00:01 | Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on Cataloging. |
00:05 | In this tutorial, we will learn how to do Cataloging in Koha. |
00:12 | To record this tutorial, I am using Ubuntu Linux Operating System 16.04 and |
00:20 | Koha version 16.05. |
00:24 | To follow this tutorial, you should have knowledge of Library Science. |
00:29 | To practice this tutorial, you should have Koha installed on your system. |
00:35 | And, you should also have Admin access in Koha. |
00:40 | If not, please refer to the Koha Spoken Tutorial series on this website. |
00:46 | Let us begin. Let me switch to the Koha interface. |
00:51 | Log in with Library Staff username Samruddhi. |
00:56 | Recall, we had given her Cataloging rights in an earlier tutorial. |
01:02 | Also recall, we had an assignment of adding a Book and a Serial to our Library in one of the earlier tutorials. |
01:12 | We are now inside the Koha interface as Library Staff: Samruddhi. |
01:18 | On the Home page, click on Cataloging. |
01:23 | A new page opens. |
01:26 | To start a new record, click on the tab plus New record. |
01:32 | From the drop-down, I will select BOOKS. |
01:36 | The selection depends upon the ITEM type created in one of the earlier tutorials. |
01:42 | However, you may select as per the Item Type that you had created. |
01:48 | A new page with the title Add MARC record opens up. |
01:53 | Note that it is mandatory to fill the fields marked in red colored asterisk on this page. |
02:01 | Interestingly, Koha auto-generates values for a few mandatory fields. |
02:07 | Among the range of tabs from 0 to 9, we will start with tab zero. |
02:15 | Click inside the field for 000, LEADER. |
02:21 | By default, Koha shows this value. |
02:25 | I will leave the field for 001 CONTROL NUMBER as blank. |
02:32 | When 003 CONTROL NUMBER IDENTIFIER is clicked, Koha auto-generates this value. |
02:41 | Next, click inside the field for 005 DATE AND TIME OF LATEST TRANSACTION. |
02:49 | Koha auto-generates this value for my machine. |
02:54 | You will see a different value on your machine. |
02:58 | I will leave the fields for 006 and 007 as blank. |
03:05 | Now click 008 FIXED-LENGTH DATA ELEMENTS GENERAL INFORMATION. |
03:12 | Koha auto generates this value. |
03:15 | I will skip the rest of the fields for this demo. |
03:19 | You may consider filling these fields as per the requirement of your library. |
03:25 | Next, go to the tab 020 INTERNATIONAL STANDARD BOOK NUMBER. |
03:31 | Locate the two blank boxes adjacent to 020. |
03:36 | Note that if you click on the ? (question mark) then the entire MARC 21 Bibliographic format for the respective tag opens up. |
03:47 | Here, both the indicators are undefined. |
03:51 | So, I will leave the two blank boxes as they are. |
03:55 | Locate the sub-field ‘a’ INTERNATIONAL STANDARD BOOK NUMBER. |
04:01 | Now, enter a 13-digit number here. |
04:05 | You may enter the ISBN number of your book here. |
04:10 | So, what if more than one ISBN number has to be added? |
04:15 | Locate the small button- Repeat this Tag, on the right side of International Standard Book Number. |
04:24 | Then, click on it. |
04:27 | A duplicate field will be created to add the second ISBN number. |
04:33 | Now, enter the 10-digit ISBN number in the duplicate field.
I will enter this. |

04:46 | Next, come to the tab 040 CATALOGING SOURCE. |

05:57 | Let us go back to the Koha interface. |

06:05 | Note that 1 is the first indicator of tag 100 and it represents the Surname for the sub-field ‘a’. |
