| Opening Slide | Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on “Warli art for Textile design” using Inkscape.

| Learning Objectives (Slide) | In this tutorial we will learn to create a

| Open Inkscape | Let us open Inkscape.
First let us design the warli pattern. |
| File>>Orientation to Landscape | Go to File. Click on Document Properties. Change the Orientation to Landscape.
Close the dialog box. |
| Select the Rectangle tool >>Draw a rectangle >> Color it orange | Select the Rectangle tool.

| Click on the Ellipse tool >> Draw a circle
|
Click on the Ellipse tool. Draw a circle outside the canvas.
Click on the Selector tool. |
| Change the width and height to 15 | On the Tool controls bar, change the width and height to 15. Move it inside the canvas as shown |
| Press Ctrl + D | Press Ctrl + D to duplicate the circle. |
| Tool controls bar change the width and height to 7 | On the Tool controls bar change the width and height to 7.
Move the duplicated circle on the bottom left of the original circle. This is the head of the warli art. |
| Object menu >> Symbols >> Symbol set drop down menu >> Flow Chart Shapes | Go to Object menu. Click on Symbols. Click on Symbol set drop down menu.
Select Flow Chart Shapes. |
| Drag the triangle to the canvas >> Change the color to white >> Remove the Stroke | A list of geometrical shapes appears. Click the triangle shape and drag it to the canvas.
Change the color to white. Remove the Stroke. |
| Tool controls bar >>Change the width and height to 20 | On the Tool controls bar, change the width and height to 20. |
| Press Ctrl + D >> Keep the duplicated triangle below the original | PressCtrl + D to duplicate the triangle. Press V to flip it.

| Rectangle tool >> Draw a line | Select the Rectangle tool and draw a line in between the head and the body.
|
| Select Bezier tool | Next let us draw the hands and legs. So, select the Bezier tool.
|
| Draw hands and legs >> Press Ctrl + G and Ctrl + D >> Press V
|
Draw one hand and leg as demonstrated. Change the stroke color to white.
|
| Move the hand and leg | Move the duplicated hand and leg to the other side of the body. |
| Press Ctrl + G | Now select all the elements and press Ctrl + G to them. |
| Point to the warli lady | Now the warli lady art is ready.
Let us now create a round pattern with this warli art. |
| Click once more | Make sure the warli art is selected.

| Move the anchor point | Click on the anchor point and move it down as demonstrated.
|
| Go to Edit>>Clones>>Create Tiled Clones | Go to Edit. Click on Clone and then on Create Tiled Clones.
|
| Symmetry tab >>Simple translation | Under Symmetry tab, the option should be Simple translation.
|
| Shift tab >>Per Column >>change value to -100 | Go to Shift tab. Under Per column, change the X value to -100. |
| Rotation tab >>Change Per row and Per column to 30 | Next go to Rotation tab. Change the Per row and Per column of the angle to 30.
|
| Change columns to 12 | Let the number of rows to 1. Change the number of columns to 12. Click on Create.
|
| Point to the round pattern | Observe the round pattern is created on the canvas. |
| Press Ctrl + G >> Press Ctrl + D | Select round pattern and press Ctrl + G to group them.
|
| Move the duplicated patterns | Move the duplicated patterns next to the original as demonstrated.
|
| Point to the canvas | Next let us create a border.
|
| Object menu >> Symbols >> Drag the triangle shape | Go to Object menu. Click on Symbols.
|
| Change the color to white >> Remove the stroke. | Change the color to white. Remove the stroke. |
| Selector tool>>Change the width and height to 30 | On the Tool controls bar, change the width and height to 30.
|
| Move the triangle to the top >>Change the color to white | Now move the triangle to to top left of the canvas. |
| Point to the triangle | I want to create a row pattern of the triangle. |
| Go to Edit >>Clone>>Create Tiled Clones | To do so, Go to Edit. Click on Clone, then on Create Tiled Clones. Close the dialog box. |
| Change the number of Rows to 1 and columns to 35 >>Create | Change the number of Rows to 1 and number of columns to 35.
Click on Create. |
| Point to the pattern >>Press Ctrl + G | Observe the row pattern is created.

| Press Ctrl + D >>PressV >>Point to
Tool controls bar |
Now press Ctrl + D to duplicate the triangle pattern.
Press V to flip it. You can also use the option on the Tool controls bar. Now move the flipped row pattern little down as shown. |
| Select the Rectangle tool >>Draw a rectangle | Select the Rectangle tool.
Draw a line in between the 2 triangle patterns as demonstrated. |
| Select the 2 triangle patterns and the line >>Press Ctrl + G | Select the 2 triangle patterns and the line.

| Press Ctrl + D >>Move the pattern to the bottom | Press Ctrl + D to duplicate them.
|
| Point to the warli art | Now the warli pattern is ready. We can use this pattern as border in various textiles.
|
| Point to warli art on a kurti | This is how it looks on a kurti. |
| Point to warli art on a pillow cover | We can use this on even as pillow cover design. |
| Point to warli art on a cloth bag. | The warli art looks like this on a cloth bag. |
| Point to the warli art | So, in a similar way you can create various textile patterns.
