00:01 | Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on Introduction to Gmail. |
00:06 | In this tutorial, we will learn to- |
00:09 | * Create a new google account |
00:12 | * Login to gmail using the google account |
00:16 | * Write an email |
00:18 | * Send an email |
00:20 | * View an email and |
00:22 | * logout of gmail. |
00:24 | We will also learn about some of the important mailboxes like Inbox. |
00:30 | For this tutorial, you will need - a working Internet connection |
00:35 | and a web browser. |
00:37 | For demonstration, I will be using Firefox web browser. |
00:42 | Lately, Google has provided a single account for all Google products like: |
00:48 | * Gmail |
00:49 | * YouTube |
00:50 | * Google Play |
00:51 | * Google Docs/Drive |
00:53 | * Google Calendar.... and more. |
00:57 | So, with the same login, you can operate any of these. |
01:02 | Let's begin by creating a new google account. |
01:06 | Open your web browser and type: http colon slash slash gmail dot com (http://gmail.com). |
01:16 | It will take us to the page where we can see 2 options at the top right- |
01:22 | Create an account and Sign in. |
01:25 | If this is the first time this page is accessed from your machine, it will look like this. |
01:32 | If this page has already been accessed from your machine, then the page will look like this. |
01:39 | So, you will see text-boxes to enter your email username and password. |
01:46 | And a big button that says Sign In. |
01:50 | Below this, you will see a link that says Create an account. |
01:55 | Let's click on the Create an account link. |
01:59 | We are now in the Google Account creation page. |
02:03 | We can see a form on the right, wherein we have to fill our account and personal details. |
02:11 | Let's enter our first and last names in the respective text-boxes. |
02:17 | I will give my name as Rebecca Raymond. |
02:23 | Next, we have to choose our username. |
02:27 | Username has to be unique and can be made up of alphabets or alpha-numeric combinations. |
02:37 | Let's give the username as "becky0808". |
02:43 | If the username is already taken, we will see the following message: |
02:49 | “Someone already has that user name, Try another”. |
02:54 | Google will also suggest some usernames based on the first and last names we have given. |
03:01 | We can give any username of our choice and check for availability. |
03:07 | Now, I will give the username as ray.becky.0808. |
03:18 | This goes through which indicates this username is available. |
03:24 | Now, we have to create a password for this account. |
03:30 | The information box on the left tells us how long the password should be. |
03:36 | Type a suitable password of your choice. |
03:41 | Then re-type the password to confirm it. |
03:44 | After this comes Birthday. |
03:48 | Select the month from the drop-down. |
03:51 | Then type the day and year in the respective text boxes. |
03:57 | Now select your gender. |
04:00 | I am selecting Female. |
04:03 | The next field is Mobile phone. |
04:06 | I will skip this for now. |
04:08 | After this, is a text box that asks for our current email address. |
04:14 | If you have an alternate email address, apart from the one you are creating now, type it here. |
04:21 | If you don't, leave it as blank. |
04:23 | Let's fill the remaining details now. |
04:26 | The next segment “Prove you're not a robot” has 2 verification steps. |
04:32 | * Phone verification |
04:34 | * Puzzle verification. |
04:36 | We can proceed with any one of these 2 options. |
04:40 | I will go with the puzzle verification. |
04:43 | Type the text/number shown in the image, in the Type the text text-box. |
04:49 | The country where you are located is displayed, by default, in the Location drop-down. |
04:55 | I am located in India. So, India is shown in my Location drop-down. |
05:02 | Lastly, click on I agree to the Google Terms of service and Privacy Policy check-box, to check it. |
05:10 | Once all the details are filled in the form, we have to click on Next Step button. |
05:17 | Right now, we will not do so. |
05:20 | Let us see what to do, if we select “Phone Verification”. |
05:25 | Click on the “Skip this verification (Phone Verification may be required)” check-box. |
05:32 | Choose the location as India (भारत) |
05:35 | Then click on I agree to the Google Terms and Privacy Policy check-box. |

06:00 | Select Text message (SMS) option. Usually, it will be selected by default. |
06:07 | Then click on Continue button. |
06:10 | You will receive an SMS on your phone. |
06:13 | It will now take you to the next part of the verification. |
06:17 | Type the verification code you received from Google via SMS, in the text box provided. |
06:24 | Click on Continue. |
06:27 | We are now in the Create your public Google+ profile page. |
06:32 | Here, you can see your name. |
