Now, let’s download and open Scribus in Ubuntu Linux 18.04 OS. |
Point to the browser. | The appimage file for Linux system does not require installation. |
Click on the file scribus-1.5.6.1-linux-x86_64.AppImage . | Linux users can click on the appimage file to download it. |
Select Save file option and click on Ok. | The download starts in a short while.
If a save dialogue box opens, Select the Save file option. Click on Ok to download the file. |
Press Ctrl+Alt+T . | Allow the file download to complete and open a terminal.
The file is saved in the Downloads folder for me. |
Type, cd Downloads/ and press Enter. | Change directory to downloads folder as seen here. |
Type, chmod u+x scribus-1.5.6.1-linux-x86_64.AppImage and press Enter. | Change the file mode to an executable file using the chmod command as seen here. |
Type, ./scribus-1.5.6.1-linux-x86_64.AppImage and press Enter. | Now enter the command as seen to start the program. |

Let us set the parameters for a new document from here. |
Select Single Page for Document Layout. | Select Single Page for Document Layout. |

Notice the mouse crosshair displays the exact position for X and Y. |

Notice a palm sign, which will allow the text frame to be moved. |

Click inside the textbox and move it in the page and show resize. | Now, the active text box boundary turns black.

Cursor next to the round handles to resize the box. | Notice the round handles (or nodes) on the corner and edges of the text box.
They are used to resize the size of the text box. |
Click, hold and move to resize the box. | Place the cursor on a handle (or node) and see a two-direction arrow.
Click, hold the left mouse button and drag to resize the box. I will make the text box a little more wider and narrower. |
Hover cursor on the rulers on the sides. | Notice the rulers along the length and edge of the document.
You may use this to guide placement and frame size. |
Click on View, Measurement and hover next to Show rulers. | If you do not see the rulers, click on View and click on Show rulers.
Horizontal and vertical guides can be drawn from the rulers. |
Place the cursor on the white space in the vertical ruler.

Click, hold and drag it to the canvas to add a guide. |

Click on the left side ruler, hold and drag the guide to the canvas. |
Similarly, vertical guides can be added from the ruler on the left side.

Click on View, Grids and Guide, Show Grid. | Grids can be added through View and Show Grid in the menu. |
Press Ctrl+ scroll wheel to adjust zoom level. | To adjust the zoom level press the control key and use the mouse scroll wheel. |
Click on View and show the zoom options. | You may also use the options under the View menu. |
Demonstrate to adjust zoom at the bottom menu. | They are also present in the menu bar at the bottom. |
Click on File, Save. | Choose File, Save to save the work.
The default extension for the document is .sla. |
Type postcard.sla for filename and choose Desktop folder. | I will give file name, postcard.sla and save in my Desktop folder. |
