Opening Slide | Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on “Warli art for Textile design” using Inkscape. |
Learning Objectives (Slide) | In this tutorial we will learn to create a
|
System requirement (Slide) | To record this tutorial, I am using
|
Open Inkscape | Let us open Inkscape.
First let us design the warli pattern. |
File>>Orientation to Landscape |
|
Select the Rectangle tool >>Draw a rectangle >> Color it orange | Select the Rectangle tool.
|
Click on the Ellipse tool >> Draw a circle >> Change its color to yellow >> Click on Selector tool |
|
Change the width and height to 15 >> Move it inside the canvas >> change its color to white. | On the Tool controls bar, change the width and height to 15.
|
Press Ctrl + D | Press Ctrl + D to duplicate the circle. |
Tool controls bar change the width and height to 7 | On the Tool controls bar change the width and height to 7.
|
Object menu >> Symbols >> Symbol set drop down menu >> Flow Chart Shapes | Next,
|
Drag the triangle to the canvas >> Change the color to white >> Remove the Stroke | A list of geometrical shapes appears.
|
Tool controls bar >>Change the width and height to 20 | On the Tool controls bar, change the width and height to 20. |
Press Ctrl + D >> Press V >> Keep the duplicated flipped triangle exactly below the original | PressCtrl + D to duplicate the triangle. Press V to flip it.
|
Rectangle tool >> Draw a line | Select the Rectangle tool and draw a line in between the head and the body.
|
Select Bezier tool | Next let us draw the hands and legs.
|
Draw hands and legs >> Press Ctrl + G and Ctrl + D >> Press H
|
Draw one hand and leg as demonstrated. Change the stroke color to white.
|
Move the hand and leg | Move the duplicated hand and leg to the other side of the body. |
Press Ctrl + G | Now select all the elements and press Ctrl + G to them all together. |
Point to the warli figure | Now the warli figure is ready.
Let us now create a round pattern with this warli figure.
|
Make a copy of the warli figure | Let me make a copy of this figure and keep it to one side, before proceeding further. |
Select the warli figure >> Click once more | Make sure the warli figure is selected.
|
Move the anchor point | Click on the anchor point and move it down as demonstrated. |
Go to Edit>>Clones>>Create Tiled Clones | Now go to Edit.
|
Symmetry tab >>Simple translation | In the dialog box, under Symmetry tab, the option in the drop-down should be Simple translation. |
Shift tab >>Per Column >>change value to -100 | Then go to Shift tab.
Under Per column option, change the X value to -100. |
Rotation tab >>Change Per row and Per column to 30 | Next go to Rotation tab.
|
Change rows to 1 and columns to 12 >> click on Create button >> close the dialog box. | Let the number of rows be 1. Change the number of columns to 12.
Then click on Create button and close the dialog box. |
Point to the round pattern | Observe the round pattern that is created on the canvas. |
Press Ctrl + G >> Press Ctrl + D | Select the round pattern and press Ctrl + G to group them all together.
|
Move the duplicated patterns | Move the duplicated patterns next to the original as demonstrated here.
|
Show added art work | Now, we have a lovely warli art on our canvas. |
Group and move to left side of the canvas. | Let's group all of these together and move it to one side, like this. |
Select the single warli figure. | Let's try some other options.
So, first select the single warli figure that we had kept aside earlier. |
Bring single warli to centre of canvas on the RHS | Let's bring it down here towards the centre of the canvas. |
Click on Object >> Raise to top | Now click on Object menu and then on Raise to top option. |
Create Spirals tool >> draw a large spiral | Next, using the Create Spirals tool, draw a fairly large spiral on the canvas, as shown. |
Place the single warli at the centre of the spiral. | Select the single warli figure and place it at the centre of the spiral, like this. |
Select spiral >> Select single warli figure. | Then, select the spiral and the single warli figure. |
Click on Extensions >> choose Generate from path >> select Scatter | Click on Extensions menu and choose Generate from path option.
In the sub-menu that appears, select Scatter. |
Check the Follow path orientation" checkbox | A dialog box opens on the screen.
Here, check the Follow path orientation" checkbox. |
Space between copies = 5 | In Space between copies, we will say 5. |
Point to Original pattern will be >> click on Moved
Point to Duplicate the pattern before deformation >> check |
Ensure that -
|
Click on Apply button | Click on Apply button and close the dialog box. |
Move spiral warli pattern aside >> select the exposed spiral path >> delete it >> move the spiral warli pattern back onto the canvas. | Let's move it aside a little to expose the spiral.
Now, select the spiral path and delete it. Move the spiral warli pattern back onto the canvas. |
Point to the spiral warli pattern. | We have a beautiful spiral warli pattern on our canvas.
|
Point to the canvas | Next, let us learn how to create a border. |
Object menu >> Symbols >> Drag the triangle shape | Go to Object menu and click on Symbols.
|
Change the color to white >> Remove the stroke. | Change the color of the triangle to white and remove the Stroke. |
Selector tool>>Change the width and height to 30 | On the Tool controls bar, change the width and height to 30.
|
Move the triangle to the top >>Change the color to white | Now move the triangle to to top left of the canvas. |
Point to the triangle | I want to create a row pattern using the triangle. |
Go to Edit >>Clone>>Create Tiled Clones | To do so, go to Edit menu.
Click on Clone, then on Create Tiled Clones. |
Shift tab >> change Per Column to 10 | All the previous settings are visible here.
In the Shift tab, change Per Column parameter to 10. |
Rotation tab >> Change Per Row to 0 and Per column to 0 | In the Rotation tab, change the Angle parameter of Per Row and Per Column to 0. |
Change Row to 1 and Column to 35 >> click on Create. | Lastly, change Row to 1 and Column to 32, as shown here.
Then click on Create button. |
Point to the pattern >>Press Ctrl + G | Observe the row pattern that is created on the canvas.
|
Press Ctrl + D >>PressV >>Point to
Tool controls bar |
Now press Ctrl + D to duplicate the triangle pattern.
Press V to flip it. You can also use the option on the Tool controls bar to flip. Now, move the flipped row pattern a little down as shown. |
Select the Rectangle tool >>Draw a rectangle | Then select the Rectangle tool.
Draw a line in between the 2 triangle patterns as demonstrated. |
Select the 2 triangle patterns and the line >>Press Ctrl + G | Select the 2 triangle patterns and the line.
|
Press Ctrl + D >>Move the pattern to the bottom | Press Ctrl + D to duplicate them.
|
