Welcome to the spoken tutorial on Installation of QGIS . |

In this tutorial we will learn to install QGIS on,
Ubuntu Linux Windows and Mac Operating System. |

System Requirement |
For the installation, I am using,
Ubuntu Linux version 16.04 Windows 10 Mac OS X 10.10 and A Working internet connection. |
Press Ctrl, Alt and T keys simultaneously. | Open the terminal by pressing Ctrl, Alt and T keys simultaneously. |
Type sudo su and press enter. | At the prompt,
Type sudo space su and press enter. |
At the prompt.
Cursor on the message. Type the password and press enter. |
A message appears which prompts you to enter your system password.
Type the password and press enter. |
Cursor on the terminal. | Now will have to execute few commands for the installation. |
Open the QGIS Installation Repositories file. | Here I have the file with the list of necessary commands.
This file is provided in the additional reading material with the name QGIS Installation Repositories. |

Copy the below command, gedit /etc/apt/sources.list |
Lets now add QGIS repositories to the sources.list file.
Copy the following command . Use ctrl c to copy. |
Terminal : Right-click and select paste.
Press Enter. |
At the terminal prompt, right-click and select paste,
and press Enter. |
Gedit with sources.list file opens. | Gedit editor will open with sources.list file. |
Cursor on QGIS Installation Repositories file. | Go back to the QGIS Installation Repositories file.
Now add two lines highlighted here at the end of the sources.list file. |
Copy the below lines,
deb-src https://qgis.org/ubuntu-ltr xenial main |
Copy the two lines shown here.

Cursor on Sources.list file. | Paste at the end of the sources.list file. |
Gedit Editor with sources.list file opens. | Press Ctrl S to save the file. |
Point it to the top left corner close button. | Now close this file by clicking on the cross at the top left corner of your window. |
Cursor on the Terminal.
Type sudo apt-get updateand press Enter. |
At the terminal prompt,
Type sudo space apt-get space update and press Enter. |
Cursor on the Terminal. | This process may take some time.
The update is now complete. |
At the terminal. | At this point we need to execute a few more commands.

Cursor on QGIS Installation Repositories file.
QGIS Repository Public Keys.
gpg --fingerprint CAEB3DC3BDF7FB45

The following three commands are shown here.
We need to execute them one by one. Copy one command at a time and paste them in the terminal. Press Enter after pasting each command at the prompt. |
Highlight OK Message. | After execution of the third command, you will see an OK message. |

Copy the below lines

Now execute the last command from the QGIS Installation Repositories file
Copy the following command. |
Cursor on the Terminal
Press Enter. |
Paste it at the terminal prompt.
And press Enter. |
Press Y on the keyboard.
Installation in process |
Press y to continue, And press Enter.
This process will take some time. The installation is now complete. |
Dashboard | Press windows key on your keyboard and type QGIS in the search bar. |
Click on QGIS Desktop Application Icon. | You should be able to see QGIS Desktop Application.
Click on it to open QGIS. |
Cursor on the interface. | This is the QGIS interface. |

QGIS Installation |
Now let’s move on to the QGIS installation on windows. |
Copy and Paste following link to the web browser. | Go back to the QGIS Installation Repositories file.
Copy the following link. |
Open Chrome Web Browser. | Open any Web Browser in your system, I am opening Chrome. |
Cursor on Chrome Web Browser.
Paste the copied link. Press Enter. |
Paste the copied link into your web browser.
and Press Enter. |
A Dialogue box appears on the web page. | Ignore this error message, and click on OK. |
Scroll down to Long term release repository section. | Scroll down to Long term release repository most stable section. |
Choose 64 bit.
Click on the download icon. |
Choose appropriate setup between, 64 bit or 32 bit according to your system.
Click on the download icon, given on the left side of the respective setup file. |
Downloading in the process. | Download of installer file will take some time, depending upon your internet speed. |
Cursor on the window. | I have already downloaded this setup file and saved it to the downloads folder. |
Cursor on the window. | Now let’s navigate to the downloads folder. |
Click on search box.
Type downloads. |
In the search box available on the task bar,
type downloads. |
Click on downloads option. | Click on the downloads option.

Find QGIS Installer file. | Downloads folder opens.
Find QGIS Installer file.

Cursor on Window. | A dialog-box will open on your system.
Click Yes to proceed. |
Cursor on Installation Wizard. | Installation Wizard opens, read the instructions and Click on Next button. |
Click on I Agree. | In the software license agreement page/window, click on I Agree button. |
Point to the Location section. | Choose where to install the software, leave default location if not sure. |
Keep the default selection. | You need not select any extra components for installation, just proceed with QGIS. |
Click on Install button. | Click on Install button. |
Installation in process. | The installation will take some time. |
Click on finish. | Once done, click on finish button to complete the installation.

Type QGIS in the search box. | In the search box available on the taskbar.
Type QGIS. In the list you should be able to see QGIS Desktop Application. |
Click on QGIS Desktop. | Click on it to open QGIS. |
Cursor on the interface. | This is the QGIS interface. |

Installation of QGIS. |
Now let’s move on to QGIS installation on Mac OS. |
Cursor on QGIS Website’s download page. | Go back to the QGIS download web page we had opened earlier. |
Cursor on QGIS Website’s download page. | Open Download for Mac OS X tab. |
Scroll down to Long term release most stable. | Scroll down to Long term release most stable section. |
Click on the download icon. | Click on the download icon given on the left side of the respective setup file. |
Cursor on dialogue box. | A dialogue box opens. |
Keep the default file name. | Let us not change the default file name. |
Choose Downloads folder | Choose Downloads folder as a location to save this file. |
Click on Savebutton. | Click on Save button. |

Cursor on the window. | I have already downloaded this setup file and saved it to the Downloads folder. |
Cursor on the window. | Now let’s navigate to the Downloads folder. |
Click on search icon. | Click on search icon at the top-right corner of the screen. |
Type Downloads. | Type Downloads, Double click on the Downloads folder option. |
Find QGIS Installer file. | Find QGIS Installer file, Click on it to start the installation process. |
QGIS setup folder open.
Point to the folders. |
A setup folder opens with many files.
There are four packages, each starts with a number. This tells you the order to install the packages |
Cursor on the setup folder. | To allow installation of non-Apple developer recognized software,
First change your Mac Security Preferences to Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere. |
Open System Preferences.
Press Enter. |
Click on search icon at the top-right corner on the screen.
Type System Preferences and press Enter. |
Click on Security & Privacy. | A window with system preferences will open.
Click on Security & Privacy. |
In General tab by default, if not select General | From the Security & Privacy window, In "General" tab. |
Select the lock in the lower left corner. | Click the lock icon in the bottom- left corner to allow changes. |
Enter the username and password. | Enter your system password in the dialog-box. |
Click on unlock. | Then click on "Unlock" button. |
Select Anywhere. | In the Allow apps downloaded from section, Click on Anywhere radio button. |
Click on Allow from anywhere | A dialogue box open, click on Allow from anywhere button. |
Click on the opened lock icon. | Click on the opened lock icon in the bottom-left corner to lock the settings. |
Close the window | Close the window. |
Go to the Setup Folder. | Now go to the setup folder, and Double click on package number 1.
Follow the instructions in this installation wizard and install the package. |
Click on Continue. | Click on Continue. |
Click on Continue. | Read the given important instructions and click on Continue. |
Click on Continue. | Read the license agreement and click on Continue. |
Click on Agree. | Agree the software license agreement by clicking on Agree button, in the opened dialogue box. |
Click on install. | Click on install. |
Enter system password. | Type the system password in the opened dialogue box. |
Click on Install. | and click on Install Software button. |
Cursor on the window. | Once the installation completes, Click on Close button. |
Repeat the process for package numbers 2,3 & 4. | Repeat this process for package numbers 2,3 and 4. |
Cursor on the window. | Once the installations for all four packages are complete,
QGIS would be installed on your system. |
Cursor on Desktop Window. | Click on search icon.
Type QGIS. |
Double click on QGIS Application. | Double-click on QGIS application to launch QGIS. |
Cursor on QGIS Interface. | Here is the QGIS interface.
