the button with the red dot.
05:04	Narrate a sentence - For eg: Welcome to Audacity.
05:11	If you see waveforms below, then your Audacity installation is successful.
05:18	Let’s close this window now, without saving the recording. We are back in the Desktop.
05:26	To open Audacity in Windows OS subsequently, either click on the shortcut icon on the Desktop or click on Start Menu, type Audacity and click on the icon.
05:45	This completes the installation demo for Windows OS.
05:50	Some important things to know about Audacity.
05:54	By default, Audacity will export the audio files in few formats like ogg, mp3, etc.
06:05	A plugin called "Lame" is needed in Audacity, to export into mp3 format in Windows OS.
06:14	Audacity also uses the "FFmpeg" plugin to be able to read/import mp4 files, in Windows OS.
06:25	Now let us learn about the Lame installation.
06:29	Lame is a library that allows some programs to encode mp3 files. To install lame library in Windows OS, visit this link.

06:45	Scroll down a little bit.
06:48	Locate "TO DOWNLOAD Lame and FFmpeg for Windows, click links BELOW",
06:56	We will use the RECOMMENDED Installer Package for Windows: Click on the installer package Lame v3.99.3 for Windows.exe
07:11	Save the file on your computer.
07:14	In my system, it is saved in Downloads folder, by default.
07:20	Let me go to the Downloads folder.
07:23	Double-click "Lame_v3.99.3_ for_ Windows.exe" to launch it
07:37	Follow the setup instructions to install Lame for Audacity.
07:43	Make sure not to change the default installation location of this.
07:49	The default location would be C:\Program Files (x86)\Lame for Audacity".
08:02	You should now be able to export to mp3 format in Audacity in Windows OS.
08:10	Now we have the necessary setup to export our recordings to mp3 format.
08:18	Let’s move on.
08:20	FFmpeg libraries allow Audacity to import audio from video files.
08:27	To install FFmpeg library in Windows OS, visit this link
08:34	Here is the web page.
08:37	Scroll down a little bit.
08:40	Locate "TO DOWNLOAD Lame and FFmpeg for Windows, click links BELOW",
08:47	Directly below this, click the installer package FFmpeg-win-2.2.2.exe
08:59	Save the file on your computer.
09:02	In my system it is saved in Downloads folder, by default.
09:08	Go to the Downloads folder, double-click on FFmpeg-win-2.2.2.exe to launch the installer.
09:21	Another dialog box named Select Set up Language will appear.
09:27	Select English from the drop-down and then click on OK.
09:34	A Setup window will appear. Read the License. Click on Next, Next and Install, to install the required files to C:\Program Files\FFmpeg for Audacity.
09:54	For 64-bit version of Windows, the default location would be "C:\Program Files (x86)\FFmpeg for Audacity
10:11	Lastly click on Finish to exit the setup.
10:17	Let me show you a small demo of the same.
10:21	Note: I will import the audio from a video file named as What-is-a-Spoken-Tutorial.mov from my Desktop.
10:33	Then, click on Start Menu and type Audacity. Click on Audacity from the displayed list.
10:43	This will open an empty Audacity project on your screen.
10:49	On the Main menu, click on the File.
10:53	Now click on Import and then on Audio.
10:58	A dialog box will appear asking to choose the location of the file.
11:04	I will choose Desktop' and then my file What-is-a-Spoken-Tutorial'.mov.
11:12	Lastly, click on Open.
11:16	It will import only the audio from this particular video. You can see the audio track here.
11:25	This brings us to the end of the tutorial.
