0:00 Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on Extensions in Mozilla Firefox.
0:05 In this tutorial, we will learn about: Extensions or Add-ons, Installing Extensions, Recommended Extensions
0:14 Here we are using Firefox 7.0 on Ubuntu 10.04.
0:20 Let us open the Firefox browser.
0:23 By default, the yahoo home page opens.
0:27 What are Extensions or Add-ons?
0:29 Extensions allow you to:
0:31 * Add new features to the Firefox browser.
0:35 * Enhance existing features.
0:37 * Customize the Firefox browser to suit your preferences.
0:42 * Extensions, are a part of the Firefox browser
0:45 * And extend the browser’s capabilities.
0:48 For example, you can install extensions that:
0:51 # Block advertisements or popups.
0:54 # Compare prices of commodities
0:56 # And even display weather updates.
1:00 Let’s install the Grab and Drag extension.
1:03 Grab and Drag let’s you scroll through web pages in various ways.
1:07 It is similar to the grab and drag function in Adobe Acrobat.
1:12 From the Menu bar, click Tools and Add-ons.
1:16 The Add-ons Manager tab opens.
1:20 Alternately, you can also press the CTRL+Shift+A keys together, to open the Add-ons Manager tab.
1:28 The left panel in Add-ons Manager displays the available options.
1:34 Notice, by default, the option Get Add-ons is selected.
1:39 The right panel displays information for the option selected in the left panel.
1:45 So, the right panel, defines Add-ons and tells you how to get started with add-ons.
1:51 It even lists some Add-ons you can install.
1:55 Now, we shall install, the new Add-on: Grab and Drag.
1:59 First, in the Search bar, located on top-right corner, type Grab and Drag.

Press Enter.

2:08 The right panel, now lists the add-ons, that best match the name we searched for.
2:14 Also, notice, that all the add-ons that have the word drag in the title are displayed
2:20 Notice, that the first name on the list, Grab and Drag, is an exact match.
2:26 Click on Install.
2:28 As with most software, some add-ons too, may have end-user license agreements.
2:35 On the End-User License Agreement dialog box, click Accept and Install.
2:41 The Add-on downloading progress bar appears.
2:46 Next, a message that the add-on will be installed
2:50 when you restart Mozilla Firefox is displayed.
2:54 Click on Restart Now.
2:57 The Firefox browser closes and reopens.
3:01 The Add-ons Manager opens in a new tab.
3:05 Notice, that the Grab and Drag extension is displayed in the right panel of the Extensions tab.
3:11 Following the previous steps let’s install another extension Scrap Book.
3:18 Scrap Book allows you to save and manage Web page collections.
3:24 * Notice, that the installation progress bar and the message to close and restart Firefox are not displayed separately.

3:40 Scrap Book is installed in Firefox.

4:16 The right panel, now displays the Extensions that are installed on your computer.

4:31 * Click on the website link to learn all about the extension.
4:35 Now, from the left panel, click on the Extension option.
4:40 Notice, for each Extension you can set preferences, disable or remove it.
4:46 Select Grab and Drag and click on Preferences.
4:49 You can set your preferences using this dialog box.
4:53 Click Cancel to exit the dialog box.
4:57 Now, select Scrap Book and click Preferences.
5:01 Notice, that the Scrap Book Options dialog box is different from the Grab and Drag Preferences dialog box.
5:09 * Therefore, each Extension has different settings that can be changed.
5:13 * If the Preferences button is not visible for an Extension,
5:17 * It implies that there are no preferences for it.
5:21 Click Close to exit the Scrap Book Options dialog box.
5:26 As with most software, add-ons too are updated on a regular basis.
5:31 To update Scrap Book, select it, right-click and click Find Updates.
5:37 If Updates are found, the Update button is displayed.
5:42 Click on it to update the add-on.
5:47 As there are no updates for Scrap Book, the Update button is not displayed.
5:51 Finally, if you do not want to use an extension click the Disable button.
5:58 And to remove an extension from your computer, click Remove.
6:03 We have learnt all about Extensions!
6:06 You can now use Extensions to stream line tasks by adding more functionalities to Firefox.
6:13 * You can use the Get Add-ons option to learn about a number of Add-ons.
6:18 * You can then select and install Add-ons that are most relevant or useful to you.
