| 00.34 | Let's begin with the Launcher. |
| 00.36 | Launcher is the default left-side panel in the Ubuntu Linux desktop, which has some default applications. |
| 00.44 | The Launcher makes it easy to access frequently used applications. |
| 00.49 | So, we can launch a program by clicking on its "desktop shortcut" on the Launcher. |
| 00.56 | By default, the Launcher has some applications. |
| 01.00 | Let us learn to customize the Launcher based on our requirements. |
| 01.06 | For my regular work, I need applications like Terminal, LibreOffice Writer, Gedit and so on. |
| 01.15 | Let's add these applications on the Launcher. |
| 01.19 | Before doing that, I will remove some of the applications which I don't want. |
| 01.25 | Say, I wish to remove the VLC application. |
| 01.30 | So, right-click on the VLC application icon and select Unlock from Launcher. |
| 01.37 | You can see that the VLC application icon has been removed from the Launcher. |
| 01.43 | In the same way, we can remove all the shortcuts which we don't use frequently. |
| 01.49 | I have removed some applications from the Launcher on my desktop, as you can see here. |
| 01.55 | Now, I will add the Terminal shortcut to the Launcher. |
| 02.00 | Click on Dash Home. |
| 02.02 | In the search bar, type “terminal”. |
| 02.05 | Click on the Terminal icon to open it. |
| 02.09 | You can see the Terminal icon on the Launcher. |
| 02.13 | To fix the Terminal icon on the Launcher, first right-click on it. |
| 02.18 | Then click on Lock to Launcher. |
| 02.21 | Another way to fix application shortcuts on the Launcher is by dragging and dropping. I will demonstrate this now. |
| 02.30 | Open Dash Home and in the search bar, type libreOffice. |
| 02.37 | Drag the LibreOffice icon onto the Launcher. |
| 02.42 | As we do so, the help text may appear saying “Drop to Add application”. Don’t worry if no help text appears. |
| 02.51 | Now, drop the LibreOffice icon on the Launcher. |
| 02.55 | You can see that the shortcut is now added to the Launcher. |
| 03.00 | This is how we can add shortcuts on the Launcher. |
| 03.04 | The next important feature in Ubuntu Linux OS is multiple desktop or Workspace Switcher. |
| 03.12 | Sometimes we may be working on multiple applications. |
| 03.17 | And we may find it difficult to switch from one application to another. |
| 03.22 | To make it more convenient, we can use Workspace Switcher. |
| 03.27 | Let’s come back to the Launcher. |
| 03.30 | On the Launcher,locate Workspace Switcher icon. Click on it. |
| 03.36 | It shows 4 quadrants with 4 Desktops. |
| 03.40 | By default, the top-left Desktop is selected. |
| 03.44 | That is the Desktop in which we are currently working. |
| 03.48 | Now, let’s select the second Desktop by clicking on it. |
| 03.53 | I will open the Terminal here by clicking on the icon in the Launcher. |
| 03.59 | Now, click on the Workspace Switcher again. |
| 04.02 | You can see the Terminal on the second Workspace Switcher and our Desktop on the first. |
| 04.09 | In this way, you can work on multiple Desktops. |
| 04.12 | Let us come back to the first Desktop. |
| 04.15 | Trash is another important icon on the Launcher. |
| 04.19 | Trash contains all the deleted files and folders. |
| 04.23 | In case we delete a file accidentally, we can restore it from Trash. |
| 04.28 | To demonstrate this, I will delete DIW file, which is on my Desktop. |
| 04.33 | Right-click on the file and click on the option Move to Trash. |
| 04.38 | To restore it, just click on the Trash icon in the Launcher. |
| 04.43 | The Trash folder opens. |
| 04.46 | Select the file, right-click on it and click on Restore. |
| 04.50 | Close the Trash window and come back to the desktop. |
| 04.54 | We can see the file which we deleted earlier is now restored. |
| 04.59 | To delete a file permanently from your system, first select it and then press Shift+Delete. |
| 05.07 | A dialog box saying Are you sure want to permanently delete DIW will appear. Click on Delete. |
| 05.15 | Click on the Trash icon once again. |
| 05.18 | We can't find the file in the Trash folder, as it is permanently deleted from our system. |
| 05.24 | Now, we'll see some applications available at the top right corner of the Desktop. |
| 05.31 | First one is Internet connectivity. |
| 05.34 | Connection is established if you are connected to any Lan or Wifi network. |
| 05.39 | You can see these over here. |
| 05.42 | You can select the network which you have access to. |
| 05.46 | To Enable/ Disable the network, check/uncheck the Enable Networking option. |
| 05.52 | We can also edit the networks using Edit Connections option. |
| 05.57 | Next option is Sound. Click on it. |
| 06.00 | You can see a slider here. This helps us to increase or decrease the audio level, as per our choice. |
| 06.07 | We can further adjust the sound level of our system by clicking on Sound Settings. |
| 06.14 | Explore the settings in this window on your own. |
| 06.17 | Next icon is Time & Date. |
| 06.20 | If we click on this icon, the calendar opens up. We can see the current date, month and year here. |
| 06.29 | Arrow buttons allow us to move to other months and years, as per our choice. |
| 06.35 | We can edit date and time by clicking on Time & Date Settings. Explore this option further on your own. |
| 06.44 | Next, click on the wheel icon. |
| 06.47 | Here we can see some shortcut options along with Log Out and Shut Down options. |
| 06.53 | We can also see all the User accounts available in our system. |
| 06.59 | We can switch to whichever user account we wish to, by clicking on that particular user. |
| 07.05 | Let us summarise. |
