00:01 Welcome to this overview spoken tutorial on DWSIM, an open source chemical process simulator.
00:07 My name is Kannan Moudgalya.
00:11 In this tutorial, we will:* learn to install DWSIM
00:15 * Get introduced to DWSIM
00:18 * Get a glimpse of DWSIM spoken tutorials that are already available
00:23 * Learn about all possible help available for DWSIM.
00:28 Almost any operating system will work, but I am recording this tutorial in Windows 7.
00:35 What is simulation?
00:36 Study of a physical system with a mathematical model and a computer solution to this model.
00:43 Simulation helps predict the behavior of the physical system.
00:47 It is inexpensive, safe and fast.
00:51 It eliminates the need to do these studies on the real system.
00:56 Indian space missions are economical and done in a relatively short time.
01:02 One important reason is simulation.
01:05 Reliance Jamnagar was the world’s largest single stream refinery when started.
01:11 Put up in a short time, once again, thanks to simulation.
01:16 There are many commercial process simulators.
01:19 A few general purpose simulators are listed here.
01:23 What is DWSIM?
  • It is a state of the art process simulator
  • Open source software
  • Absolutely free
  • Developed by Daniel
  • Thermodynamic support by Gregor
  • Used all over the world.
