Switch to Terminal | To install XAMPP Server, run the installer. This will ask for an option about where to install the package. Choose a new folder which XAMPP will create. e.g. c:\X_Server. Click next to continue the installation process. You will be presented with the option to install Apache, MySQL or FileZilla FTP. Choose "No" for now. The installation is completed. You'll then be asked if you want to start the XAMPP Control Panel. Choose "No". Locate the shortcut XAMPP icon and double click to launch the Control Panel. When the XAMPP Control panel has lanuched, click the "Start" buttons for Apache and MySQL. To create the MySQL database for the moodle site, use phpMyAdmin utility included with XAMPP. Launch any web browser and go the following url http://localhost The XAMPP Default page will be displayed. Choose your preferred language. From the menu on the left, click on "phpMyAdmin". When phpMyAdmin has launched, enter the name of your database in the "Create new database" field. From the "collation" drop down list select "utf8_unicode_ci". Click the "Create" button to create the database. The database would be created with your moodle MySQL database name without files in it. |
Switch to slide no 4 | Download Standard Moodle Package e.g. moodle-weekly-19.zip as a compressed package from http://download.moodle.org/ Extract the contents of the downloaded package to the htdocs folder of the XAMPP server directory e.g. C:\X_Server\htdocs You will now have a directory called "moodle", containing a number of files and folders. Now you will be having moodle pakage path as follows: <installation_drive>:\<installation_path>\htdocs\moodle e.g. C:\X_Server\htdocs\moodle Manually crate the moodledata folder in the XAMPP server folder. e.g. C:\X_Server\moodledata |
Switch to Terminal | Change the permissions of the moodledata folder. Give all permissions to all Users on this folder. Right click on the moodledata folder, select properties and the "Security" tab. Another box will pop up. Select "Users" and give them "Modify and "Write" permissions, along with whatever exsited already. Open new browser window to start installing moodle. Type the url http://localhost/moodle to start the installation. Confirm the locations of moodle installations. And Click next. Enter the database settings. Enter the password for the root user. And Click next. Fill the settings for Admin user profile. Click on Save. The next screen is the Front Page settings page. There are two parts to it. The first part will ask for your Full site name and a short name for the navigation bar. There is also a place for a description. You can change these later. The second part on the bottom instructs Moodle if you will disable the new user self authentication through email process. The default is to disable. This can be changed later in the site administration block. Click on "Save changes" button to go to Moodle sites home page. Now you are ready to Moodle! |
