Themes One of the customisation is Themes. A theme

  • Changes how Firefox looks.
  • Changes the background colors, the look of the buttons and the layout.

OS and versions

  • Firefox version 7.0
  • Ubuntu 10.04
In this tutorial, we are using Firefox version 7.0 on Ubuntu 10.04
Open a Firefox browser. Let us open a Firefox browser.

Let us first learn how to change the Theme of Mozilla Firefox.

Enable the Load images automatically option

First, let’s enable the Load images automatically option, so that we can view the images displayed in the browser.
Switch to Firefox.

Menu Bar >> Click on Edit >> Preferences.

From the Menu bar, click on Edit and then Preferences.
In the Preferences dialog box >> click on Content tab. In the Preferences dialog box, choose the Content tab.
Check the Load images automatically box. Check the Load images automatically box.
Click Close. Click Close.
Click on the URL bar and type

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/themes Press Enter.

Now, click on the URL bar and type

“addons dot mozilla dot org slash firefox slash themes”

Press Enter.

This takes us to the Themes page for Mozilla Firefox Add-ons.

Point to the various themes.

We see a large number of themes here as thumbnails.
Point to the thumbnails of the themes. The thumbnails show you how the themes would appear.
Point to the text Most Popular Themes. Here you can
  • preview the theme,
  • see the categories of themes available and
  • see the ratings given by other users who have used the theme.
Hover the mouse over any 2 themes to show the description display box.


One theme should display Continue to Download and the other theme should display Add to Firefox.

Let us hover our mouse pointer over some themes.<Pause>
Click on Shine Bright Skin. Now, click on the theme Shine Bright Skin.

This is one of many themes available on this page.

The Shine Bright Skin theme page appears.
Click on the theme which displays Continue to Download button. Click on the Continue to Download button.


Point to the page. This takes you to a page which gives additional details about the the theme.
Point to the Accept and Install button but don’t click. Click on the Add to Firefox button to install the theme.
Point to the Add-on downloading progress bar. The Add-on downloading progress bar appears.
Next a Software Installation confirmation message appears. Next a Software Installation confirmation message appears.
Click Install Now. Click Install Now.
Point to the message. A message that the theme will be installed once you restart Firefox is displayed.
Click Restart Now. Click Restart Now.
Mozilla Firefox shuts down.

When it restarts, the new themes is applied.

Go back to Themes page. Let’s go back to our Themes page.
Click on the theme which displays Add to Firefox button. Now let us choose another theme.
Click Add to Firefox button. This theme displays Add to Firefox button.
Point to the Download dialog box. This will download the chosen theme.
In the warning window, drag the cursor over the warning message. Once the download is complete, a warning message window appears.
Click on Install Now button. Click on the Install Now button.
Point to the Restart Now message that appears. You will be prompted to restart the Firefox browser.
Click on Restart now button. Click on Restart now button.

Mozilla Firefox shuts down.

When it restarts, the new themes are applied.

Just point to the various parts of the browser.


So you see, Themes help to improve the look and feel of the browser.

It customizes the Firefox browser to your unique taste.

Click on Tools >> Add-ons. If, for some reason, you wish to go back to the default theme,

then, just click on Tools and Add-ons.

On the left panel >> click on the Appearance tab. On the left panel, click on the Appearance tab.
Point to all the themes which are visible. Here all the themes which have been downloaded are visible.
Point to the Default Theme. See the Default Theme here.
Click on the Enable button. Click on the Enable button.
Click on the Restart now button. Click on the Restart now button.

Mozilla Firefox will shut down and restart.

When it restarts, the default theme is once again visible.

Click on the URL bar and type

Press Enter.

Click on the URL bar and type

Press Enter.

This takes us to the Personas page for Mozilla Firefox Add-ons.

Point to the various personas.

Scroll down a bit.

Click on any Persona.

Click on any Persona of your choice.
Scroll down a bit to show the details. This will take you to a page which gives details of the chosen Persona.
Click on the Add to Firefox button. Click on the Add to Firefox button.
Point to the Notification bar message bar at the top. A Notification bar will appear at the top to alert you that a new theme is installed.
Click on the small “x” mark on the right of the Notification bar. Click on the small “x” mark on the right of the Notification bar.
Point to the upper-most part of the Firefox browser. Firefox installs this Persona automatically.

Adblock Often ads interfere with our internet experience.

Click on Tools >> Add-ons. Click on Tools and then on Add-ons.
In the search tab (which is at the top right corner) >> search for Adblock.

Press Enter.

Scroll down the list of Ad blocking software. A list of Ad blocking software is displayed.
Click on the Install button for Adblock Plus.

This is the first option that is displayed.

Click on the Install button for Adblock Plus.
Point to the downloading bar. Adblock starts downloading

Point to the notification message will be displayed which says, “Adblock will be installed after you restart Firefox”.

That's it! Ad blocker is now installed.

Click on the Restart now link. Click on the Restart now link.
