Inkscape can be used for all kinds of 2D graphic design.

Installing the Software (Slide) | Inkscape can be installed on Ubuntu Linux using Synaptic Package Manager.

Go to Dash home. Type Inkscape. | Go to Dash home. Type Inkscape. |
Double click on Inkscape logo | You can open Inkscape by double-clicking on the logo.
|
Installation for Windows OS | Now we will learn to install Inkscape on Windows. |
Open browser >> www.inkscape.org >> Download | Open your browser. Go to www.inkscape.org.
|
Click on Save >> Open downloads folder | Notice the dialog box appears. Click on Save.
|
Double click on exe file >> Yes | Double click on the exe file to install Inkscape. A dialog box appears. Click on Yes.
|
Click on Yes >> Next >> Next | The default language is English. Click on Yes. Now click on Next.
Again click on Next.
|
Click on Install | Destination folder dialog box appears. By default, Inkscape is saved in Programs files. Now click on Install.
|
Point to the dialog box | Inkscape is installing. This may take few minutes. |
Click on Next >> Finish | Click on Next. Click on Finish to complete the installation.
|
Point to the shortcut icon >> Double click on it | If not, notice there is a shortcut icon created on the desktop. Double click to open it.
|
Click on Start menu >> All programs >> Inkscape | If both these methods to open Inkscape fail, you can click on Start menu, All programs and then on Inkscape.

Switch back to Linux | Now I will switch back to Linux to complete this demonstration.

Point to the canvas | The main drawing area is called canvas. This is where we will create all the graphics. |
Point to Inkscape interface | There are various tool bars and menu bars in Inkscape. We will learn about each one in detail in the series.

Now, let's briefly learn how to use Inkscape. | |
Go to Tool box >> Rectangle tool | We will create a rectangle shape by selecting the rectangle tool. |
Draw a rectangle | To draw the rectangle shape, click on the canvas and drag.
|
Save it as drawing_1.svg.
|
