Slide 1 Hello and welcome to the spoken tutorial on Downloading and Installing Salome.
Slide 2 : Learning Objectives In this tutorial we will see:

How to download and install Salome.

To record this tutorial,


I am using Linux operating system Ubuntu 12.10

and

Salome version 6.6.0



Slide 4:

Introduction

Let me introduce you to Salome


It is an opensource software


It can be used in Pre and Post-processing for numercal simulation


It is advantageous for creating complex CAD geometries


than blockMesh utility in OpenFOAM

To install Salome,

Open the Firefox browser

In the link bar type, www.salome-platform.org

Press Enter.

Now you are on the Salome website.

On the left side, you will see Navigation bar.



At the bottom of the Navigation bar, you will see New User option. Click on it.
It will direct you to the window where you will have to put your personal details.
After putting the details, click on the register tab at the bottom.
You will be directed to the screen showing the message that

you have been registered.

It also states that,

to complete the registration process you will have to log in to your email.

In you email account open the email from Salome.



Click on the link given in it.
The link will direct you to the window where you will have to set your password.



After putting the password and confirming it, click on Set my password button.
It will direct you to the window stating that,

“Your password has been set successfully. You may now log in with your new password.”

At the bottom in the navigation bar you can put your log in name and password to log in.



Now, in the Navigation bar click on Download.
You will be directed to the page where you will see various binaries to download for different linux platforms.



As I am using 64-bit architecture, I will download Debian 6.0 Squeeze 64 bit binary.
Click on it.

Click on Save File option. click on Ok.

It will take some time to download.



Now scroll down. You will see Universal Binaries for Linux,

download 64bit Linux binary.

You have to download the appropriate version.

I will download 64 bit Linux version.

Again click on Save file. Click on Ok. It will take a while.

I have already downloaded the files.



Now Open the Home folder. Go to Downloads from the left hand side option.



The downloaded files are found here.

One file is the tar file and another is self-extracting file.



Copy these two fles.



Go back to the Home folder and paste the two files here.
Now double click on installWizzard tar file.



New window will open.

Click on Exctract menu at the top.



Now click on Extract tab.

After the extraction is complete, click on Quit.

IntallWizzard has been extracted in the Home folder.
Now minimize Home folder.
Open command terminal.
Type ls and press Enter.

We are in the Home folder.



Go to InstallWizard folder by typing,

cd (space) (capital) I and press Tab key to automatically get the whole file name.

Press Enter.

Type ls and press Enter.
Now, to start installation type . (dot) / (slash) runInstall (space) - (hyphen) b

Note that I is capital.

Press Enter.

Type 1 (one) for debian install.

Installation process will start.

After it has been installed, Close the terminal.

Open a new terminal.

Now, we will install Universal binaries.

We are already in the Home folder.



Type . (dot) / (slash) (capital) S and press Tab key to automatically get the whole file name.

Press Enter.

Press Enter again.



It says whether we want to download Salome in French.

If no then type N and Press Enter.

Installation process will start.

It may take a while.

After it has been installed, close the terminal.
You will see Salome icon on the desktop.

Double click on it to open the Salome software.



Salome software has been installed and ready to use.

You may now explore the software.

You may close the software.
