00:00 Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on Customizing KTouch.
00:04 In this tutorial, you will learn how to:

Customize Ktouch. Create your own keyboard.

00:13 Here,we are using Ktouch 1.7.1 on Ubuntu Linux 11.10.
00:21 Let’s open KTouch.
00:25 Notice, that the Level displays 3.
00:28 That is because, we were in level 3, when we closed Ktouch.
00:32 We shall now learn to create a new lecture.
00:36 Here we create new set of characters that can be displayed in the Teacher’s Line.
00:42 From the Main menu, select File, and click Edit Lecture.
00:48 The Open Lecture File dialogue box appears.
00:52 Now, select the Create New Lecture option and click OK.
00:57 The KTouch Lecture Editor dialogue box appears.
01:01 In the Title field, select and delete the name A default lecture and type My New Training Lecture.
01:12 The Level Editor displays the Lecture Level.
01:15 Click inside the Level Editor box.
01:18 Now, under Data of Level 1, in the New Characters in this Level field, enter the symbols ampersand, star, and dollar.
01:29 We enter them only once.
01:32 Notice, that these characters are displayed in the first line of the Level Editor box.
01:38 In the Level Data field, first select and delete the text displayed.
01:44 Enter the symbols ampersand, star and dollar 5 times.
01:49 Now under the Level Editor box, click on the Plus sign. What happened?
01:57 A second line comprising alphabets appears in the Level Editor box.
02:02 Let’s select the second line in the Level Editor box.
02:06 The Data of Level field now displays 2.
02:09 This will be the second level in our typing lesson.
02:13 In the New Characters in this Level field, enter fj.
02:20 In the Level Data field, enter fj five times.
02:24 You can create as many levels, as you need, in your typing lesson.
02:29 Similarly you can create as many levels as you want in your typing lesson.
02:35 Click the Save icon.
02:37 The Save Training Lecture – KTouch dialogue box appears.
02:41 In the Name field, enter New Training Lecture.
02:45 Now let us select a format for the file.
02:49 In the Filter drop down list, click the triangle.
02:52 Select KTouch Lecture Files star.ktouch.xml within brackets as the format for the file.
03:03 Browse to the Desktop to save the file there. Click Save.
03:08 The KTouch Lecture Editor dialogue box now displays the name New Training Lecture.
03:15 We have created a new training lecture with two levels!
03:19 Let us close the KTouch Lecture Editor dialogue box.
03:24 Now let us open the lecture we created.
03:28 From the Main menu, select File, and then click Open Lecture.
03:34 The Select Training Lecture File dialogue appears.
03:38 Browse to the Desktop and select New Training Lecture.ktouch.xml.
03:46 Notice that the symbols &, *, and $ are displayed in the Teacher’s line.Let’s start typing.
03:54 We have created our own lecture and used it as a typing lesson!
03:59 To go back to the KTouch typing lessons,from the Main menu, select File, click Open Lecture. Browse the flowing folder path
04:10 Root->usr->share->kde4->apps->Ktouch and select english.ktouch.xml
04:26 We can customize Ktouch to suit our preferences.
04:30 For example, when you type a character that is not displayed in the Teacher’s Line, the Student line turns red.
04:37 You can customize colours for different displays.
04:41 Let us now change the colour settings.
04:44 From the Main menu, select Settings, and click Configure – KTouch.
04:50 The Configure – KTouch dialogue box appears.
04:53 In the Configure – KTouch dialogue box, click Color Settings.
04:58 The Color Settings details appears.
05:02 Check the Use custom colour for typing line box.
05:05 In the Teacher’s line field, click on the color box next to the Text field.
05:12 The Select-Color dialogue box is displayed.
05:15 In the Select-Color dialogue box, click green.Click OK.
05:21 The Configure – KTouch dialogue box appears.Click Apply.Click OK.
05:29 The characters in the Teacher’s Line have changed to green!
05:33 We shall now create our own keyboard.
05:37 To create a new keyboard, we have to use an existing keyboard.
05:42 Make changes to it, and save it in a different name.
05:46 From the Main menu, select File, and click Edit Keyboard Layout.
05:52 The Open Keyboard File dialogue box appears
05:56 In the Open Keyboard File dialogue box, select Open a default keyboard.
06:02 Now, click on button next to this field.
06:06 The list of keyboards is displayed.Select en.keyboard.xml.Click OK.
06:15 The KTouch Keyboard Editor dialogue box appears.
06:19 In the Keyboard Title field, enter Training Keyboard.
06:25 We need to select a language for the keyboard.
06:29 Select en from the Language id dropdown list.
06:35 Let us change the fonts in the existing keyboard.
06:39 Click Set Keyboard Font.
06:42 The Select Font – KTouch dialogue box window appears.
06:48 In the Select Font - KTouch dialogue box, let us select Ubuntu as the Font, Italic as the Font Style, and 11 as the Size.
06:58 Now click OK.
07:00 To save the keyboard, click Save Keyboard As.
07:04 The Save Keyboard – KTouch dialogue box appears.
07:08 Browse the flowing folder path
07:10 Root->usr->share->kde4->apps->Ktouch and select english.ktouch.xml
07:26 In the Name field, enter Practice.keyboard.xml.Click Save.
07:33 The file is saved in the format ‘<name>.keyboard.xml’.Click Close.
07:42 Can you use the newly keyboard immediately? No
07:46 You will have to mail it to the kde-edu mailing id. It will then be included in the next version of KTouch.

08:01 In this tutorial we learnt to create a lecture for training and modify colour settings.
08:08 We also learnt to open an existing keyboard layout, modify it, and create our own keyboard.
