00:09 How to take care of a newborn baby
00:12 Common problems faced by a new mother and

00:15 How to tackle those problems
00:18 Dr. Anjali enters Anita’s house and expresses her happiness on her newborn child.

00:25 Dr. Anjali notices Anita is holding her baby in a wrong way.
00:30 She tells Anita to be careful while carrying the baby.

00.35 Dr. Anjali shows her how to support the head of the baby and cradle it

00.41 when holding the baby upright or
00.43 when laying it down.
00.45 The doctor advices Anita to never handle the baby roughly.
00.51 Anita tells the doctor that she is new to all this.
00.55 And asks for her advice on taking better care of her newborn baby.

01.02 Dr Anjali happily agrees.
01:04 She points out that first and foremost important is -

01:09 to wash your hands with soap or charcoal-ash
01:13 before handling the newborn babies.
01:15 Young babies have not yet built up a strong immune system.

01.19 So, they are susceptible to infections.

01.24 Anita asks the doctor, “How often should I feed my baby?”.
01.28 The doctor tells Anita that a newborn baby needs to be fed every 2 to 3 hours.

01:37 She explains that breastfeeding is most important for the health of the baby -

01.43 Development of the baby’s immune system.

01.46 Also, if you're breastfeeding, give your baby the chance to nurse about 10-15 minutes at each breast.

01.56 Then, Anita asks the doctor about formula-feeding the baby.

02.00 The lady doctor states that
02:02 if you're formula-feeding your baby like for eg:milk-substitutes,

02:08 then it will most likely take about 60-90 gm at each feeding.
02:14 Anita then asks the doctor about when and how can she give the baby a bath.
02.21 The doctor explains that during the first few weeks, the baby is very delicate.
02.28 She says that we should give the baby only sponge bath, until
02.33 (a) the umbilical cord falls off
02.37 (b) the circumcision heals
02.39 (c) the navel heals completely

02.43 The doctor explains that after the initial period, 2-3 baths per week, with a mild soap, are sufficient for the baby.
02.53 This can continue during the first year of the baby.

02.56 Frequent bathing may be drying to the skin.

03.01 Dr Anjali then points out that the baby has some rashes.
03.06 Anita gets scared.
03.08 She asks the doctor how to take care of such rashes.
03.13 The doctor explains that the rashes are because of the wet diaper.
03.19 She further says that you should change your baby's cloth diaper frequently, and as soon as possible after bowel movements.
03.29 After cleaning the area with mild soap and water, wipe it dry.
03.34 Then apply some baby powder over it to keep it moisture-free.

03.39 The doctor further explains that if you using cloth diapers, wash them in hot water with a disinfectant like dettol.
03.49 Its also a good idea to let the baby go un-diapered for part of the day.

03.55 Anita thanks Dr Anjali for her advice and says she will keep them in mind.
