To record this tutorial, I am using,
  • Windows 11
  • FreeCAD version 0.21.2 and
  • AutoCad version 25.0.58.0

The file used in this tutorial is provided in the Code Files link on this tutorial page.

Please download and extract the file.

Make a copy and then use it for practising.

Open the FreeCAD interface.

Only Narration.

I have opened the FreeCAD interface.

First, let us open the FreeCAD file that we have created.

Go to the toolbar, click on the File menu and select Open.

An Open Document window appears.

Select FreeCAD-to-AutoCAD file and click on Open.

FreeCAD to AutoCAD file opens.

Go to the toolbar, click on File menu and select Open.

An Open Document window appears.

Select FreeCAD to AutoCAD file and click on Open button.

FreeCAD to AutoCAD file opens.

Go to left panel and double click on Sketch.

Point the cursor toward the dimension of the sketch.

Click on Close.

Go to the Combo View and double click on Sketch.

All the dimensions of the Sketch appear.

Again go to the Combo View and click Close button.

Click on the File menu and select Export. Click on the File menu and Select Export.
Show the Export File dialog box.

Type FreeCAD to AutoCAD-Body001Sketch

Click on the dropdown and show different file formats

Export File dialog box opens.

Save the file as FreeCAD to AutoCAD-Body001Sketch.

Click on Files of Type dropdown.

Here you can see different File formats.

Select DXF 2D. From the dropdown, select Autodesk DXF (2D) file format.
Select a location to save the file and click Save. Select a location to save the file.

I am choosing Desktop.

Now click on the Save button.

Open AutoCAD tab I have already opened the AutoCAD interface.
Go to File, click Open and select the Drawing option.

Select File dialog box opens.

Select FreeCAD to AutoCAD-Body001Sketch file and click Open.

Go to File, click Open and select the Drawing option.

Select File dialog box opens.

Select FreeCAD to AutoCAD-Body001Sketch file.

Select the dxf format if not already selected and click Open.

Point the cursor to the sketch in the AutoCAD. The FreeCAD sketch is now imported to 'AutoCAD.
Scroll down to zoom out.

Type ZOOM in the command bar, select ALL and press Enter.

To see the sketch clearly, scroll down and zoom out to see the entire figure or,

Type ZOOM in the command bar, select ALL and press Enter.

Point the cursor to the sketch. The sketch is now visible.

Let’s verify the dimensions.

Open FreeCAD.

From the Combo View, double click on Sketch.

Point the cursor to the dimensions of the sketch.

Open FreeCAD.

From the Combo View, double click on the Sketch.

You can see the dimensions of the sketch.

Go to the AutoCAD tab, and Select Dimensions and linear from the toolbar.

Select a line in the sketch from one point to another, drag it, then release.

Zoom in to see the dimension.

Change the tab to FreeCAD and show the dimension.

Go to the AutoCAD tab.

Select Dimensions and linear from the toolbar.

Select a line in the sketch from one point to another, drag it, then release.

Zoom in to see the dimensions.

We can see that the dimension is same as in Freecad which is 20.

Only Narration. This confirms that the FreeCAD sketch is accurately imported to AutoCAD.
