Let us begin by learning how to add a Patron category. | |
Log into Koha using the username and password | Log into Koha using your database administrator username and password. |
Click on Koha Administration | Click on Koha Administration. |

Click on Patron categories |
Under the section Patrons and circulation, click on Patron categories. |
Cursor on Patron categories | A new page Patron categories opens. |
Click on +New Category | Click on +New Category. |

A new page New category opens up prompting us to fill in some details. |
As mentioned before, note that the fields marked in red are mandatory. | |
Details filled are as follows-
Category code as FAC Description as Faculty In months: 50 Enter Age as 35 Show only the filled details in the video. |
I have filled out a few details here. Please do so likewise. |
Cursor on Category type: >> From the drop-down select Staff | For Category type: from drop-down list, select Staff. |
Cursor on Branches limitation: >> Select All Branches. | For Branches limitation: select All Branches. |
Click on Save | Next, click on Save. |
Cursor on Library Staff | The category name that we entered appears on the page Patron categories.

With this a Patron Category has been created. | |
Log in to Koha | Next, we will learn how to add a Patron. |
Click on Home at the top left corner | For that click on Home at the top left corner. |
Cursor on dialog box | The Koha homepage opens with a dialog box prompting us to Create a Patron. |

It’s mandatory to create a Patron. Otherwise in database administrator role, some parts of Koha will not function.

Click on +Create Patron. | As prompted in the dialog box, click on +Create Patron.

A new page opens | A new page opens. |
Click on the tab +New Patron >> Select Library staff | Click on the tab +New Patron.

Show filled in details.

Now, fill the details required under the various sections like:
Patron identity Main address Contact etc. |
Show the filled in the details | I have filled a few details as shown here.

Under the section Library management:, locate the field Card Number:

Next is Library.

Cursor on Category >> Select, staff from the drop-down
|
For Category, I will select Library Staff from the drop-down.

Cursor at section OPAC/Staff login
|
Under the section OPAC/Staff login, enter Username and Password.
|
Slide Important note-
This will be used a little later to give rights/permissions to a Staff.
|
Remember this username and password.
|
Go to the top of the page >> Click on Save
|
After filling in the details, go to the top of the page and click Save. |

A new page with the name of the Patron and the card number opens.

To edit the sections, click on the Edit tab, located at the bottom of the respective sections. |

Now let us learn how to give permissions to the Patrons. |
Cursor on More >> Click on Set Permissions
|
On the same page, locate the tab More and click on Set Permissions.

Click in the checkbox:

Click on the checkbox for
(superlibrarian) Access to all librarian functions.

Click Save | Then click on Save at the bottom of the page

With this Superlibrarian account, we can give rights/permissions to a Staff.

How to give access to a Staff for a particular module?
|
Let’s now learn how to give access to a Staff for a particular module?
|
Click Log out
|
Logout from your current session as Database administrative user.
From the drop-down, click on Log out. |

A Superlibrarian can give rights/permissions to another Staff for accessing any other module.

Now, login with the Superlibrarian account.

Click on the tab New Patron
|
As explained earlier in this tutorial, create a Patron.
|
For Category: Select Library Staff from the drop-down.
|
For Category: Select Library Staff from the drop-down.
|
Click Save | After filling in all details, click on Save. |
Now give permissions to this particular Patron. | |
Go to the tab More and click on Set a Permissions. | Go to the tab More and click on Set Permissions. |
A new page opens up. | A new page opens with the title Set permissions for Samruddhi.
|
Click on the checkbox for
(superlibrarian) Access to all librarian functions. |
Click on the checkbox for
(circulate) Check out and check in items. |
Then click on Save. | Then click Save at the bottom of the page. |
With this we have given Circulation rights to a Library Staff with the name Ms. Samruddhi. | |
Click Logout.

Now logout from the Superlibrarian account.
|
With this we come to the end of this tutorial.
