Time Narration
00:00 Hello. Welcome to this spoken tutorial on Material required to construct a biogas plant.
00:09 In this tutorial, we will learn about:
  • the various materials required to construct a biogas plant
00:18 * Area required to construct the plant
00:22 * The site
  • No. of days required for construction and
  • the best time to construct the plant.
00:32 Let us begin. The materials required to construct a biogas plant can be procured from any hardware & cement shop.
00:44 The following materials are required to construct the plant:
00:49 cement 14 packs,
00:51 gravel – half brass,
00:55 sand - 1 brass,
00:57 3 bundles of chicken mesh- 30 feet each,
01:02 weld mesh sheet of size 3 feet x 4 feet with 1 inch x 1 inch of the hole size,
01:11 12 feet of 6 mm steel rods- 35kgs,
01:18 1 kg of steel wire to be cut into 7-8 inches per piece,
01:27 bricks 3, 2kg of white cement,
01:31 1 kg of lime powder,
01:34 jute gunny bags- 25 approximately,
01:38 plastic sheet- 13 feet x 10 feet and
01:43 7 bamboo sticks of approximate size - 3.5 feet
01:49 Liquid waterproofing material - 1 litre
01:53 wooden square trowel with a concave bent from inside.
01:58 These are especially used for smoothening the cement plaster on the dome of the biogas plant.
02:06 metal square trowel,
02:08 shovel,
02:09 small trowel, hook,
02:12 trough with a capacity of 10 kgs.
02:16 scissor to cut the chicken mesh,
02:18 one measuring tape,
02:20 1kg of newspaper,
02:23 scale with two hooves at the two ends and
02:28 an iron rod with hollow ends at either sides.
02:33 We will now look at other items required to construct the plant such as tubes, pipes and valves.
02:45 We require main gas control valve of size 1 inch, metal pipe to be connected from the center of the dome, 30 cms x 1 inch of diameter.
03:01 This will be the main gas pipe.
03:04 Gas conveyor pipe of 1/2 inch diameter:
03:08 the length of this pipe will depend upon the distance between biogas plant and the kitchen.
03:17 Inlet pipe connected from mixing tank to digester tank should be 6 inches diameter and approximately 5 feet of length.
03:30 Another outlet pipe of 6 inches diameter to be connected from slurry tank to the slurry collection pit.
03:39 If the outlet pipe is not required, alternately construct a drain between slurry tank and the slurry collection pit as shown.
03:52 The depth of this slurry collection pit can be between 4 to 6 feet.
04:00 The slurry collected in this pit can be manually poured in the fields.
04:06 We also require a safety-valve of 1 inch.
04:11 Approximately, 6 metres of rubber hose pipe of ½ inch diameter.
04:19 This rubber hose pipe will be used to convey the gas from the safety valve to the kitchen stove.
04:27 2 Vohj clips are required to secure the pipe.
04:32 A few other items like synthetic resin adhesive 250 ml and teflon tape.
04:42 Always use good quality cement, gravel and sand.
04:48 These are really important for the durability of the biogas plant.
04:54 Let’s now talk about the area, site, No. of days required for construction and best time to construct the plant.
05:06 To construct the biogas plant, we need approximately 12 feet X 8 feet of land, near the house.
05:16 The site should be such that construction cost is minimized and it receives ample sunlight to maintain the right temperature inside the biogas plant.
05:31 The selected site should also ensure easy operation and maintenance of mixing tank, digester tank, main gas control valve to switch off gas inflow and the slurry tank.
05:49 The site should also be located near the source of animal dung and the toilet.
05:57 This will help to easily operate the plant and avoid wastage of raw materials.
06:06 The total no. of days required to complete the civil work of a biogas plant are 3 to 5 days.
06:17 The best time of the year to construct the biogas plant is between November and June.
06:27 Constructing biogas plants during the rainy season is best avoided, as it becomes messy.
06:36 This brings us to the end of this tutorial on the material required to construct a biogas plant.
06:45 The construction part of the biogas plant will be explained in next tutorial under the same series.
06:55 Let’s Summarize.
06:57 In this tutorial, we learnt:
  • The material required to construct a biogas plant
07:06 * Area required to construct the plant
07:09 * Preferred site and
07:12 * No. of days required along with the best time to construct the plant.
